Netflix fans rush to binge Italian crime thriller with John Wick star
The recently added show, directed by Carmine Elia, stars Teresa Saponangelo and Claudia Gerini, the latter of whom is known for playing Gianna D'Antonio in John Wick: Chapter 2.
'The suspicious death of her son pushes a former secret agent [the titular Sara played by Teresa] back into action, investigating a series of crimes that grow increasingly sinister,' the synopsis of the series, based on the crime novel series by Maurizio de Giovanni, reads.
Sara's last job dubbed her 'the invisible woman' for her immaculate skill set and ability to lip-read and she brings her all to this latest mystery – to uncover what happened to her son.
The description concludes: 'While discovering details of her son's life that she knew almost nothing about, Sara sinks into an investigation that brings her back to many ghosts of her past.

'Keeping both of these things together is very difficult, and certainly very dangerous. Paradoxically however, this is how the invisible woman comes back to life, doing what she does best.'
In the show Claudia's character, Teresa, teams up with Sara to help with her investigation and they are also joined by police officer Pardo (Flavio Furno) and photographer Viola (Chiara Celotto).
Its premise has clearly hooked in fans with the show easily climbing the charts to land at number seven in TV shows on Netflix.
One Reddit user, Roshankr1994, called it a 'gritty thriller and an intriguing watch.'
'The ending of 'Sara – Woman in the Shadows' leaves viewers on the edge of their seats. The twist is both shocking and brilliantly executed, tying up loose ends while leaving room for reflection on Sara's journey. A must-watch for crime drama enthusiasts!' TheAnchorAgent wrote on X.
Ready Steady Cut added: 'This is six dense episodes of grounded and compelling procedural spycraft enhanced by an unconventional lead and a willingness to meet its underlying themes and ideas halfway.'
Netflix has a strong record of platforming compelling foreign-language thrillers, including the Swedish show The Are Murders, South African drama Unseen and Korean series Karma – to name a few.
Gerini has enjoyed a lucrative career with over 100 roles across TV and film and in 2023, reflected on the ongoing legacy of her John Wick character.
'That was a very interesting shoot. We shot in Rome and I really like Chad, and of course Keanu Reeves. More Trending
'I took that role with an audition as a self tape and I was so proud of myself because when you do a self tape you never know how it's going to be. And the director said, 'oh my God, you really impressed me.
'I really like this character, this strong woman, yet fragile. You always have to play against the main characteristic of the role. Sometimes that's what I do.
'I like to play, yes, a strong woman, but with the courage to take her own life. Go out on her terms. To not be killed by John Wick,' she told The HollywoodNews at the time.

A post was made on the r/Emmerdale Reddit page, one fan said: "I just find Dr Crowley such a weird addition to the show and Joe's storyline. "Something is telling me that either he isn't really a doctor, or he has ties to the Tates. "Why would he help Joe and go to so much length and secrecy to do so? How comes only Joe has seen him, and no one's seen him sneaking into home farm?" They also questioned why the relationship between Joe and Crowley appeared to be "a bit closer than doctor and patient". Another said: "He's probably just some dodgy private doctor willing to go to lengths as Joe is willing to pay." However, others questioned whether he was a real doctor at all. Surge in serial killer baby names as dark 2025 parenting trend emerges
According to new data from BabyCentre, parents to be are putting aside the traditional baby name books in favour of a much darker source of inspiration - true crime Throughout history, parents -to-be have found inspiration for baby names from a variety of sources, from great kings and queens to beloved relatives. Now, mums and dads have found inspo in a bloody yet undeniably popular genre - true crime. To quote William Shakespeare, "What's in a name? That which we call a rose, By any other name would smell as sweet." It's unlikely, however, that The Bard was at that time considering that people would one day be naming their daughters after the notorious serial killer, Rose West. And Rose isn't the only name creeping into the charts. We humans have arguably long had a taste for the morbid and macabre, and a host of gripping crime documentaries and shocking podcasts are now accessible at the click of a button. And it would seem that some baby name choices are settling into our subconscious, alongside plenty of nightmares. While announcing its Top 100 Baby Names of 2025, BabyCentre UK noted a new trend towards crime-related picks, which may well come as a surprise. Intriguingly, as explained by experts, you may well have picked up a liking for a serial killer's name without even realising it, with chart-dominating listens making the monikers impossible to forget. BabyCentre UK's Baby Naming Expert, and author, SJ Strum, revealed: 'These names aren't being chosen because of crime. More often, parents are unconsciously absorbing popular culture, and these names creep into our minds via gripping TV, podcasts and viral content. It's a fascinating lens on how culture shapes language, and by extension, baby names.' True Crime-inspired names featured in BabyCentre's top 100 baby names for 2025 are as follows: Anna – The 'Fake Heiress' Anna Delvey Arthur – Zodiac Killer suspect, Arthur Lee Allen, Bella – Inspired by wellness scammer, Belle Gibson, Erin – Erin Patterson, dubbed The Mushroom Killer Freddie & Rose – The story of serial killer couple Fred and Rose West, featured recently in a Netflix doc Joseph – A nod to 'Joe Exotic', Tiger King Luca – From the shocking documentary Don't F** with Cats Teddy – A soft spin on serial killer Ted Bundy Ruby – From viral doc 'Devil in the Family', Ruby Franke Ronnie & Reggie – As in the notorious London gangsters, the Kray twins Meanwhile, in quite literally much lighter news, celestial baby girl names are also on the rise, with names such as Luna, Nova, Aurora and Maryam lighting up the charts amid fascination with all things lunar cycles and astrology.
