Mathura man supplied drones to Naxals to keep eye on security forces: NIA
A Mathura man, who was arrested in Delhi on June 29 by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) for his links with the banned CPI (Maoist), supplied drones to Naxalites and trained them to operate the equipment and keep watch on security forces' activities in the forest areas of Bihar, Jharkhand and Odisha, NIA officials privy to the investigation confirmed. For representation only During interrogation, the man identified as Vishal Singh revealed he had been supplying drones and providing operational training in dense forests for the past seven years, the officials said. The officials confirmed that Vishal Singh, the key accused in the revival of a CPI (Maoist) Northern Region Bureau (NRB), had delivered drones to leaders of the banned outfit in the Chhakarbanda- Pachrukhiya forest area of Bihar. Singh had imparted technical training to cadres of CPI (Maoist) and had also attended meetings with its central committee members deep in the forest areas of Bihar in 2019, the officials further said. NIA officials stated that Vishal Singh acted as a clandestine service provider, largely maintaining a normal life in Delhi. They added that Singh kept abreast of the latest technology while in the national capital and improvised it for the benefit of Naxalite groups operating in dense forest areas. The NIA is investigating the case and probing the extent of Vishal Singh's involvement with the CPI (Maoist). The agency is also examining the digital evidence seized during search operations to uncover more details about the organisation's activities and plans. The arrest highlights the ongoing efforts of the NIA to dismantle operations of banned terrorist organizations in the country. The NIA had confirmed that the agency seized digital devices, including hard drives, pen drives and mobile phones, as well as other incriminating material, during a search at Singh's West Delhi house. In August 2024, the NIA had arrested another accused, Ajay Singhal alias Aman, who was in charge of the Haryana and Punjab state organising committee of CPI (Maoist). The case relates to the terrorist organisation's conspiracy to revive its waning influence in the Northern Regional Bureau (NRB) area, officials said.

Women police personnel are an integral part of policing in T.N.: police department
Following the furore caused by Additional Director-General of Police-Law and Order (ADGP-L&O) Davidson Devasirvatham's advisory to avoid posting female police officers on important security duty, the Office of Director-General of Police (DGP) on Saturday issued a clarification stating that women police personnel were an integral part of policing in Tamil Nadu. Women activists, educationists, lawyers, academicians, and writers had issued a statement expressing shock and condemnation over the advisory. They said it was widely reported in the media and seemed to have been issued in the backdrop of the custodial death of Ajith Kumar in Sivaganga. 'The Constitution of India clearly states that men and women are equal before law. Women cannot be discriminated against and denied opportunities or assignments, merely on the basis of their sex. Excluding women from positions of responsibility amounts to discrimination and is strongly condemnable,' they said, while urging Mr. Davidson to retract his statement. The Office of DGP, in its clarification, said during the recent video conference with officers from districts and cities on June 30, the ADGP-L&O had advised them against deploying a lot of women police personnel for bandobust duties. The instruction was made in view of the need for women police personnel in the investigation and prosecution of cases under the POCSO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences) Act and crimes against women and children, it said. As per law, it is mandatory to file the final reports in POCSO cases within 60 days, and the pendency in such cases requires immediate attention. The primary objective was to ensure that women police personnel, who play an indispensable role in investigating crimes against women and children, were not posted elsewhere, the statemen said. It also clarified that women police personnel were an integral part of policing in Tamil Nadu. Women police personnel are deployed for bandobust duties, and they will continue to be used, wherever necessary. The police department said it was to be understood that as per law, certain tasks in policing should be carried out by women police personnel only, such as arresting women, enquiring and recording the statements of women accused or witnesses or children, and managing women in crowds during bandobust duty.

Rayachoti: The Andhra Pradesh police on Saturday identified one of the two terror suspects arrested here recently by Tamil Nadu police as a "big fish", with advanced bomb making skills. Kurnool Range Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police Koya Praveen said Abubacker Siddique operated as a lone wolf, providing his terror expertise to those who shared his radical ideology and was influenced by radical fugitive preacher Zakir Naik. "This fellow (Siddique) whom we caught is too big a fish than what we had fellow is too big a fellow, who had travelled all across the length and breadth of this country. Who frequently travelled to the Gulf also, Abubacker Siddique," Praveen told PTI. Recently, Tamil Nadu's Anti-Terrorism Squad arrested Siddique and his accomplice Mohammed Ali in Rayachoti in Annamayya district. "Zakir Naik school of thought. He is more of a lone wolf. Ideologically motivated and an expert in making IEDs and electronic devices, timer explosive devices," said Praveen. According to police, Siddique is an expert maker of improvised explosive devices (IEDs), timer explosive devices and other highly lethal materials. Police conducted a fresh round of searches today at the duo's premises, but did not find any explosives. They managed to confiscate some documents and pen drives. Earlier, police recovered daggers, sickles, digital timers, clock switches, speed controllers, ball bearings, nuts and bolts, binoculars, walkie-talkies, mobile phones, and hacking software. They also seized maps of major Indian cities, coding manuals, ISIS-inspired literature, property documents, digital storage devices, cheque books, and financial records linked to suspicious transactions. On July 3, police disposed of a parcel bomb seized from them. After settling in Rayachoti, the DIG noted that Siddique, who is in his mid-50s, had carried out the bomb blast at BJP's Malleshwaram office in Bengaluru. Siddique was allegedly involved in the 2011 pipe-bomb planting attempt during BJP veteran and former Deputy Prime Minister L K Advani's rath yatra in Tamil Nadu's Madurai, among other terror activities.
