Fanduel Sports Network's John Sadak and Jeff Brantley discussed the importance of Petty's latest start during the broadcast of the Reds' series finale against the Miami Marlins.
Cincinnati Reds minor-league pitcher Chase Petty
"That start for Petty is pretty big," Sadak said. "He had a great spring, he had a rough first few starts in Triple-A. But it seems like maybe he's starting to get right. His stuff is sensational. You thought that (Spring Training) start against the Dodgers was incredibly impressive."
"I think that for most times when you're making starts in the minor leagues, you don't really see that my next start could be in the big-leagues," Brantley added. "Because if you can get that focus better, and that's really what you're after and that's why you're not in the big-leagues. Because the focus becomes even that much more critical when you're at the big-league level. You can't get away with 17, 18 pitches in a ballgame that you just don't execute."

Petty ranks sixth among MLB Pipeline's top Reds prospects. Petty was acquired from the Minnesota Twins in 2022 for pitcher Sonny Gray.

Dodgers 'Creative' 3-Team Trade Earns High Praise From MLB Insider
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. Compared to some of their fellow World Series contenders, the Los Angeles Dodgers didn't make the flashiest moves at this year's trade deadline. The Dodgers' division rivals, the San Diego Padres, were wheeling and dealing. So, too, were the Philadelphia Phillies and New York Mets. Comparatively, the Dodgers' modest moves for names like Brock Stewart and Alex Call didn't generate a ton of fanfare. However, one Dodgers move flew under the radar to many in the moment, but caught the eye of a Major League Baseball insider. LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA - MARCH 31: A detailed view of Los Angeles Dodgers hats and gloves during the game against the Atlanta Braves at Dodger Stadium on March 31, 2025 in Los Angeles, California. LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA - MARCH 31: A detailed view of Los Angeles Dodgers hats and gloves during the game against the Atlanta Braves at Dodger Stadium on March 31, 2025 in Los Angeles, Thursday, the Dodgers were involved in a trade where they shipped away just one player, catcher Hunter Feduccia, and acquired three more, two from the Tampa Bay Rays and one from the Cincinnati Reds. Jim Bowden of The Athletic was a big fan of the trade, and lauded decision-maker Andrew Friedman for pulling the trigger on Monday. "Most creative executive: Dodgers president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman, who once again won a three-way trade, this time with the Rays and Reds, that netted Los Angeles lefty Adam Serwinowski, righty Paul Gervase and catcher Ben Rortvedt," wrote Bowden. Gervase and Rortvedt were the two players that arrived in the deal from Tampa Bay, while Serwinowski came from the Reds. There were only three others involved: Feduccia, who went to the Rays alongside ex-Reds right-handed pitcher Brian Van Belle, and right-handed pitcher Zack Littell, who went from Tampa Bay to Cincinnati. Got all that? It's certainly not a trade the Dodgers made with the goal of drastically improving their World Series odds in the here and now, but it gave them two new pitchers that could amount to something eventually in exchange for slightly downgrading their third-string catcher spot. Only history will determine whether the Dodgers "won the trade," but it certainly makes sense from a logical perspective. Speedway Classic, despite logistical issues, broke attendance mark that stood since '54
The Speedway Classic between the Atlanta Braves and Cincinnati Reds sold more than 85,000 tickets, a record for an MLB regular-season game, though the event was marred by logistical challenges. The official number of tickets sold for the game, which was scheduled for Saturday and completed Sunday after an inclement weather postponement, was 91,032. The previous milestone for most regular-season game tickets sold was 84,587 set on Sept. 12, 1954, in a contest between Cleveland and the New York Yankees. Advertisement A preseason game between the Los Angeles Dodgers and Boston Red Sox at Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum on March 29, 2008, holds the record for MLB single-game attendance with 115,300 tickets sold. Fans at Bristol Motor Speedway in Tennessee on Saturday encountered logistical issues at the venue. Many concession stands ran out of food during the first rain delay, which lasted two hours and 17 minutes. A Reds fan who spoke to The Athletic on Saturday night said it was 'the worst logistical experience,' and, 'They ran out of food and beer, and the fan zone was underwhelming.' Many took to Twitter to decry the circumstances, including longtime trial lawyer Lester Tate, who once served as president of the State Bar of Georgia. 'The Bristol game was the MLB version of Fyre Fest,' he wrote. Fox Sports' Kevin Burkhardt also commented on the lack of food, saying on air, 'We're out of food, so it's really panic time,' according to the Cincinnati Enquirer. The venue's communications department announced early Sunday that fans could bring in outside food and non-alcoholic beverages after not being allowed to do so on Saturday. The Braves won, 4-2. Stopped at a gas station near Bristol Motor Speedway and inside there is a line of Braves and Reds fans buying food and drinks to bring in with them to watch the #SpeedwayClassic25 .Since they ran out of concessions last night, fans are allowed to bring in food today. — Alison Mastrangelo (@AlisonWSB) August 3, 2025 (Photo of Bristol Motor Speedway on Saturday: Jamie Squire / Getty Images)
