But a colleague who later saw a video of the incident said it had upset her and referred to the #metoo movement.
Jones, who was head of health and safety at McVitie's owner Pladis, was then fired for 'violating morality and decency'.
An employment tribunal was told that the incident happened as he volunteered to go on stage to accept a gong won by the company.
It was being presented by an actress — not identified at the hearing — and Jones stood next to her and slapped her bottom.

The tribunal heard that although Jones had not asked for consent, he told her he had slapped another 'well-known woman's' bum on stage, so the actress said 'go for it'.
Hundreds of people had attended the International Safety Awards — organised by the British Safety Council — which took place at the InterContinental Hotel in London's Park Lane on June 7 last year.
A junior colleague of Jones who was at the event — but who did not see the slap — said she was shown a video of the incident and was upset by it.
Jones was reported to HR and had a disciplinary hearing the following month for 'physical conduct pertaining to sexual harassment'.
He said he had 'nothing to apologise' for and that even the actress 'felt it was appropriate in the context of the evening'.
But Jones was sacked over the 'wholly inappropriate' behaviour.

He was told that entering into a conversation with the presenter before receiving the award was 'ill-judged and had the potential to put any female presenter in a very uncomfortable position'.
Gemma, who was in Emmerdale from 2011 to 2015, was not interviewed on the matter.
But in a social media post the day after the bash, she told of the 'naughtiness' of the event and said she had a 'bloody good giggle'.
Jones had joined Pladia in 2001 as head of health, safety, environment and security.
He appealed against his sacking but it was dismissed.
He then took it to the tribunal, alleging unfair dismissal.
Jones said the views of the actress were 'highly relevant' and that she 'did not feel harassed, was not distressed, and made no complaint'.
But the central London tribunal found his conduct had upset colleagues and he was fairly dismissed.
The Sun had approached Gemma for comment.

Coronation Street star announces abrupt exit as character 'killed off' without warning
One Coronation Street star confirmed they had left the ITV soap with their final scenes airing on Friday, with fans convinced their character was killed off in a twist A Coronation Street star has confirmed their exit from the ITV soap and it's already aired. In a brutal twist their character may have been killed off, after the actor's farewell post left fans convinced they were "brown bread". Logan Radcliffe was back on the ITV soap this week, visited in prison by Carla Connor. She was desperate for answers on what happened to her partner Lisa Swain's late wife Becky Swain. It comes as Lisa was struggling to move forward, not knowing for sure if Becky was in trouble before her death and why she was killed, accident or not, and Carla wanted to help. She visited Logan who demanded £10,000 for information he may have on Becky. He then let slip a name, Tia Wardley, while no context was given. Whoever she is, it was enough to land Logan in trouble with a cellmate over a "mutual friend" he'd upset. He was told he had said too much, and with that his cell door was closed with it clear he was in danger. As the episode came to an end, actor Harry Lowbridge, who pays Logan, took to Instagram to announce his exit from the show. Confirming his final scenes had now aired, the ones with the random cellmate, he confirmed post-attack he would not be seen again. With that, fans were convinced Logan was now dead. They beloeved whoever Tia was, fake or not, he'd said too much and a mystery person made the cellmate punish him. Fans believe it will emerge that Logan is dead, killed in his cell, with the actor confirming no more scenes were planned. He shared on Instagram: "Farewell Logan. It's been a blast x." Taking to social media after the post and the scenes, fans shared their theories that the soap had just killed off a character without warning. One viewer said: "So Logan is brown bread then?" Another fan agreed: "RIP Logan," as a third viewer said; "So Logan gets killed off in prison then!" A further comment read; "Harry posting a goodbye? Has Logan been killed in prison?" The comments kept on coming with one fan writing: "Okay so when Logan is killed in prison then what?!" Whether Logan is dead or alive is yet to be revealed despite suspicions, with fans wondering if he will return at some point - and if we will find out who it was that orchestrated the attack. Then there's the fact that Tia could or could not be linked to the plot. Why are people so desperate to keep the truth hidden too? All will have to be revealed at some point. The Chase star's Anne Hegerty's relationship bombshell after wedding snub
Quiz queen Anne Hegerty opens up about her true thoughts on romance, why she could only watch parts of I'm A Celeb last year - and the campmate she jokes she has beef with There's nobody quite like Anne Hegerty. Quiz queen extraordinaire on The Chase since 2010, and the woman who entertained us in the jungle in 2018, the 67-year-old – who was diagnosed with autism in her mid-40s – is unapologetically her own woman. Here, the witty and wonderfully straight-talking TV star opens up to OK! about why she's not one bit interested in romance, having a bone to pick with her old jungle campmate Nick Knowles and the big ambition she's yet to tick off… Anne, what are you up to these days? I'm enjoying a little break from work. We finished filming the current series of The Chase in early April and we have tons of shows in the can. I'm not sure how long I have off just yet. It's a question of when we can get the studio and when we can get Bradley Walsh as he is, without doubt, the busiest man in showbiz. And it's nice as we all get on well away from the cameras. It wouldn't really work if we didn't. Will you be resting up then? Well, officially I live in Manchester so I'm going back there, which will be nice. There's a three-day quiz weekend happening up there. I fully intend to go to that. Don't you do enough quizzes in your day job? No, I feel like I've got to keep doing these quizzes. I was at a charity quiz last night and I logged my mileage. I was thinking, 'This is a training session. I'm going to tell my accountant – it is tax deductible!' I'm off to Scarborough soon for a photoshoot as I'm going to be in panto there this Christmas. I'm playing Fairy Rose in Beauty And The Beast. I don't feel much like a Fairy Rose, but I have plenty of time to get into character. What is people's biggest misconception of you? Oh, that I know everything about everything. You have no idea about how much stuff I do not know. At last night's quiz I was being auctioned off to the highest bidder in each round to raise money for the Paul Strank charity. The team that bought me for the sports' round, I felt like apologising in advance. I know nothing about sport. You're comfortable in your own company, aren't you? Yes I am. Even at showbiz events, I need to take time out if it's very noisy. I need to chill for a bit, alone. I know many people like that. People keep inviting me to things and I think, 'Are you lonely?' So many people have tons of friends and have to have them around all the time. Would you like someone special to share your life with? No, I really wouldn't. I used to, but I realised I was wanting to want it rather than genuinely wanting a romantic relationship. I don't even want pets. I've got pot plants and I mind when they die, but no, I'm very happy in my own company. I'm just fine. Do you keep in touch with your old I'm A Celebrity campmates? We've still got our WhatsApp group. It's not very active, but I did post on there recently. I saw in the papers that Nick Knowles had got married. I didn't get an invite, but I'm not bitter – much! I posted my congrats on the group and everyone else did the same. If I meet any of them out and about, it's always big catch-ups and hugs. Did you watch the last series of I'm A Celebrity? I watched bits of it. It's too stressful to watch much of it. The things that are upsetting about it aren't what you'd imagine. I found I was stressed, and little details got to me. Like, I didn't have a flat surface to put things on. How do I change my contact lenses? You're only allowed three pairs of knickers, so you feel like you're constantly washing knickers – and it's very hard to get them dry. Nick was amazing – he invented his own drying rack. Strictly is coming up. Would you ever… God no! My agent tried to get me to do it ages ago, but I couldn't even formulate the words to say, 'I think this is a bloody terrible idea.' I can't dance to save my life. When I'm in panto, you can make me sing a bit but, whatever you do, don't make me dance. Have everyone dance around me, like a maypole. Do you have any burning ambitions left? I would love to do a bit of acting. I'd love a chance to do a comedy role. I do love being funny. I recently filmed a cameo in a very low-budget horror movie. I mean, it's so low budget I've been offered a share in the profits. It's called Deadcast, about a couple of guys who do a podcast about the supernatural. They head off to Lincolnshire to interview people who've had spooky experiences, and end up getting more than they bargained for. Who do you play? I play a woman who saw a UFO, put it on the internet and got massively trolled and ended up becoming a recluse. There's a scene where they interview me in my garden and I'm showing them where I saw the UFO. I say, 'They've been with me my whole life. It doesn't matter where I go, they follow me.' And just at that precise moment, an ice cream van passes playing Teddy Bears' Picnic. It was a lot of fun.

Actress Ruth Jones to guest present The Archers Podcast
The Welsh actress will be joined by Archers cast members Charlotte Martin (Susan Carter) and Wilf Scolding (Chris Carter), along with Sarah McDonald Hughes, the writer of this week's episodes. The podcast will be available exclusively on BBC Sounds from 7.15pm on Friday. Jones, who co-wrote and co-starred in Gavin & Stacey, described herself as a 'massive Archers addict'. In the podcast she delves into the Carter family's complex history, including Chris's turbulent relationship with Alice and a powerful archive flashback to his birth in 1988, when he was born with a unilateral cleft lip and rejected by his mother. Jones also picks her two favourite scenes of the week, reveals her favourite quirky Archers character traits, and poses some burning questions about unresolved storylines in the fictional village of Ambridge. Jones said: 'I've been an avid fan of The Archers since the early 90s. 'Despite being an actress and writer myself, the thought of actually being in The Archers, or writing it, absolutely terrifies me because in my mind Ambridge really exists.' The Archers Podcast is released weekly every Friday, immediately after The Archers is broadcast on BBC Radio 4. It is usually presented by Emma Freud, who is on holiday this week. The first national episode of The Archers was broadcast on the BBC on January 1 1951.
