London, UK, July 2025 – Canon Inc. announced that two of its RF lenses for 3D VR video — the RF5.2mm F2.8 L DUAL FISHEYE (released in December 2021) and the RF-S3.9mm F3.5 STM DUAL FISHEYE (released in June 2024) — will offer compatibility with 'Apple Projected Media Profile' (hereafter 'APMP'), a QuickTime movie profile that will be supported by the Apple Vision Pro spatial computer developed by Apple Inc. (hereafter 'Apple')*. Canon has also announced that it will make its RF-S7.8mm F4 STM DUAL lens (released in November 2024) compatible with 'spatial photo,' and that it will help to further expand the 3D VR market through collaboration with Apple going forward.
Canon launched the EOS VR System for capturing VR video in 2021, and since then has met the needs for VR video production in diverse fields including entertainment, tourism, and education. In June 2024, the company announced the RF-S7.8mm F4 STM DUAL, a lens capable of recording 'spatial video,' which is a type of 3D footage with a sense of depth, for the Apple Vision Pro. Through these developments, Canon has been helping to expand the range of expression available in 3D VR.
At the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC), hosted by Apple on June 9, 2025, Apple announced visionOS 26, the newest OS for the Apple Vision Pro. In conjunction with this announcement, two of Canon's RF lenses for 3D VR video, RF5.2mm F2.8 L DUAL FISHEYE and RF-S3.9mm F3.5 STM DUAL FISHEYE, will offer native playback of 'APMP,' which will be supported by visionOS 26, scheduled to be released in the latter half of 2025. Specifically, footage shot with these lenses and compatible cameras** can be converted to 'APMP' using the EOS VR Utility *** app, making it even easier for users to enjoy a high-quality, immersive experience with the Apple Vision Pro.
By updating EOS VR Utility, the RF-S7.8 mm F4 STM DUAL will also be able to handle not only 'spatial video' but also 'spatial photo,' which is a 3D image that allows users to enjoy a sense of depth as a still image, when combined with Canon's mirrorless camera models EOS R7 (released in June 2022) and EOS R50 V (released in May 2025). Additionally, in mid-July 2025, the EOS R50 (released in March 2023) will also be made compatible with the EOS VR SYSTEM through a firmware update, thereby enabling both 'spatial video' and 'spatial photo.'
Going forward, Canon will further strengthen the EOS VR SYSTEM in collaboration with Apple to meet the creative needs of pro users who strive to produce stunning immersive video as they explore new ways of storytelling.

Apple Owes $110 Mln in Wireless Tech Patent Case

Israa Farhan A US federal court in Delaware has ruled that tech giant Apple must pay $110 million in damages to Spanish technology firm TOT for infringing on a patented wireless communication technology. The ruling, reported by Reuters, follows a legal battle initiated by TOT in 2021. The court found that Apple had unlawfully used TOT's proprietary technology in developing wireless receiver components used in iPhones, violating one of the company's patents. TOT's founder, Álvaro López-Medrano, claimed to be the original inventor of a power-saving technology for mobile communications. He discovered Apple's unlicensed use of the innovation in the hardware of its iPhones and filed the lawsuit in response. He also revealed that similar patent lawsuits have been filed against LG and Samsung, which are still under judicial review. The US Attorney's office charged Apple with infringing two TOT patents, but the jury concluded that the infringement applied to one patent. Despite the court's ruling, Apple denies any wrongdoing, stating that its devices do not use any protected technology from TOT. The company, led by CEO Tim Cook, has announced plans to appeal the decision. read more Gold prices rise, 21 Karat at EGP 3685 NATO's Role in Israeli-Palestinian Conflict US Expresses 'Strong Opposition' to New Turkish Military Operation in Syria Shoukry Meets Director-General of FAO Lavrov: confrontation bet. nuclear powers must be avoided News Iran Summons French Ambassador over Foreign Minister Remarks News Aboul Gheit Condemns Israeli Escalation in West Bank News Greek PM: Athens Plays Key Role in Improving Energy Security in Region News One Person Injured in Explosion at Ukrainian Embassy in Madrid News Israeli-Linked Hadassah Clinic in Moscow Treats Wounded Iranian IRGC Fighters News China Launches Largest Ever Aircraft Carrier Sports Former Al Zamalek Player Ibrahim Shika Passes away after Long Battle with Cancer Videos & Features Tragedy Overshadows MC Alger Championship Celebration: One Fan Dead, 11 Injured After Stadium Fall Lifestyle Get to Know 2025 Eid Al Adha Prayer Times in Egypt Business Fear & Greed Index Plummets to Lowest Level Ever Recorded amid Global Trade War News Flights suspended at Port Sudan Airport after Drone Attacks News "Tensions Escalate: Iran Probes Allegations of Indian Tech Collaboration with Israeli Intelligence" Videos & Features Video: Trending Lifestyle TikToker Valeria Márquez Shot Dead during Live Stream News Shell Unveils Cost-Cutting, LNG Growth Plan

Facing EU deadline, Apple announces App Store changes - Tech

Apple announced changes to its App Store payment rules in Europe as it hit a Thursday deadline to address accusations of breaking EU digital competition rules, or face steep new daily fines. The European Commission in April slapped Apple with a fine of 500 million euros ($586 million) after concluding it prevented developers from steering customers outside its App Store to access cheaper deals in violation of the bloc's rules. The EU warned Apple it had 60 days, until Thursday, to make changes to comply with the rules or face additional "periodic penalty payments", which it believed could be more than 50 million euros daily. Apple has changed the rules on the App Store effective Thursday, allowing developers to offer different payment options directly to consumers within their apps, arguing that the changes address the EU's concerns. Apple has paid the 500-million-euro fine but still plans to appeal the penalty on July 7, and it hit out on Thursday at the extent of the changes sought by Brussels. "The European Commission is requiring Apple to make a series of additional changes to the App Store. We disagree with this outcome and plan to appeal," Apple said. EU spokesman Thomas Regnier said the commission took note of Apple's announcement "and will now assess these new business terms" to see if they are compliant with the bloc's Digital Markets Act (DMA). "As part of this assessment the commission considers it particularly important to obtain the views of market operators and interested third parties before deciding on next steps," Regnier added. Apple has frequently hit out at the DMA antitrust rules, complaining it has no choice but to make the changes under threat of large fines. The EU reinforced its legal weaponry in recent years with major twin laws, the Digital Services Act and the DMA, which have provoked the ire of President Donald Trump. The US leader has slammed the EU's digital laws and taxes as "non-tariff barriers" to trade and many tech CEOs have aligned with his administration. The EU and the United States are currently locked in negotiations to avoid Trump's sweeping tariffs on European goods but Brussels has insisted that the digital rules are a red line for the 27-country bloc.
