Lucknow: For candidates preparing for Lucknow University's undergraduate entrance examination, the varsity admission team advises that thorough board exam preparation is a reliable indicator of success.
The LU UG entrance test will be held between July 5 and July 12.
"Candidates who want to crack the LU entrance examination need not look for some special study material. All they need to do is prepare their classes 11 and 12 curriculum well. NCERT books and having clarity of concepts taught in 10+2 is the best way to crack the entrance," said LU admission team officials.
LU's entrance test will be based on a multiple-choice questions pattern in which 100 objective questions will be asked.
Each question will be worth 2 marks. There is no negative marking, and a candidate will be given 90 minutes to answer the questions.
LU spokesperson Durgesh Srivastava said if a candidate is giving an entrance test for BA, then the entrance test will have questions from Hindi, English, geography, history, civics, psychology and economics of classes XI and XII.
Similarly, for BCom and BCom (Hons) tests, questions will be from mental ability, commerce, accounting, commercial maths, economics and computer.

Agri varsity's makhana discovery secures patent

1 2 Bhagalpur: In a major scientific breakthrough, Bihar Agricultural University (BAU), Bhagalpur, has secured a patent from the govt of India's patent office for the novel identification of a bioactive compound, N-(2-iodophenyl) methanesulfonamide, in Euryale ferox, commonly known as makhana or fox nut. The discovery marks the first time this compound, previously known only as a synthetic pharmacological agent, has been found in a natural source. "It is a major milestone for agricultural innovation and public health and a game-changer for farmers and scientists alike," said BAU vice-chancellor D R Singh. The compound was identified in the perisperm (nutritive tissue) of makhana during extensive research at BAU's NABL-accredited lab. The team included director (research) A K Singh, scientists V Shajeeda Banu, Pritam Ganguly and Anil Kumar, led by VC Singh. The patent was granted on July 2, following BAU's application in December 2024. "Until now, this compound was synthetically produced using complex reactions. Its natural presence in makhana opens new avenues in nutraceuticals and pharmaceuticals," said Singh. The compound has a molecular formula of C₇H₈INO₂S and is being studied for its anti-microbial and anti-cancer potential. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Secure Your Child's Future with Strong English Fluency Planet Spark Learn More Undo "This discovery holds great promise for makhana growers in regions like Mithilanchal and Seemanchal. Healthy lifestyle more beneficial than anti-diabetes drug in long run, study finds

Adopting a healthier lifestyle is more effective than using the anti-diabetes drug metformin, with the benefits persisting over 20 years later, according to a study. The US Diabetes Prevention Program , launched in 1996, enrolled 3,234 patients with prediabetes from 30 institutions across 22 states. The study aimed to compare the benefits of metformin and a lifestyle modification that included exercise and a healthy diet. Researchers from The University of New Mexico , US, found that making lifestyle changes lowered the development of diabetes by 24 per cent, while the anti-diabetes drug lowered it by 17 per cent. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Victoria Principal Is Almost 75, See Her Now Reportingly Undo The findings are published in The Lancet Diabetes and Endocrinology journal . The team noted that differences between the two approaches -- taking metformin and adopting a healthy lifestyle -- were seen in the first few years since the study's start and were durable. Live Events After the first three years, lifestyle interventions, such as weight loss and increased physical activity, led to a 58 per cent reduction in the onset of type 2 diabetes, compared to a 31 per cent reduction with metformin. "The data suggests that those people who didn't get diabetes also didn't get diabetes after 22 years," author Vallabh Raj Shah, professor emeritus at The University of New Mexico's School of Medicine, said. Participants in the lifestyle modification group experienced an additional 3.5 years without diabetes, while those in the metformin group gained an extra 2.5 years. "Within three years (since the study started), they had to stop the study because lifestyle was better than metformin. That means lifestyle, which everybody is banking on, is more effective -- that is the news," Shah added. The authors wrote, "During follow-up, compared with placebo, diabetes incidence rate was reduced in the (intensive lifestyle intervention) group (by 24 per cent), and in the original metformin group (by 17 per cent), with corresponding increases in median diabetes-free survival of 3.5 years and 2.5 years."
