Revanth Reddy Expands Telangana Cabinet, 3 Ministers Sworn-In
Hyderabad:
Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on Sunday expanded his Cabinet by inducting three ministers.
G Vivek Venkataswamy, Adluri Laxman Kumar and Vakiti Srihari were sworn in as ministers by Governor Jishnu Dev Varma at Raj Bhavan.
Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, his Cabinet colleagues, Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) president Mahesh Kumar Goud and senior officials attended the ceremony.
Vivek took oath in English while the remaining two were sworn in Telugu.
This is the first expansion in the Cabinet, which was formed on December 7, 2023, with the swearing-in of the Chief Minister and 11 ministers.
The long-delayed expansion took place after the All India Congress Committee (AICC) cleared the names of three ministers.
Though there are vacancies in the Cabinet, the party leadership decided to keep three posts vacant. The state can have a maximum of 18 ministers, including the Chief Minister.
Vivek Venkataswamy, a former MP and son of former Union Minister G. Venkataswamy, and Government Whip Adluri Laxman are from the Scheduled Castes, while Srihari is from the Backward Classes. Ramachandru Naik is a tribal MLA.
Venkataswamy, an industrialist, had quit the BJP to join Congress a few weeks before the 2023 Assembly elections.
He was elected to Parliament in 2009 from the Peddapalli constituency. He later joined TRS (now BRS) to put pressure on the Congress over the demand for statehood for Telangana.
After the Telangana Bill was passed in the Parliament in 2014, he returned to Congress.
He again returned to the TRS in 2016. In 2019, he resigned as advisor to the Telangana government and quit the ruling party after he was denied a ticket to contest from the Peddapalli Lok Sabha seat. He joined the BJP, which he quit again in November 2023 to return to Congress.
He was elected to the Assembly from Chennur constituency in Mancherial district in 2023, defeating sitting MLA Balka Suman of BRS.
Adluri Laxman Kumar is a senior Congress leader and first-time MLA from Dharmapuri in Jagitial district.
Srihari, who began his political career as a Youth Congress leader, has also been associated with Congress for over three decades. He was elected to the Assembly from the Makthal Assembly constituency in Narayanpet district.
Earlier, the Chief Minister also announced that Ramachandra Naik will be appointed as Deputy Speaker of the Legislative Assembly. He is an MLA from Dornakal constituency in Mahabubabad district.

Bhubaneswar municipal official dragged out of office and assaulted, told to apologise to BJP leader
A group of men on Monday assaulted a municipal official in Bhubaneswar and dragged him out of his office during a weekly grievance hearing session, The Indian Express reported. The official, Additional Commissioner Ratnakar Sahoo of the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation, alleged in his police complaint that six to seven unknown men entered his chamber and aggressively asked him if he had spoken to a Bharatiya Janata Party leader named Jagannath Pradhan. Sahoo told the men he had spoken to Pradhan on the phone earlier in the day. He alleged that the group then tried to drag him by his shirt collar into a vehicle, demanding that he go to the BJP leader and apologise, The New Indian Express reported. It was not clear what the attackers wanted the official to apologise for. I am utterly shocked seeing this video. Today, Shri Ratnakar Sahoo, OAS Additional Commissioner, BMC, a senior officer of the rank of Additional Secretary was dragged from his office and brutally kicked and assaulted in front of a BJP Corporator, allegedly linked to a defeated… — Naveen Patnaik (@Naveen_Odisha) June 30, 2025 'They beat me brutally in full public view with an attempt to murder, in the presence of public representatives, i.e. corporators of the BMC, BMC officers, staff, and citizens,' Sahoo said in his complaint, according to The Indian Express. He alleged that the assailants also snatched his mobile phone and uploaded scandalous content on his WhatsApp status. Bhubaneshwar Municipal Corporation officials held a day-long protest at the corporation office, seeking that the culprits be immediately arrested. Municipal Commissioner Rajesh Prabhakar Patil urged Police Commissioner S Dev Datta Singh to take stringent action against those involved. He said that the assault on a senior bureaucrat without provocation was demoralising. 'The officer was chairing grievance hearing on my behalf,' the municipal commissioner said, according to The New Indian Express. The police have arrested three persons – a corporator named Jeevan Rout and his associates Rashmi Mahapatra and Debashis Pradhan. Rout had been arrested in January 2024 as well for allegedly attacking an assistant sub-inspector. Pradhan said that the assault on Monday was unfortunate and that he knew two persons involved in the attack, The Indian Express reported. He said that the state's BJP government would not shield anyone and action would be taken against all those involved. Biju Janata Dal chief Naveen Patnaik said on X that he was shocked on seeing the video of the attack. He urged Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi to take exemplary action not just against the perpetrators, but also against the political leaders who allegedly orchestrated the attack. 'The people named by the officer in his FIR have behaved like criminals,' Patnaik said. 'If a senior officer is not safe in his own office, then what law and order will ordinary citizens expect from the Government?'

'Fadnavis' govt cancelled the decision': Athawale on Maha language policy
RPI chief Athawale's remarks come amid Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis' announcement to withdraw the resolution on the three-language policy on June 24 ANI Politics Union Minister Ramdas Athawale welcomed the Maharashtra government's decision to withdraw the three-language policy and said that the Devendra Fadnavis government cancelled the policy even before agitations took place. Speaking to the reporters on his visit to Raipur on Tuesday, Athawale said, "There was a controversy in Maharashtra regarding the three-language formula. Hindi has always been our national language, and we respect it, but some people argued that there is no need to teach any other language in Marathi schools. Marathi people took an opposing stance. However, Devendra Fadnavis' government hit a sixer and cancelled the decision to (mandatorily) use the Hindi language even before any agitation took place." RPI chief Athawale's remarks come amid Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis' announcement to withdraw the resolution on the three-language policy on June 24. The Maharashtra government came under fire on April 16, as it passed a resolution mandating Hindi as the compulsory third language in Marathi and English-medium schools. However, in response to the backlash, the government revised the policy on June 17 through an amended resolution, stating, "Hindi will be the third language. For those who want to learn another language, at least 20 willing students are required." On June 24, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis stated that the final decision regarding the three-language formula will be taken only after discussions with litterateurs, language experts, political leaders, and all other concerned parties, which has now led to the cancellation of both the resolutions and the formation of a committee under Narendra Jadhav. When asked about the Centre's decision to conduct a caste-based census, Athawale criticised Congress for not conducting one during their regime. Ramdas Athawale said, "Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Indian government have decided on the caste census, and this is a historic decision, as for many years it was demanded but was not conducted during Congress' rule. Rahul Gandhi was demanding it, but why did he not do it when his government was in power?" "The Parliamentary committee will begin its work. The percentage of each caste will be known. We will get to know, after the independence, how much a caste has developed in terms of employment, and (participation in) agriculture and industries. And this will help the government to support the (backward) castes," he told the reporters.

'Frequent flier PM' off on 5-nation jaunt: Cong takes a jab at Modi
Taking a swipe at Prime Minister Narendra Modi ahead of his visit abroad, the Congress on Tuesday said the "frequent flier PM" is off on a 5-nation "jaunt" and alleged that he is running away from four issues, including the Manipur situation and US President Donald Trump's claims about bringing about a ceasefire between India and Pakistan. Congress general secretary in-charge communications Jairam Ramesh also alleged that the prime minister is running away from the "revelations by defence officials that India suffered reverses in the first two days of Operation Sindoor because of the PM's decisions". Prime Minister Modi will embark on a five-nation tour beginning July 2 to participate in the BRICS Summit in Brazil and expand India's ties with several key nations of the Global South. "When the going gets tough, the self-styled toughs get going. The Super Premium Frequent Flier PM is off on a 5-nation, 8-day jaunt," Ramesh said in a post on X. He is running away from at least four issues that are agitating the nation, Ramesh said. Ramesh alleged that the PM is running away from Manipur, "which he has not visited ever since the double engine in the state got derailed and ever since normal life in the state has got totally destroyed". The Congress leader claimed that PM Modi is also running away from revelations by defence officials that India suffered reverses in the first two days of Operation Sindoor "because of the PM's decisions". His remarks were an apparent reference to the reported comments of India's defence attache to Indonesia. However, the Indian embassy in Indonesia, in a post on X on Sunday, had said that the defence attache's remarks have been "quoted out of context and the media reports are a misrepresentation of the intention and thrust of the presentation made by the speaker". Ramesh also claimed that the PM is running away from the continued claims by President Trump that he effected a ceasefire between India and Pakistan using the trade deal as a carrot and stick. He further alleged that the PM is running away from "the continued failure to bring the Pahalgam terrorists to justice even after 70 days". "The failure is all the more glaring given they may have been earlier involved in terror attacks in Poonch (Dec 2023) and Gagangir & Gulmarg (Oct 2024)," Ramesh said. Besides Brazil, Modi will visit Ghana, Trinidad and Tobago, Argentina, Brazil, and Namibia during the eight-day trip, according to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA). In the first leg of the visit, Modi will undertake a visit to Ghana from July 2 to 3. From Ghana, Modi will travel to Trinidad and Tobago on a two-day visit from July 3 to 4. In the third leg of his visit, Modi will visit Argentina from July 4 to 5. In the fourth leg of his visit, Modi will travel to Brazil at the invitation of President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva. The prime minister will visit Brazil from July 5 to 8 to attend the 17th BRICS Summit followed by a state visit. In the final leg of his visit, Modi will travel to Namibia.
