UP CM calls for vigilance in institutes catering to differently-abled, emphasises student safety
He also said that Divyang Rehabilitation Centres should be established at all 18 divisional headquarters of the state to provide accessible local services related to rehabilitation, education, and skill development
Chairing a review meeting of the Divyangjan Shaskhaktikaran and backward welfare departments, he warned against attempts by certain elements to mislead students under the guise of support.
Highlighting the need for strict background checks, he said external organisations proposing assistance to these institutions should only be allowed after thorough verification.
'We must be completely vigilant to ensure the safety and psychosocial protection of students,' he added.
Adityanath ordered a comprehensive inspection of all childhood day-care centres, mental asylum homes, integrated schools, and special schools such as 'Mamta', 'Sparsh', and 'Sanket'.
Vacant teaching posts in special schools should be filled promptly, and until regular appointments are made, services of eligible youth should be engaged through other arrangements, the chief minister said.
He suggested offering weightage to these candidates in future recruitment processes.
During the meeting, Adityanath emphasised the need for transparent and technologically equipped welfare programmes that ensure timely benefits for targeted recipients.
Citing the state's commitment to the welfare of differently-abled persons, the chief minister said the department's budget has increased over tenfold in the past eight years.
Officials informed that under the Divyangjan Pension Scheme, ₹1,300 crore has been disbursed to 11.04 lakh beneficiaries, while around 12,000 leprosy-affected persons are receiving monthly assistance of ₹3,000.
He directed that a state-wide campaign be launched to identify eligible individuals not receiving pensions and weed out ineligible beneficiaries.
Officials said in the last financial year, ₹28.93 crore was spent on distributing assistive devices like tricycles, wheelchairs, and Braille kits to 35,136 beneficiaries.
Besides, 270 severely disabled persons received motorised tricycles under a scheme that offers up to ₹2 lakh in assistance.
The CM urged coordination with MPs and MLAs to support the motorised tricycle scheme through their local development funds.
The meeting was informed that over 31 lakh differently-abled individuals availed of the free travel facility in state-run buses in the last fiscal.

Woman dies by suicide after husband slaps her over fighting with his mother
Mumbai Police have recently booked a man on charges of abetment to suicide, as his wife died by suicide after he slapped her for fighting with his mother. The accused man had been having frequent fights with his wife and demanding her to bring dowry from her father's home. Police have also pressed charges of dowry death against him on the complaint of the deceased woman's family. The woman has been identified as 23-year-old Mamta, who allegedly died at her husband's Sakinaka house on June 28. Mamta married Rajesh Jokhai Prasad Maurya, 32, a driver by profession in June 2024. This was her second marriage, as she had divorced her first husband. As per the police complaint, a month after marriage, Maurya told Mamta to borrow money from her father, as he wanted to buy a flat. Her father gave her husband Rs 5 lakh. However, later Maurya allegedly asked her to bring more money, the police said. Mamta's younger brother, Shubham Kushwaha, who lives with a relative in Kandivali, in his statement to the police, said that whenever Mamta would speak to family members in their UP village over the phone, she would ask for money and also tell how her husband harassed and assaulted her for dowry. The police informed her parents, who then informed Mamta's brother in Mumbai to visit her in-laws' place. The brother went to the Rajawadi hospital, where Maurya told him that she had a fight with his mother, after which he slapped her. Later, she died by suicide, states the FIR. On Kushwaha's statement, the police booked Maurya under sections 108 (abetment of suicide) and 80 (dowry death) of Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS). Police are scanning Mamta's phone and will also be recording statements of her parents to understand the plight she was going through, an officer said.

UP Board introduces online attendance for teachers, students
1 2 Prayagraj: The UP Board on Tuesday implemented an online attendance system for both teachers and students of all govt, aided and private secondary schools across the state to ensure transparency and efficient monitoring. The move is part of the Yogi Adityanath govt's ongoing efforts to incorporate technology and innovation into the educational sector to improve governance and outcomes. This new system enables real-time tracking of attendance through a dedicated portal developed by the board. The initiative covers 29,183 schools, including 2,547 govt, 4,522 aided and 22,114 non-aided private schools. The UP Board designed a specialised online platform to facilitate this process, accessible via the link ( Board officials said school principals must log into the portal using a secure username, password, and security code. Upon logging in, they access a dashboard displaying class-wise sections along with lists of registered students. The attendance can be marked under three categories — present, absent, and leave — with an obligatory reason to be entered for any leave marked. Book on POCSO Act released in Madurai
Madras High Court Judge Justice L. Victoria Gowri on Sunday released a book raising awareness about the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act in Tamil and Braille. The book was written by Advocate K. Samidurai. The event was organised by Indian Association of lawyers and Thuimai Vizhigal Arakattalai. Justice Victoria Gowri said there was a need to create awareness about the provisions of the POCSO Act. The provisions of another Act that also needed awareness was the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013, she said. Ignorance of law was no excuse, she said, adding that more such books need to be published to create an awareness among the public. People with social interest and social responsibility should unite and work towards bringing a change in society, she said. She appreciated the efforts taken by the author Advocate Samidurai and said the question and answer format in the book made it easier for people to understand. Senior Consultant Psychiatrist C. Ramasubramanian said the book was an important one and should be kept in schools to create awareness about the Act. The language used was simple and will help the readers, he said, adding that the Act was a tool to help the children and their families. Madurai Government Law College Principal P. Kumaran urged the people to read the book. He said self discipline was important and advised the students not to get influenced by the contents on social media. Advocate Samidurai thanked the dignitaries and provided free copies of the book to government schools in Madurai. He said the book will be distributed to other educational institutions.
