Thane man beaten up: Accused made to touch his feet & apologise in front of ex-Sena UBT MP

Indian Express7 hours ago
Two days after a video of a man being beaten up by three men outside the Thane railway station went viral, another video has surfaced in which the accused are made to fall at his feet and apologise by the Shiv Sena (UBT). One of the accused is even slapped. All this happens in the presence of former Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Rajan Vichare in a closed room.
In the video, the three men are told to speak in Marathi despite not knowing the language and are warned 'such things will not be allowed in Maharashtra'.
On Monday, the three men beat up Thane resident Kiran Jadhav (43) outside a mobile phone store near the Thane railway station. Soon after, Shiv Sena (UBT) workers reached out to Jadhav and took him to the Thane Civil Hospital. The party workers then lodged an FIR at the Naupada police station against the three men identified as Shanmukh Pujari, Saurabh Jaiswal and Jayantilal Purohit.
'Jadhav wanted to recharge his SIM card at the mobile phone store. When one of the accused said the shop did not have the facility to do it and it must be done online, it led to an argument. The accused then beat up Jadhav,' a police officer said.
As the sections involved were not major, police issued a notice to the accused and allowed them to leave. Several Shiv Sena (UBT) workers had gathered at the Naupada police station in support of Jadhav.
Next day, two of the accused were brought to an office where Vichare and Jadhav were present. On camera, the accused were asked to identify themselves and fall at the feet of Jadhav and apologise.
Nudged by someone, Jadhav also slapped one of the accused, as seen in the video. Later, in the video, Vichare is heard telling the accused that they beat up a 'Marathi manoos' and 'it won't work in Maharashtra'.
The accused, standing with their hands folded in one corner, apologised again following which they are asked to talk to everyone in Marathi, to which they agree.
Shiv Sena (UBT) MLA Aaditya Thackeray said the incident has nothing to do with Marathi-non-Marathi issue. 'There was an altercation between them over disagreement in a shop over charging of phone. This has been mentioned in the FIR as well. It has nothing to do with language of either of them. I urge all to not give it a colour of any dispute over language,' Thackeray said.

Bandh to protest attack on trader who could not speak in Marathi

Mira-Bhayander: A shopkeeper's assault by MNS workers for not speaking Marathi led to a 'bandh' by Mira Road-Bhayander traders who demanded the arrest of the assaulters. An FIR was filed, but no arrests have been made as charges invoked are minor. This has prompted calls for invoking the IT Act as the assaulters made a video of the attack and circulated it. Traders observed a day's bandh on Thursday demanding the arrest of the men who attacked the sweet shop owner on Tuesday for not speaking in Marathi. An FIR was filed against seven individuals at Kashimira police station. However, only notices were sent; no arrest took place. The bandh was called by traders of all communities. Kamla Chaudhary, a pharmacist, speaking in fluent Marathi, said, "I have been operating a pharmacy in Mira Bhayander for over a decade now. Such harassment will have a negative impact." One of the traders at a protest questioned why such acts took place though the BJP was running the govt: "If they are in power in the State and the Centre, then why are we not safe," he said. Another protestor, Meena Agarwal, said, "I am 60yrs old now and have been speaking our mother tongue all these years and it is not possible for me to learn this language. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Tinnitus: what this grandson discovered will surprise you Hearing Magazine Undo Our next generation is studying and speaking in Marathi. Minister of state for home Yogesh Kadam sought to balance linguistic chauvinism with condemnation of the vigilantes. Kadam said, "In Maharashtra, you have to speak Marathi. If you don't know Marathi, your attitude shouldn't be that you won't speak Marathi... If anyone disrespects Marathi here, we will enforce our laws.'' At the same time, he said those who beat up (the shop owner) should not take the law into their own hands. "They should have filed a complaint against the concerned person; action would have been taken." Sena (UBT) MLA Aaditya Thackeray said, "We want that our mother tongue Marathi is not insulted and no language is forcefully imposed... We don't want anybody to take the law into their hands, but when it is the other way round and Marathi or Maharashtra is insulted, things can escalate." In the FIR, shop owner Babulal Khimji Chaudhary said his employee was threatened and abused when he replied in Hindi to some people who came to his shop asking for water. Later they beat up Chaudary, the complaint said.

Safety of warkaris is of prime importance, and police are alert to prevent any untoward incident: Shinde

Kolhapur: The safety of warkaris is the responsibility of the state govt, and the police department is alert to prevent any untoward incident in the wari, said deputy chief minister Eknath Shinde at Pandharpur. He was responding to a question from reporters regarding Shiv Sena MLC Manisha Kayande's claim that "urban naxals" had infiltrated the wari. Kayande raised the issue in the ongoing session of the state legislature on Wednesday. She said that atheist people and their organisations participated in the wari — the pilgrimage of the devotees to Pandharpur — in the guise of creating awareness about the Constitution and environment by organising 'Constitution Dindi' and 'Environment Dindi.' Kayande termed such people "urban naxals" who are using the wari to spread their ideology among warkaris. The state govt is bringing Maharashtra Special Public Security Bill, and Kayande claimed that the bill was aimed at stopping the activities of "urban naxals". Her remark has been condemned by the opposition and various warkari groups. Asked about the anger among the warkari groups regarding the claim of "urban naxals" infiltrating the pilgrimage, Shinde said, "Everyone wants a safe wari to take place. It is the govt's responsibility. No single warkari should face trouble. The police are alert and ready for preventive action against any wrong incident. If someone is found indulging in such activities, police will take action immediately. " Dharmik, adhyatmik adishthan above political adisthan: Shinde Shinde said that he has come as a devotee. "For us, warkaris are VIPs. Arrangements have been made so that the time required for darshan has reduced to five to six hours from 15-16 hours. For me, dharmik and adhyatmik adishtan (religious and spiritual power) is above rajkiya adishthan (political power)," said Shinde. During the visit, Shinde and ministers Girish Mahajan and Prakash Abitkar visited Palkhi Sthal—the place where the Palkhis on their way to Pandharpur will rest. He asked the authorities to control the release of water from Ujani dam so that Bhima river (called Chandrabhaga) passing through the town empties the sand beach, allowing warkaris to access the river water for a holy dip. Palkhis of sant brothers meet In Malshiras tehsil, the palkhis of Sant Dnyaneshwar and his brother Sopandev Maharaj meet. The Bandhu Bhet is celebrated by the warkaris walking along with the palkhis. Afterwards, the palkhi of Sant Dnyaneshwar moved and entered Pandharpur tehsil.
