'This is the same China that changed the status quo in Ladakh five years ago. Yet, on 19 June 2020, Prime Minister Modi publicly gave them a clean chit,' Ramesh said in a post on X.
He further said: 'The Modi Govt must agree at least now so that a consensus can be built for a collective response to the geopolitical and economic challenges that China poses to India - directly and through Pakistan."
Ramesh also said that Congress had been asking for a detailed debate on India-China relations for five years, but the government had refused.
With the monsoon session of parliament set to begin on 21 July, the party plans to raise this issue again.
The Congress leader pointed out that China recently held a trilateral meeting with Pakistan and Bangladesh in Kunming, and India's trade deficit with China remained at record levels. He added that the border agreement reached with China had not restored the earlier status quo.
Deputy Chief of Army Staff (Capability development and sustenance), Lieutenant General Rahul R Singh on Friday said that China was providing live inputs to Pakistan during India's 'Operation Sindoor'.

India, Trinidad and Tobago to boost ties in health, digitalisation, agriculture
New Delhi: India and Trinidad and Tobago agreed to ramp up collaboration in healthcare, digital infrastructure and agriculture as Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Trnidadian counterpart Kamla Persad-Bissessar focused on development cooperation as an important pillar in bilateral relations. Trinidad and Tobago was the second destination in Modi's five-nation tour, and people of Indian-origin make up more than 40% of the country's population of 1.36 million. During their talks late on Friday, the two leaders called for greater cooperation on contemporary challenges such as climate change, disaster management and cyber-security. Modi appreciated Trinidad and Tobago's strong support and solidarity in the wake of the Pahalgam terror attack. The two leaders agreed to work together for solidarity among the countries of the Global South and to strengthen India-CARICOM partnership, the external affairs ministry said. Modi and Bissessar also decided to build an inclusive and forward-looking partnership in healthcare, information and communication technology, trade, agriculture, legal affairs, skill development and sports, according to a joint statement. 'The two leaders acknowledged the common threat posed by terrorism to peace and security. They reiterated their strong condemnation of and resolute opposition to terrorism. They declared that there could be no justification for terrorism, including cross-border terrorism,' the joint statement said. Both sides emphasised the need for reforms in the UN and Trinidad and Tobago said it will support India's bid for permanent membership of an expanded Security Council. It was also agreed that India will support Trinidad and Tobago's candidature for a non-permanent seat in Security Council for 2027-28, while Trinidad and Tobago will support India's candidature for 2028-29. The two countries signed six agreements, including a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on Indian pharmacopoeia that will allow closer collaboration in pharmaceuticals and provide improved access for Indian products to markets in Trinidad and Tobago. An agreement on Indian grant assistance for quick impact projects will strengthen the development cooperation partnership. The two sides also signed an agreement for cultural exchanges for 2025-2028, and three MoUs for cooperation in sports, diplomatic training, and re-establishment of two Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) chairs in Hindi and Indian studies at the University of West Indies. As part of efforts to expand cooperation in the digital domain, the two sides will explore collaboration in implementing Indian digital public infrastructure solutions, including DigiLocker. Trinidad and Tobago, the first Caribbean country to adopt India's Unified Payments Interface (UPI) digital payments platform, sought support in digitization of the state land registration system. The Indian side announced a gift of 2,000 laptops to support Trinidad and Tobago's flagship educational programme, a gift of agro-machinery worth $1 million to bolster food security, and the donation of 20 haemodialysis units and two sea ambulances. Modi also announced a prosthetic limb camp for 800 individuals will be organised in Trinidad and Tobago. Earlier, while addressing the Parliament of Trinidad and Tobago on Friday, Modi said India will work with its partners to give the Global South its 'rightful seat at the right table', create a fairer world order and ensure reforms of global bodies such as the UN. Modi, the first Indian premier to address a joint assembly of the Parliament of the Caribbean nation, described terrorism as the enemy of humanity and said India and Trinidad and Tobago must be united to deny terrorism any space. 'It is time for us to work together, to give the Global South its rightful seat at the right table. To ensure climate justice, so that the burden does not fall on those who have contributed the least to the climate crisis. We consider Trinidad and Tobago an important partner in this endeavour,' Modi said. Hopes about the realisation of long-pending reforms of the UN have 'turned into disappointment' and the 'voice of the developing world remains on the margins', he said. 'India has always tried to bridge this gap,' he added. India brought the concerns of the Global South to the centre of global decision-making during its presidency of the G20 and provided vaccines and medicines to more than 150 countries during the Covid-19 pandemic. India's development partnerships too are 'demand-driven, respectful and without conditions', Modi said, in an apparent attempt to differentiate India's role from that of China's Belt and Road Initiative. 'Our vision for such inclusive growth does not stop at our borders. We see our development also as a responsibility towards others. And our priority will always be the Global South,' Modi said. India is deepening its relations with Trinidad and Tobago and will encourage businesses to invest more in the Caribbean nation. 'We are also keen to collaborate on other digital innovations. The court stated that Rule 8 (II) Column (5) of Schedule-III, Serial No. 1, of the Chhattisgarh Public Health Engineering Department (Non-Gazetted) (Recruitment and Conditions of Service) Rules, 2016, is "illegal and without jurisdiction." Chief Justice Ramesh Sinha and Justice Bibhu Datta Guru delivered a common order on two writ petitions, filed by over two dozen individuals. The petitioners, holding graduate degrees in engineering, sought to participate in the direct recruitment examination for Sub-Engineer (Civil/Mechanical/Electrical) posts. The examination was scheduled for 27 April 2025, following an advertisement issued on 7 March 2025. The petitioners argued that the 2016 rules, which prescribed a three-year diploma as the only educational qualification for direct recruitment to Sub-Engineer posts, were discriminatory. They pointed out that for promotional quotas (5 per cent), both diploma and degree holders were eligible. Techno Mag Learn More Undo The petitioners' counsels Ajay Shrivastava, G P Mathur and Pratibha Sahu contended that an engineering degree is a higher qualification than a diploma, and thus, degree holders should not be barred from applying. They cited the Supreme Court's judgement in the Puneet Sharma & Others v. Himachal Pradesh State Electricity Board Limited & Another case, which directed states to allow degree holders to participate in recruitment processes. The State, represented by the Deputy Advocate General, argued that the 2016 rules maintained the same qualification criteria as the earlier 1979 and 2012 rules. The State also submitted that the 5% promotion quota for in-service candidates, which includes diploma and degree holders, was a separate provision for existing employees who may have acquired higher qualifications during their service. The Chhattisgarh Professional Examination Board (CGPEB), the recruiting agency, stated that it acts based on existing rules and departmental requisitions. The intervenors supported the State's contentions. The High Court observed that excluding degree holders, who possess superior knowledge and technical skills, was unreasonable and counterproductive to recruiting competent individuals. The court noted that this restriction undermined principles of fairness and equal opportunity, violating Articles 14 and 16 of the Constitution of India. 'The exclusion of degree holders, who possess the necessary knowledge and technical skills, from eligibility for the post is arbitrary, unreasonable, and counterproductive to the goal of recruiting competent individuals. It violates the principles of fairness, equal opportunity, and the fundamental rights under Articles 14, 16, and 21 of the Constitution. Notably, other state departments like Public Works and CSPDCL allow both Diploma and Degree holders for similar posts, making the exclusion in the Public Health and Engineering Department discriminatory,' the court stated. An interim order was issued on 25 March 2025, allowing degree holders to provisionally apply for the posts, subject to the final outcome of the petitions. The court clarified that this order would apply to all similarly situated candidates. Following the declaration of the rule as "ultra vires," the High Court has directed the respondent authorities to proceed with the selection process, ensuring that engineering degree holders are allowed to participate, provided they meet other prescribed criteria in the advertisement.

ADR moves Supreme Court against ECI's voter list revision in Bihar
New Delhi: In a development that could significantly impact the upcoming high-stakes Bihar Assembly elections, the Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) filed a petition in the Supreme Court on Saturday challenging the Election Commission of India's (ECI) decision to conduct a Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral rolls in the poll-bound state. The petition alleges that the ECI's move is arbitrary and could potentially disenfranchise millions of voters. ADR, a non-partisan electoral watchdog, has urged the apex court to intervene, arguing that such an extensive revision exercise so close to the polls undermines the integrity of the democratic process. The organisation has sought the court's direction to halt the ongoing revision process until a thorough and fair verification mechanism is ensured. The controversy stems from the ECI's June 24 directive announcing the SIR exercise in Bihar. The revision, which includes the verification of existing voter data and new registrations, is being carried out just months before the state is scheduled to go to polls. This has raised concerns among several political parties, especially those in the Opposition. Hours after the poll-panel gave its direction on June 24, the Opposition including Lalu Yadav's RJD, Congress, AIMIM, CPI, CPM and other political parties opposed this move and attacked the poll body for acting on the directions of the ruling BJP. Earlier, this week, nearly a dozen political parties of INDIA bloc leaders went to meet the poll panel officials including the Chief Election Commissioner to raise their objections against the SIR, although, the poll-panel through its Press statements has defended the move. 'Commission stated that SIR is being conducted in accordance with provisions of Article 326, RP Act 1950 and instructions issued on June 2024, 2025. Party representatives raised concerns related to SIR. Each concern which was raised by any member of the political party was fully addressed by Commission', the poll panel said on X after their meeting with INDIA bloc leaders earlier this week. Similarly, the Congress' senior leader Pawan Khera while addressing a Press conference this week did not rule out the option of approaching the judiciary against the poll panel's directive. With the filing of this petition by ADR, it seems that the issue is likely to intensify in the coming days.
