Plea to continue services of temporary faculty in public universities of Andhra Pradesh
In a representation made to the Chairman of APSCHE K. Madhu Murthy, the Mahasangh's State president Y.V. Rami Reddy and general secretary D.S.V.S. Balasubramanyam, they drew his attention that these temporary faculty members were appointed through duly constituted expert committees after fulfilling the required eligibility criteria. Many of them had been serving in their respective departments for several years, often with minimum remuneration, they said.
The Mahasangh leaders said moreover, due to shortage of regular teaching staff, several departments across the public universities were entirely dependent on the temporary faculty and discontinuing their services at this stage would severely disrupt the teaching-learning process and adversely affect the academic progress of students.
Citing G.O. Ms. No. 20, issued on August 20, 2016, they said the State government had already acknowledged the services of such temporary faculty and had ensured weightage for them in regular recruitment processes. Reiterating their demand to continue their services, they also urged the authorities to implement G.O. Ms. No. 110 to ensure uniform and reasonable remuneration for all temporary faculty members working in the State Universities and steps to expedite the recruitment process to fill approximately 5,000 vacant teaching positions in the State Universities.

RTC staff threaten stir over privatisation of Vijayawada depot lands
Vijayawada: The Andhra Pradesh Public Transport Department (APPTD) Employees Union on Monday issued a stern warning to the state government, vowing to intensify its agitation if the Governorpet 1 & 2 RTC depots in Vijayawada are relocated to facilitate a Lulu shopping mall project. In a press release issued here, the EU announced that the state government, on Sunday, approved the handover of approximately 4.15 acres of prime land to the Lulu Group for the construction of a shopping mall. This allocated land reportedly includes not only the Governorpet 1 & 2 depots but also the Old Bus Stand and even a municipal park developed during the previous TDP regime. The union alleges that this valuable public land, estimated to be worth hundreds of crores of rupees, has been earmarked for the Lulu Mall, a move they argue will displace essential public transport infrastructure and adversely affect thousands of daily commuters. 'This decision is not in the public interest. It moves RTC depots away from the city's center and hands over valuable public land to private entities,' stated Palisetti Damodara Rao, State president of the APPTD Employees Union. In response to the government's decision, the union has announced a teleconference with its state-level leadership for July 29. Following this, a detailed agitation plan will be declared on July 30, according to Damodara Rao. The union has demanded the immediate withdrawal of G.O. Ms. No. 137 and has vowed to escalate protests if the government proceeds with the proposed land transfer. 'We are not against development, but not at the cost of public transport and public assets,' added GV Narasaiah, State General Secretary of the Employees Union. 'We urge the government to reconsider its decision and protect the RTC properties that serve lakhs of RTC passengers.'

Telangana HC hears Vacate Petitions filed by senior IAS and IPS officers on land at Nagaram
The High Court of Telangana on Monday heard the Vacate Petitions filed by senior IAS and IPS officers and questioned the writ petitioner Birla Mallesh about his locus standi to file the writ petition concerned with Survey No. 194 of Nagaram village. Senior counsels appearing for the officers, have pointed out that Birla Jangamma, mother of the writ petitioner, had already filed a writ petition in the year 2024 and it was disposed. The writ petitioner with a malafide intention to tarnish the image of IAS and IPS officers has not disclosed the WP filed by his mother and disposed of in 2024 to the High Court, they argued. Senior counsels P. Raghuram and Chandrasen Reddy have further argued that the petitioner, after obtaining interim orders stating Survey No. 194 of Nagaram village as Bhoodan land, has changed his stand that the land is not Bhoodan land but government land. The petitioner also suppressed various material facts misrepresenting that Survey No. 194 of Nagaram village is a Bhoodan land. The counsel for petitioner sought two weeks of time from the Court, but the Court declined the request and posted the matter to tomorrow (July 29) for hearing.

MUTA-AUT protest outside RJD office demanding CAS salary benefits
Demanding disbursal of pending salaries to teachers of aided colleges, members of MUTA (Madurai Kamaraj University, Manonmaniam Sundaranar University, Mother Teresa Women's University and Alagappa University) along with Association of University Teachers (AUT) Madurai region staged a waiting protest outside Regional Joint Directorate of Collegiate Education's office here on Monday. As part of the State-wide protest, the protesters waited the whole day outside the RJD office. A.T. Senthamarai Kannan, General Secretary, MUTA, said that their key demand was to immediately sanction the Career Advancement Scheme (CAS) benefit along with arrears. As per the Government Order of Higher Education Department issued in 2021, the CAS benefits should have reached all eligible lecturers. But due to the confusion in the G.O., it was not properly implemented, he added. When their counterparts in the government colleges have received all benefits including their salaries, only aided-college teachers were devoid of the benefits, he noted. 'It has been more than four years now since the orders were issued, a section of us is left out in receiving any benefits. But almost all staff in northern and western districts have already received their benefits,' he said. As the State-wide full-day demonstration outside RJD offices yielded no results, he said their next action would be to march towards the Directorate of Collegiate Education in Chennai on August 8. 'We are left to see if at least the mass appeal with the shake the consciousness of the government,' he noted.
