Apple Owes $110 Mln in Wireless Tech Patent Case
A US federal court in Delaware has ruled that tech giant Apple must pay $110 million in damages to Spanish technology firm TOT for infringing on a patented wireless communication technology.
The ruling, reported by Reuters, follows a legal battle initiated by TOT in 2021. The court found that Apple had unlawfully used TOT's proprietary technology in developing wireless receiver components used in iPhones, violating one of the company's patents.
TOT's founder, Álvaro López-Medrano, claimed to be the original inventor of a power-saving technology for mobile communications.

Apple's unlicensed use of the innovation in the hardware of its iPhones and filed the lawsuit in response. He also revealed that similar patent lawsuits have been filed against LG and Samsung, which are still under judicial review.
The US Attorney's office charged Apple with infringing two TOT patents, but the jury concluded that the infringement applied to one patent.
Despite the court's ruling, Apple denies any wrongdoing, stating that its devices do not use any protected technology from TOT. The company, led by CEO Tim Cook, has announced plans to appeal the decision.

Over 500 killed around GHF aid distributions in Gaza: UN - War on Gaza
More than 500 Palestinians have been killed in the vicinity of the US- and Israel-backed Gaza Humanitarian Foundation's (GHF) distribution sites since late May, the United Nations said on Friday. The GHF, presented as a private initiative, began operating on 26 May after Israel enforced a total blockade on all supplies into Gaza for more than two months, triggering warnings of famine. Since then, Israeli troops have repeatedly opened fire on Palestinians gathering near GHF aid sites. The UN said these incidents, along with Israeli attacks on humanitarian convoys, have resulted in hundreds of deaths. 'We have recorded 613 killings near GHF distribution points and near humanitarian convoys since the GHF began operations, until noon on 27 June,' UN human rights office spokesperson Ravina Shamdasani told reporters. 'Of the 613, 509 were killed near GHF distribution points,' she said. The rest were killed near UN and non-UN aid convoys. Shamdasani said the numbers are likely higher, as the UN continues to receive further reports of Israeli attacks it is working to corroborate. Call for investigation She added that Israel's refusal to grant access to Gaza was obstructing independent verification. 'It is clear that the Israeli military has shelled and shot at Palestinians trying to reach the distribution points,' Shamdasani said. 'How many killings? Who is responsible? We need an investigation. We need access. We need an independent inquiry, and we need accountability for these killings.' The UN and major humanitarian groups have refused to work with the GHF, warning that it was created to serve Israeli military interests and violates core humanitarian principles. Headquartered in Delaware, the GHF is chaired by Johnnie Moore, a Christian evangelical leader and ally of US President Donald Trump. On Thursday, the foundation claimed to have distributed over a million food boxes in Gaza. 'We have not had a single violent incident in our distribution sites. We haven't had a violent incident in close proximity to our distribution sites,' Moore told reporters in Brussels on Wednesday. That claim is contradicted by numerous eyewitness accounts and medical reports from Gaza. Rik Peeperkorn, the World Health Organization's representative in the occupied Palestinian territories, condemned the killings: 'The senseless killing in Gaza must stop.' After visiting Nasser Medical Complex this week, he described hospital corridors packed with wounded civilians. 'There are patients everywhere — on the floor, in the corridors,' he said. 'It's mainly boys, young adolescents, young men, and we all know that they go to these so-called safe, non-UN food distribution sites,' he added. Trump says Hamas to respond within 24 hours to 'final' Gaza truce proposal - War on Gaza
US President Donald Trump said on Friday he expected Hamas to respond within 24 hours to what he described as his 'final proposal' for a ceasefire in Gaza. Speaking to reporters at Joint Base Andrews in Maryland, Trump said: 'We'll know within the next 24 hours,' when asked whether Hamas had agreed to the deal. His remarks came two days after announcing that Israel had accepted a US-backed 60-day ceasefire proposal, pending Hamas's approval. Trump on Thursday said Gazans had 'been through hell,' while sidestepping a question about whether he still intended for the US to take control of the Strip — a reference to his earlier proposal to turn Gaza into a 'Mideast Riviera,' a plan that drew international condemnation. 'I want the people of Gaza to be safe,' he said. Hamas, which has repeatedly said it would only agree to a deal that permanently ends the war, confirmed it was reviewing the proposal. 'The movement is conducting consultations with leaders of Palestinian forces and factions regarding the proposal received... from the mediators,' it said early Friday. On Wednesday, the group signalled openness to a ceasefire but stopped short of accepting the US-backed plan, reaffirming its demand that any deal bring a permanent end to Israel's 21-month war on Gaza. Saudi outlet Asharq News reported that Hamas officials have shown 'flexibility' on the issue of disarmament, which Israel has demanded as a condition for a permanent ceasefire. According to the report, the group may agree — via mediators Qatar and Egypt — to halt weapons smuggling, shut down weapons manufacturing, and transfer existing arms to a location without Hamas presence. It could also accept the temporary exile of a symbolic number of officials from Gaza, in response to Israeli demands to remove the group's leadership from the territory. A Palestinian source familiar with the negotiations told AFP that the proposal includes a 60-day truce, during which Hamas would release half of the living Israeli captives in Gaza in exchange for Israel releasing Palestinian prisoners and detainees. The source said the terms do not differ significantly from earlier proposals. Israel's foreign minister, Gideon Saar, said this week that any chance to free the captives 'must not be missed.' Trump said a deal could come together as soon as next week. Israel's war on Gaza has killed more than 57,000 Palestinians since October 2023, with women and children making up the majority of the dead, according to Gaza's health ministry. Independent estimates indicate the actual toll is higher. Over the past 48 hours, Israeli forces have killed more than 300 Palestinians, according to the Gaza Government Media Office, which said Israel carried out '26 bloody massacres' during that period. Two previous ceasefires, brokered by Qatar, Egypt and the United States, led to brief halts in Israeli attacks and the exchange of Israeli captives for Palestinian prisoners.
