Netflix series fans are already calling 'the best of 2025' after binging episodes in just one day
Netflix viewers are absolutely hooked on what they're calling the 'best drama series of 2025'.
Weak Hero has made a grand entrance on the major streaming platform with the launch of its second season. The first series was initially exclusive to the Waave platform in 2022, but now both instalments, subtitled Class 1 and 2, have found their way onto Netflix.
The drama is a South Korean production based on a webtoon of the same name. The second season was added to the service on Friday (April 25), following the first a few weeks prior, and it's proving to be an unexpected hit among subscribers.
At the time of writing, it has secured a spot in the top 10 most watched shows in several regions. It currently ranks sixth among UK users and has climbed as high as third in the US. It appears that many viewers are thoroughly enjoying binge-watching all the episodes, reports the Mirror US.
The show's synopsis suggests a blend of Gossip Girl, John Wick and Fight Club. It centres around Yeon Si-eun, who ranks in the top 1% of his class and is solely focused on his studies. However, he refuses to back down from the ruthless school bullies.
Instead, he utilises his quick decision-making skills and extensive knowledge of various subjects, along with his surroundings, to defend himself. Finding himself in serious danger, he forms new friendships to navigate a high school life filled with violence and discover the true meaning of strength.
Fans have been sharing their feelings online about the show with one declaring: "Weak Hero is a masterpiece! Best drama series of 2025. The emotions hit harder, the fights are even more brutal and realistic!"
They further enthused: "Park Ji-hoon absolutely owned his role - the pain, the loneliness, the silent strength... I felt everything! The story isn't just about fighting - it's about trust, betrayal, and survival. Every scene had me on the edge of my seat."
Another fan praised the series on Rotten Tomatoes, where it boasts a phenomenal 94% approval score: "It's difficult to put into words just how incredible this drama is. It was my first time seeing Park Ji Hoon in an acting role and he totally blew me away. The show is perfectly written. A must watch for anyone that doesn't mind violence in a drama."
A different viewer expressed a fervent desire not to leave the show's world, saying: "I didn't want it to end. Insane fight scenes, emotional gut-punches, and characters you'll obsess over (even the villains), even though I really wish we got more of Su-ho."
One more fan echoed a common sentiment, harbouring hopes for another season, writing: "Honest opinion, Weak Hero was too short. There needs to be a part three or something of that sort."
They added: "From first episode to the last l was at the edge of my seat. I'm so glad they put all the episodes on Netflix because l don't think l would have been able to wait for a new episode coming out weekly that would have been horrific."

Julian married Dannii Minogue in 1994 after meeting her on the set of Home and Away a few years prior. He even starred in her music video for This Is It, which was about the couple's relationship. They spent a lot of time apart due to his busy career in the US and her career in the UK. A year and a half later, they went their separate ways. In 1999, he married Baywatch star Brooke Burns, with the two welcoming a daughter in 2000 before their split in 2001. He then married for a third time in 2014 to Kelly Paniagua. The Thursday Murder Club to be shown in just 30 cinemas
Richard Osman has a grand plan to save cinemas. The House of Games TV presenter and bestselling author has argued on his podcast The Rest is Entertainment that they should screen big-budget television dramas alongside the latest films to tackle stagnant admissions. However, his strategic support does not appear to have translated into real-world help around Netflix's anticipated film adaptation of The Thursday Murder Club. 'Some very good news for everyone who wanted to see The Thursday Murder Club in UK cinemas,' he said on Instagram last week. 'Netflix have listened to the clamour, and the film will now have a run in UK cinemas. See what happens when you all ask!' However, 'delight quickly turned to disappointment' among cinema operators after they learnt that it was to be released in a 'paltry' number of just over 30 screens. • Richard Osman envies other writers even if he's making a killing In contrast, Brad Pitt's F1: The Movie, which is funded by the rival streaming service Apple TV, is estimated to have opened at 700 screens and sped into pole position at the UK box office after grossing about £7 million. Netflix has me hooked on this 'naughty' hidden gem Spanish period drama
This week I've been bingeing a new-to-me period drama that's a whole heap of fun, but I somehow missed when it was initially released earlier this year. However, my Netflix recommendations eventually came through for me last weekend when they suggested I try a Spanish historical show. A hidden gem, The Lady's Companion tells the story of chaperone Elena Bianda (Nadia de Santiago), who is hired on a trial basis to find husbands for three wealthy sisters (Isa Montalbán's Cristina, Zoe Bonafonte's Sara and Iratxe Emparán as Carlota) in Madrid by their foreboding father, Don Pedro (Tristán Ulloa). Battling the sharp elbows of her fellow chaperones alongside frustrating relatives of the family's, it soon becomes clear that Elena is also hiding from a past that comes back to bite her, with the audience drawn into a late 19th-century world of love, scandal and comic intrigue. And obviously there are several potential suitors running around, causing chaos, including Álvaro Mel as Santiago, Iván Lapadula as Eduardo and Carloto Cotta as Gabriel. I would describe The Lady's Companion (Spanish title: Manual para señoritas) as a mix between Bridgerton and Fleabag with a touch of Amélie's vibrant colour and whimsy, producing an entertaining and period drama in its own right – with a sprinkling of naughtiness. To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video It has some of the sauciness and irreverence towards the traditional view of these kinds of shows as Bridgerton does; there are certainly some pre-marital bedroom shenanigans going on from as early as the first episode… Our heroine Elena regularly breaks the fourth wall, addressing the camera and talking directly to the audience à la Fleabag (although no one's caught her out yet, like Andrew Scott's Hot Priest). She also argues with the show's narrator when she deems he's stepping out of line. While the abundance of flowers and the characters' gorgeously sumptuous dresses are also reminiscent of Bridgerton, with the brightness turned up to 11 on the colour as well as the quirkiness of fun graphics onscreen, we are also – knowingly – enjoying the artifice and fantasy, as with Jean-Pierre Jeunet's 2001 French film starring Audrey Tauou. The Lady's Companion also reminds me a bit of The Law According to Lidia Poët, although this show has matchmaking and romance more at the centre of it than Lidia Poët's mystery and crime. But Sara's quest to become a doctor also has a clear parallel to Lidia's experience as a female lawyer also trying to succeed in a male dominated profession and society. The show boasts plenty of racy moments alongside the general rebelliousness of its female characters, including its very own raunchy carriage-based rendezvous and plenty of illicit affairs. Anachronistic music choices are also injected, like Bridgerton, to spice up certain scenes, such as Whitney Houston's version of I Will Always Love You and The Turtles' iconic 1967 song Happy Together soundtracking a group dance number. I'm far from the only one enjoying The Lady's Companion either, with it nabbing 89% from fan reviews on Rotten Tomatoes. 'Amazing! I binge watched this. It is witty, funny, romantic, and has a fascinating storyline that forces you to develop an attachment to the characters. It is impossible not to love this series,' enthused Elise Hartley in a Google review as Rawan Najji G added: 'I love it. Can't wait for season TWOOO LETS GOO [si]. I literally finished it in one day y'all 😭😭' Sylvia W also revealed she had 'binged it in less than a week, which is very unusual for me' on Rotten Tomatoes, while Hannah labelled it 'a must watch'. More Trending 'Me and the wife could not stop laughing. We both agree they MUST not leave us hanging and bring it back for season 2,' chimed in Erich H. Sadly, it looks like The Lady's Companion may have fallen foul of the Netflix curse after the streamer confirmed in May that it had been cancelled after one season – despite being shaped around a continuation and ending on a cliff-hanger.
