Soccer-Man City's Echeverri likely to miss rest of Club World Cup with ankle injury
(Reuters) -Manchester City attacking midfielder Claudio Echeverri is likely to miss the rest of the Club World Cup after suffering a twisted ankle during their 6-0 win over Al-Ain, manager Pep Guardiola said on Wednesday.
The 19-year-old Argentina international scored from a free kick as City ensured qualification for the knockout stages with their second group-stage win in a row on Sunday, but could not continue after halftime due to the injury.
"He has some problems with his ankle. It'll be two or three weeks out unfortunately. I feel so sorry for him, for all of us," Guardiola told reporters ahead of their final Group G match against Juventus on Thursday.
City are tied with Juventus on six points but sit second in the group. The runner-up plays the winner of Group H in the round of 16, which is currently Real Madrid.

LONDON, July 30 — Goalkeeper James Trafford has signed a deal to return to Manchester City from Burnley, the Premier League giants announced on Tuesday. Man City activated a £27.5 million (RM155.5 million) buy-back clause for the 22-year-old England youth international, according to British media reports. Trafford, who never played for the City senior team during his first spell at the Etihad Stadium, left for Burnley in 2023. He struggled in his first season as the Clarets were relegated from the Premier League, but equalled an English football record with 29 clean sheets last term to help Burnley earn promotion back into the top flight. Englishman Trafford, who won the golden glove with 29 clean sheets in the Championship last season, has re-joined the club where he spent eight years as a youth player for £27 million (US$36 million), English media reports said. "Rejoining City is such special and proud moment both for me and my family. I always dreamed that one day I would be able to come back to Manchester City," Trafford said in a statement shared by City. "This is the place I call home – it's a truly special football club with fantastic people who make it such a unique place to work and play." Trafford played on loan at third-tier sides Accrington Stanley and Bolton Wanderers before making a permanent move to Burnley in 2023, where he played his first full season in the Premier League, making 28 appearances as the club was relegated. But the six-foot-six keeper returned to form in the Championship last season, with Burnley conceding only 16 goals in the campaign, 14 fewer than champions Leeds United.
