Workington Reds fixtures for new 2025/26 season revealed
The Reds now know their calendar for the new Northern Premier League Premier Division campaign.
Competitive action in Darren Edmondson's second spell in charge gets under way with the visit of Whitby, who finished level on points with 12th-placed Workington last season but four places below the west Cumbrians on goal difference.
The Seasiders, managed by the former Carlisle United defender Gary Liddle, will visit Workington on Saturday, August 9.
Workington's first away game comes four days later with a Tuesday night trip to Stockton Town, with their first Saturday away trip the following weekend at Hednesford Town.
August continues with home games against Warrington Rylands and Ashton United on Bank Holiday weekend before the month ends with an FA Cup first qualifying round tie.
Reds' festive period fixtures include an away trip on Boxing Day to newly-promoted Cleethorpes Town – entailing a 414-mile round trip for Edmondson's side and their longest trip of the campaign.
On New Year's Day the Reds host Lancaster City.
Easter weekend sees an Easter Saturday trip to Warrington Rylands and an Easter Monday home clash with Cleethorpes, while the Reds' final game is at home to Leek Town on April 25.
Reds say the latter will 'probably' be played at Derwent Park, amid plans for the demolition of part of Borough Park and the creation of the new Cumberland Sports Village.

Turner returns to Revolution on loan from Lyon after transfer to French team from Nottingham Forest
FOXBOROUGH, Mass. (AP) — Matt Turner is returning to his Major League Soccer roots as he looks to get back into position to compete for the starting job as U.S. national team's goalkeeper. Turner transferred from England's Nottingham Forest to France's Lyon on Friday, then was loaned to the New England Revolution through June 30, 2026, in a deal that gives the Revolution an option to acquire his rights. Turner will be a designated player on the Revolution's roster for the remainder of the 2025 season. He'll be eligible for targeted allocation money in 2026. Turner left the Revolution for Arsenal ahead of the 2022-23 season but played in just five Europa League and two FA Cup matches and transferred to Forest in August 2023 . He lost the No. 1 spot there after allowing soft goals against Tottenham, Manchester United and Arsenal and was loaned for 2024-25 to Crystal Palace, where he played in just one League Cup game and three FA Cup matches — none after March 1. Turner was displaced by New York City's Matt Freese as the U.S. goalkeeper for this year's CONCACAF Gold Cup. The 31-year-old Turner became the No. 1 U.S. goalkeeper ahead of the 2022 World Cup and had started 14 consecutive competitive matches for the U.S. and 23 of 24 before the Gold Cup. Turner will now look to get back to that level in New England, where he made his pro debut in 2016. He last played for New England in 2022, posting a 53.3% save percentage over five starts. ___ AP soccer:

Liverpool are closing in on a move for Alexander Isak. The Reds made their first bid for the Swedish international on Friday afternoon. Not only that but he wants to join Liverpool. This is why Isak did not travel to Asia for Newcastle's pre-season tour and had instead trained in Spain, away from the club's facilities. It's very clear that the Swede wants to join Liverpool and the Reds would like to sign him. This has been reiterated by a Swedish football expert, who exclusively told Anfield Watch he believes Isak will end up at Anfield. 🔴 Shop the LFC 2025/26 adidas away range from 9am TODAY Speaking exclusively on Anfield Watch's YouTube channel, Journalist and Swedish football expert Maxi Angelo explained that he believes the Reds are closing in on securing a transfer for Isak, and that he is confident that the Swede will end-up signing for the club: "I do believe so [that Isak will end-up at Liverpool]," Angelo said. "I think from what I've been able to read and hear it, it feels like Alexander Isak as far as the relationship between Isak and Newcastle, it's at least reaching a point of no return. I think it says quite a lot that he's not even training at the Newcastle facilities. "I don't see why he wouldn't do that unless something's off. Even though he's not in Asia for the pre-season tour, he could still train at the Newcastle facilities to rehabilitate from an injury. But he's not and I think that's quite telling. "As far as a percentage goes, I would say maybe 60% or 70% [how likely it is at this stage]. That's just my gut feeling. I think it's getting more and more advanced each day."
