VATICAN: From July 2 to 4 , London will host the 94th General Assembly of the European Broadcasting Union (EBU), the foremost association of public service media organisations in Europe. The event will take place at the headquarters of the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) and will gather leading figures from the international media landscape. Vatican Radio will be represented by Alessandro Gisotti, Deputy Editorial Director of Vatican Media.
Assembly on EBU's 75th Anniversary
This year's General Assembly is particularly significant, marking the 75th anniversary of the EBU's founding. Established as a platform for public service broadcasters, the Union now includes 112 organisations from more than 50 countries, spanning not only Europe but also the Mediterranean basin, North Africa, and the Middle East. Founding members such as the BBC, RAI, France Télévisions, and Vatican Radio continue to play a vital role in the organisation. Vatican Radio's presence in London, through Mr. Gisotti, reaffirms its longstanding commitment to international media dialogue.
During the three-day gathering, journalists and media professionals will reflect on some of the most pressing challenges facing contemporary communication. Topics will include the impact of artificial intelligence, the defence of press freedom, combating disinformation, and the future of streaming technologies.

Umno postpones general assembly to November to focus on Sabah election

Umno Secretary-General Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki, in a statement, said the decision was made during the Umno Supreme Council (MT) meeting held at Menara Dato' Onn, World Trade Centre (WTC) Kuala Lumpur on Monday (June 30) night. The meeting chaired by Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and was also attended by vice presidents Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail and Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani, along with other supreme council members. In March, the Umno supreme council had initially set this year's General Assembly for Aug 20 to 23. The five-year term of the Sabah State Legislative Assembly is scheduled to expire automatically on Nov 11 this year, paving the way for the 17th Sabah state election. Additionally, Asyraf Wajdi said Umno will conduct a mid-term review of the effectiveness and performance of the Malaysian unity government, including the achievements of the Umno leadership within the administration, and in government-linked and affiliated agencies. Meanwhile, he said Umno sees no justification for parties in the unity government to absorb members from other component parties, in order to prevent misunderstandings and disharmony within the government. He added that the meeting also decided that the supreme council may consider any appeal submitted by members subjected to disciplinary action, in line with Clause 20.12 of the Umno Constitution. UMNO general assembly postponed to November due to Sabah polls
KUALA LUMPUR: The 2025 UMNO General Assembly, initially set for August 20–23, has been postponed to November 26–29 to allow the party to focus on the upcoming Sabah State Election. The decision was made during the UMNO Supreme Council meeting held at Menara Dato' Onn, World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur. UMNO Secretary-General Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki confirmed the postponement, stating that the move was necessary to ensure proper preparations for the Sabah polls. The Sabah State Legislative Assembly's term will automatically expire on November 11, triggering the 17th state election. The meeting, chaired by UMNO President Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, was attended by Vice Presidents Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail and Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani, along with other Supreme Council members. In addition to the assembly's postponement, the Supreme Council agreed to conduct a mid-term review of the Malaysian Unity Government's performance. This includes assessing UMNO's contributions within the administration and government-linked agencies. Asyraf Wajdi also clarified that UMNO discourages member absorption from other Unity Government component parties to maintain harmony. The meeting further decided that the Supreme Council may review disciplinary appeals from members under Clause 20.12 of the UMNO Constitution. The party also extended gratitude to the Terengganu and Perak UMNO Liaison Bodies for aiding victims of the June 10 Gerik bus crash, which killed 15 Sultan Idris Education University students.
