Over 2,300 men fined for entering women-only coaches in Delhi Metro in 2024-25
The highest number of violations were reported in May (443), followed by April (419) and September (397). Interestingly, only one offender was penalised in December 2024.
In cases where violators are unable to pay the fine immediately, Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) or DMRC flying squad personnel issue a warning and allow them to leave. 'These drives are conducted in close coordination with CISF teams stationed across the metro network,' a DMRC official said.
To tackle the issue, DMRC has launched multiple awareness campaigns. These include regular announcements on platforms and inside trains, prominent signage indicating the location of women-only coaches, and social media posts on DMRC's official handles.
Additionally, flying squads have been deployed to monitor such violations and take necessary action. 'Our aim is to ensure a safer and more respectful environment for female passengers. These checks and sensitisation drives will continue,' the official added.
The Delhi Metro, with its 10 colour-coded lines and 257 stations, covers a network of nearly 395 km. Each train typically consists of six or eight coaches, with one reserved exclusively for women. Recently, a video went viral showing male passengers occupying the ladies' coach and refusing to leave despite repeated requests by female commuters, highlighting the ongoing challenge despite existing regulations.

New Delhi, Jul 27 (PTI) Two people were arrested for allegedly stealing gold biscuits weighing over 141 grams from a running Delhi Metro train, an official said on Sunday. Delhi Police recovered Rs 3 lakh in suspected sale proceeds from the two men. On July 11, a commuter, Amit Santra, reported the theft of gold biscuits from his bag while he was travelling between Bahadurgarh and Shadipur stations. 'A case was registered at Raja Garden Metro police station and further investigation was taken up," said the officer. The team analysed CCTV footage from metro stations and coaches to track the suspect. Following sustained surveillance, accused Sonu Chand (29), a resident of Dabri and a habitual offender, was apprehended on July 23. During questioning, he allegedly admitted to the crime and revealed that he had sold the stolen gold. A raid at his residence led to the recovery of Rs 3 lakh in cash, suspected to be the proceeds from the sale of the stolen item. Man held with firearm and bullets at Nagpur airport
In a major security lapse at the Nagpur international airport, a man allegedly managed to carry a country-made pistol and bullets in his luggage, leading to his arrest, police said on Saturday (July 26, 2025). The accused, identified as Anil Shrikrishna Porad, is the president of the Tribal Cell of a political party. He is a resident of Yavatmal in eastern Maharashtra, a police official said. Mr. Porad reached the Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar International Airport to board a flight to Delhi around 9 pm on Friday. 'During the scanning of his luggage, CISF personnel spotted a suspicious object. When they opened the bag, they found a desi katta (country-made firearm) and two live bullets inside', the official said. Airport authorities immediately alerted the Sonegaon police station, and a team of police personnel was dispatched to the scene. 'During questioning by police, Poram failed to explain why he was carrying a firearm. He was taken to the police station and arrested under provisions of the Arms Act,' the police official added. Further investigation is underway to understand Poram's motive and how he managed to bring the firearm to the airport despite strict security rules, he said.

One of the runners, an Instagram user named Yang, posted a video of the encounter, questioning the legality of running on public roads. 'Is running illegal in India?' Yang asked in his caption. 'Me along with friends were running in Electronics City Phase 1 and this is what happened.' The footage shows two uniformed policemen approaching the runners, asking them to disperse. In one clip, a policeman is seen confronting a woman and demanding she leave the area. 'Why are you still here when I told you to leave?' the officer is heard saying. While initial reactions on social media suggested that the incident may have stemmed from a language barrier, Yang later clarified that the issue was far more serious. 'This is not about language,' he said in a follow-up post. 'It's about how the cop behaved. He said things like 'I will beat you' and 'I will kill you'—that's not acceptable.' Yang also acknowledged a CISF personnel who stepped in to defuse the situation and help the runners. Several demanded accountability, urging the runners to file formal complaints under criminal intimidation laws if the officers were not part of the official police force. However, the episode also drew criticism from some commuters, who alleged that the runners were blocking roads and causing inconvenience. One commenter wrote, 'If they're private guards and this happens again, file an FIR and press charges under BNS 141 for criminal intimidation.'
