Cavendish acquires Keystone lettings in Connah's Quay

Leader Livea day ago
Cavendish, which has offices in Chester, Ruthin and Mold, has purchased the lettings arm of Connah's Quay-based Keystone Property and Mortgage Centre.
The deal enables Cavendish to continue the expansion of the property management side of the company and allows Keystone to focus on their fast-growing estate agency and mortgage broking service across North Wales, Chester and Wirral.
David Adams, Managing Director of Cavendish, said: 'From our early discussions, it was clear that the values and ethos of our two businesses were very closely aligned.
'We look forward to welcoming Keystone's landlord clients into the Cavendish family and building on the high level of customer service they have come to expect from the Keystone team.
'The acquisition is an important next step in our own strategic growth plans and we look forward to adding further appropriate acquisitions to our business.'
Ben Roberts, managing director of Keystone Property & Mortgage Centre, said: 'This has been a carefully considered decision, one that has been six months in the making. During that time, we received interest and offers from a number of companies — some even offering more than we ultimately accepted.
'However, our focus was never solely financial. Our priority has always been our landlord clients and ensuring continuity of care, service, and trust.
'After a series of highly productive meetings and discussions, we were delighted to agree a deal with Cavendish, a company that shares our values and approach to customer service.

India's Lenskart acquires 80 percent stake in Spanish brand Meller for over 40 million euros

Lenskart, the innovative Indian eyewear company, has acquired an 80 percent stake in Meller, a digitally native sunglasses brand based in Barcelona. The deal, valued at over 40 million euros, marks Lenskart's first strategic move into the European market. The acquisition was announced in a filing with the Securities and Exchange Board of India. According to The Times of India, the transaction involves payments of 406 million rupees (4.5 million euros), distributed between Meller's investors and its three founders—Sergi Benet, Borja Nadal, and Marco Grandi. Meller, founded in 2014, has built a successful digital-first model, with 96 percent of its sales occurring online. The brand has cultivated a strong following among younger consumers, amassing over 650,000 followers on Instagram and generating more than 25 million daily impressions. In 2024, Meller reported revenues of 28.3 million euros and an EBITDA of 5.8 million euros. Notably, Meller's production is already based in India, creating a strong operational synergy with its new parent company. Founded in 2010, Lenskart has become a global leader in the optical sector. With more than 2,500 physical stores and an annual distribution of over 30 million pairs of glasses, the company has developed a scalable omnichannel model that combines contemporary design with competitive pricing and in-house production. This acquisition was facilitated through Lenskart's Singapore subsidiary and is part of a broader expansion plan outside of Asia, supported by major investors like Softbank and Abu Dhabi Investment Authority. The move comes as Lenskart prepares for a potential initial public offering (IPO), with a valuation that could reportedly exceed 5 billion dollars. In summary Barcelona-based company Meller, specialising in sunglasses, has been 80 percent acquired by the Indian group Lenskart for over 40 million euros. Meller, founded in 2014, stands out for its 100 percent digital model, online sales and a strong international presence, generating revenues of 28.3 million euros in 2024. Councillors told not to object to solar site size of 146 football fields

The 50MW battery storage system and 60MW solar energy park is the latest renewable energy development proposed for the Coupar Angus area. Perth and Kinross Council's (PKC) Planning and Placemaking Committee will meet to consider the application, as a statutory consultee, on Wednesday, August 6. Sirius EcoDev (Stirling) Ltd has submitted an application to the Scottish Government's Energy Consents Unit (ECU) to develop an energy plant capable of producing, exporting, importing and storing 110MW of power on 105 hectares of [[Perth]]shire farmland. READ MORE: Scottish pupils' exam results to be delayed due to Storm Floris, SQA says Planning applications for energy plant proposals of 50MW or more have to be considered by the ECU, and the local council is asked whether or not it objects to the application as a statutory consultee. The Perthshire project is 600 metres north-west of Caddam Cottage, Keithick – between Burrelton and Coupar Angus – and has been called Stirling Battery and Solar Energy Park. In its supporting statement, Herefordshire-based Sirius EcoDev (Stirling) described the development as being of 'significant importance in safeguarding the supply to the region and reducing the reliance on carbon heavy alternatives'. There are four proposed access points to the site: one off the A923 and three off an unnamed road which dissects the southern part of the site. The latest proposed energy development for the Coupar Angus area is close to the consented Keithick Solar Energy Park and would use 11.5MW of solar area from the consented site, plus 48.5MW of solar land from the west and north. Stirling Battery and Solar Energy Park would provide enough energy for around 37,520 homes which Sirius EcoDev (Stirling) has said would save 37,173 metric tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO2) every year and 1,486,910 metric tonnes of CO2 over its 40-year lifespan. On July 24 Stop Oversized Solar launched a campaign claiming UK 'farmland the size of Derbyshire is now under threat of solar power development'. The group has raised concern UK solar sites in the pipeline would cover around 655,000 acres – up to five per cent of crop land. Last month, Perth and Kinross opposition councillors responded to residents' concerns about arable land being turned over into an industrial site. On July 9, PKC's Planning and Placemaking Committee councillors voted – against officers' recommendation – to refuse planning permission for a 22MW solar farm on prime agricultural land near Coupar Angus. At the July 9 meeting, objector Dave Ritchie told councillors: 'There's only eight per cent of Scotland that's prime agricultural land, so there must be plenty more room on other land to put these solar farms on. We've got brownfield sites, rooftops and plenty of unproductive sites.' READ MORE: Which MPs have received the most donations and from whom? See the full list Scotland's National Planning Framework 4 permits development on prime agricultural land for 'essential infrastructure' and if 'there is a specific locational need and no other suitable site'. Council officers have recommended Perth and Kinross Council does not object to this latest proposal but have suggested requesting several planning conditions be imposed. Suggested conditions include the provision of passing places, visibility splays, access to a public footpath and protecting the soil. Councillors will meet to discuss the application on Wednesday, August 6.

Family-owned Scottish baker brand popularity surges

Glasgow-based bakery McGhee's, a fourth-generation family-owned business, noted this surge in brand popularity comes as it is expanding beyond its west of Scotland heartland with the aim of becoming 'a household name across the country'. Its second place is among Scottish fast-moving consumer goods brands, ranked according to their popularity in Scotland. The report reveals the ranking of shoppers' most chosen food and drink brands over the 52 weeks to October 2024, with dairy Graham's, teacake and caramel wafer producer Tunnock's, and pie maker Bells placed third, fourth and fifth respectively. In its report, Worldpanel by Numerator says: 'McGhee's is gaining ground through coverage across breakfast, lunch and snack moments. Like others in the bakery space, it faces pressure from evolving eating habits. "But its tone and outreach - especially on social media - suggest a push to connect with younger consumers. If the brand can continue to win new buyers while retaining its core, it has a good shot at sustainable growth in a segment that is otherwise softening.' Worldpanel by Numerator adds: 'From a portfolio perspective, McGhee's has also seen notable frequency gains across its top-selling SKUs (stock-keeping units), including rising repeat rates for staples like soft white floury rolls and pineapple tarts. An uplift in online channel sales also hints at improved digital shelf presence and broader accessibility beyond the traditional bedrock of supermarkets.' Meanwhile, Worldpanel by Numerator says of Irn-Bru: 'Irn Bru remains Scotland's most chosen brand. That result isn't surprising for this iconic drinks brand, but it is instructive. 'The brand continues to find its place in the middle of the day - lunch and afternoon snacks - even as pressure builds at evening meals. It's growing across a wider range of age groups, which suggests a deliberate shift in how it connects with shoppers.' Read more The consumer research ranks McGhee's as 13th most chosen among all fast-moving consumer goods brands in Scotland. Among bakery brands, McGhee's is third most chosen in Scotland, behind industry giants Warburtons and Hovis. Warburtons is the highest-ranking fast-moving consumer goods brand in Scotland, followed by Cadburys and then Walkers, with Irn-Bru 11th in this table and Graham's 14th. McGhee's noted: 'With a brand penetration of 50.8%, shoppers are buying McGhee's products an average of nearly 11 times per year.' It added: 'The Worldpanel by Numerator report highlighted strong sales of soft white rolls and potato scones among the products driving that growth.' McGhee's revealed that, in the last six months, its pre-packed roll sales have grown 42% on last year, declaring the 'launch of a new sourdough roll for more health-conscious consumers has also contributed to that success'. It added: 'In recent years continued investment in plant, equipment, and site expansion has enabled McGhee's to significantly increase production capacity." McGhee's observed this had helped sales of its 'signature rolls' to triple in volume. It added: 'McGhee's supplies a significant share of Scotland's bread rolls - around half are sold through supermarket retailers and independent convenience stores. Alongside its famous rolls, customer favourites such as empire biscuits, caramel shortcake, [and] assorted tarts, as well as pineapple and raspberry tarts, also continue to see strong demand. Read more 'The figures arrive as McGhee's embarks on an ambitious brand refresh ahead of the bakery's 90th anniversary next year, drawing on its heritage, reliability, and pride in feeding Scotland for generations.' The business said it hoped this would 'drive further growth, which would be reflected in next year's report'. The metric used in the study, consumer reach points, takes into account a brand's penetration and frequency, as well as the number of households in the country. Lesley Ann Gray, strategic insight director at Worldpanel by Numerator, said: 'For brands, the chances of finding a place in household cupboards and fridges around the world are as uncertain as a coin toss, with inflation and geopolitical pressures heavily influencing how people shop and which products they choose. 'That does not mean, however, that growth is purely down to chance. Even so, brands should anticipate that next year the odds of growth will decline from an even split, 50:50, to something more like 45:55, which means they will need to work even harder to achieve success.' She added: 'In Scotland, where overall consumption has remained flat, those [brand] choices tell us even more. There's no tide lifting all boats. To hold position, let alone grow, a brand must find relevance in how people eat, shop, and live. It's no longer enough to be visible. You have to be useful, and consistently so.' Aisling McGhee, commercial director at McGhee's, said: 'We are incredibly proud of our Scottish roots and the role we have played in helping to feed Scotland for four generations. Being included among the most popular Scottish brands - and among the top 20 brands across all categories - is an incredible achievement and testament to the strategy we have put in place in recent years. 'We are extremely proud of the team who have played such an important role in making this happen, and we have more to come - both in Scotland and beyond - built on the significant investments we have made in the business and the fresh new brand we are rolling out ahead of our anniversary in 2026.'
