Vampire Diaries Boss Julie Plec Still Has Ideas for Another Spinoff: ‘All Anybody Has to Do Is Ask'
Following the 2022 series finale of The CW's Legacies, it's now been three years since fans have gotten to enjoy anything new set in the world of The Vampire Diaries — and that's three years too many, if you ask us.
Naturally, we took our concerns to former Vampire Diaries showrunner Julie Plec, who's currently promoting her new Prime Video series We Were Liars. Here's what she told us: 'I have had ideas for more Vampire Diaries stories since we were doing the last Vampire Diaries story. All anybody has to do is ask, and I will be there.'

We had previously asked Plec about continuing the franchise when Legacies ended in 2022, and her answer at the time wasn't entirely dissimilar to this latest response.
'There's absolutely hope for the future,' Plec told us three years ago. 'Brett [Matthews] and Kevin [Williamson] and I have an idea percolating in our brains that we just haven't had the time to put down on the page yet. But we definitely want to do another branch of the tree. It's just a matter of when, I guess.'
Based on books by L. J. Smith, The Vampire Diaries aired for eight seasons (2009–2017) on The CW, telling the story of undead brothers Stefan (Paul Wesley) and Damon Salvatore (Ian Somerhalder), whose lives were ruled by their shared obsession with vampire Katherine and her human doppelgänger Elena (both played by Nina Dobrev).
The franchise expanded in 2013 with The Originals, a New Orleans-set spinoff about the world's oldest family of vampires, led by Klaus Mikaelson (Joseph Morgan). When The Originals concluded its five-season run in 2018, the franchise returned to Mystic Falls for Legacies, which followed Klaus' daughter Hope (Danielle Rose Russell) as she enrolled in a supernatural boarding school.
Unfortunately, Legacies became one of many casualties when Nexstar Media Group gained a majority stake in The CW in 2022, causing the series to end after just four seasons. All told, The Vampire Diaries, The Originals and Legacies aired a combined 331 episodes across 17 seasons from 2009 to 2022.
Are you hoping for an eventual return to Mystic Falls, or wherever else in the world there are smoldering vampires with stories to tell? If so, which characters from the previous three shows would you like to see the most? Drop a comment with your thoughts below.

Blue Ivy Carter Shows Off Makeup Skills on Tina Knowles
THE RUNDOWN On Thursday, Tina Knowles posted a short video clip that showed off her granddaughter's skills with a makeup brush. Blue Ivy Carter is known for being a fabulous dancer, accompanying her mother, Beyoncé, on the stage during her Renaissance and Cowboy Carter tours. But she apparently has many other talents as well. The clip is a close up look at Knowles's face as Blue Ivy applies red lipstick with a brush, displaying her own red, white, and blue manicure. She then pulls her hand away, giving a clear look at the perfect beat. In the caption, Knowles wrote, 'Today I wanted to attend the @bluemarbleparis runway show to see my grandson @iamjulezjsmith walk in the show! ! I did not have a Makeup Artist so I asked my talented granddaughter Blue Ivy to do my make up. She did a fabulous job. ❤️❤️ what yal think?' Blue's little sister, Rumi, has recently been joining her and Beyoncé on stage as well. Knowles celebrated an adorable moment between Rumi and a fan on her Instagram timeline, showing a clip of Rumi reacting to a giant Stitch plushie being waved in her direction from the audience. The little girl was super excited to see one of her favorite characters. 'Rumi loves Stitch so much !!!! She walked into the dressing room with this big stitch hugging it almost every day ! How did this person in the audience know??????? Wow it made her very happy ! ❤️❤️❤️' Knowles wrote over the adorable moment. She also shared side-by-side pics of Beyoncé and Blue Ivy 25 years apart, drawing a comparison between the mom and daughter to show how similar they are. In the caption, she wrote, 'My babies twinning❤️' One of the pictures appears to be of Blue Ivy on stage during a Cowboy Carter concert, in which she is wearing a classic cowboy hat.

Inside Rihanna and Son Riot's Big Night at A$AP Rocky's AWGE Fashion Show
THE RUNDOWN On Friday, Rihanna supported her partner, A$AP Rocky, at his AWGE fashion show during Paris Men's Fashion Week. By her side all night was their youngest son, Riot Rose, looking as fashionable as his mom and dad. The two parents have a second son, RZA, and are expecting a third child. As always, Rihanna leaned into her unique maternity style, wearing a loose button-down shirt in a blue and red stripe pattern that opened over her belly. She paired it with a pleated black miniskirt, accessorizing with white pointed-toe heels with criss-crossed laces over tall gray socks. She left her long hair down in gentle waves and wore a number of different chains and pendants of different lengths. Riot was wearing purple joggers and a denim jacket featuring a Harley Davidson and American flag patch over a white T-shirt. On his feet were a pair of black, red, and white Vans sneakers. The proud mom kept her son on her knee in the front row throughout the show. Before the family night, Rihanna and Rocky were seen at Dior's Homme men's spring 2026 show, again seated in the front row. Rihanna wore a black cape-style coat covered in gorgeous embroidery, over a pale green vest and white button-down. She paired it with gray pants and accessorized with yellow sunglasses and jewelry pieces by Briony Raymond and Marlo Laz. Rocky wore a bright red, green, and blue tie over a gray button-down and a pair of jeans, carrying a tan bag covered in fringe tassels. The couple confirmed their third pregnancy at the Met Gala in May. Rihanna told Entertainment Tonight at the time, 'I'm good. I'm shockingly feeling OK and not too overwhelmed at the moment. I mean, at first it was kinda like, 'Ah!' And I'm tired, but then I'm excited.'

Matlock Duo Sing Us a Li'l Something, Rave That ‘Everyone' Now Wants to Appear on the CBS Hit — WATCH
Matlock co-stars Skye P. Marshall and Jason Ritter make a bit of beautiful music together at the top of the TVLine red carpet video above. After harmonizing a few bars and then amazingly speaking in totally perfect unison, the on-screen exes got to revisiting some of the freshman CBS hit's biggest twists. 'There were no other actors, it was just me and Kathy Bates in the room,' the actress tells TVLine West Coast Bureau Chief Dave Nemetz in the video above. 'I just had to breathe outside of that [office] door, and every time I walked in was very much, 'Don't try to nail it, just be honest. Just listen to what she's saying and respond wholeheartedly.'' As Marshall notes, 'It's the not acting, that's what makes great performances.' Matlock Boss Talks Finale's Big Reveal, If [Spoiler] Will Be Back for Season 2 View List Ritter then steps up to survey Julian's 'incredibly complicated relationship' with his father, Senior, who 1) passed Julian over for a promotion to partner 2) years after tasking him with stealing a legal document that was damning for Welbrexa, Jacobson Moore's Big Pharma client. 'As much as Senior drives him crazy, as much as he's been hurt by Senior, I think there's a part of [Julian] that still would love Senior to say, 'I'm proud of you, son,' one time,' Ritter posits. But will that longing for approval get in the way of Julian possibly allying with Olympia and Matty to pin the Welbrexa cover-up on Senior in Season 2? 'It's going to be fascinating seeing what happens next season,' Ritter ventures. 'I can't wait to see what the writers come up with.' To hear Marshall tell it, scores of other actors also would love to wield the Matlock writers' words, coming off the not-a-reboot's success as the TV season's most-watched new program. Whereas everyone, when the show was first announced in spring 2024, mocked the need for a 'reboot' of the late-1980s Andy Griffith courtroom drama, 'Now everyone's like, 'Can I please get on Matlock?!' says Marshall. 'Matlock means something completely different now, in such a short time,' she attests. Showrunner Jennie Snyder Urman 'flipped' the script on everyone, while executive producer Eric Christian Olsen, who had rights to Matlock and brought them to Urman, 'hit a lottery,' Marshall marvels. 'He built a universe for us and brought all of us together. I feel like we're the Avengers!' Want scoop on , or for any other TV show?
