Rain fury: Over 30 villages in Banaskantha put on alert, 350 people relocated

While two deaths were reported in Jamnagar district more than 30 villages in Dhanera and Tharad talukas along the Rail river in Banaskantha have been put on alert as the district received heavy rainfall on Wednesday and Thursday. Also, 19 panchayat roads were closed in the district.
Two male labourers from Madhya Pradesh died after lightning strike on Thursday in Sevak Dhuniya village in Lalpur taluka of Jamnagar district, Jamnagar collector K B Thakkar told The Indian Express adding that two others were taken to the district hospital for treatment after sustaining burns.
Banaskantha Collector Mihir Patel told The Indian Express that 350 people were relocated from villages of Palanpur taluka in Banaskantha district on Thursday.
In the last 24 hours ending at 5 pm on Thursday, Vadgam, Palanpur and Dantiwada talukas received 8.6 inch, 6.1 inch and 6 inch of rainfall, respectively.
'All schools in talukas of Palanpur, Vadgam, Dhanera, Amirgadh and Deesa were closed on Thursday. No casualty, however, was reported. The situation is under control,' Patel also said.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert in Banaskantha for July 6, along with Sabarkantha and Aravalli.
As per an IMD forecast, while the state is expected to receive heavy rainfall till July 9, an orange alert has been issued in the districts of Sabarkantha and Aravalli for July 5 and Navsari and Valsad for July 7 and 8.
Districts of Banaskantha and Sabarkantha received heavy rainfall till 6 pm on Thursday. While Idar in Sabarkantha recorded 5.5 inch (140 mm) of rainfall, Dhanera recieved 116 mm, Dantiwada 81 mm, Vadgam 81 mm, Palanpur in Banaskantha district received 63 mm.
Other districts in Saurashtra region including Rajkot, Jamnagar, Surendranagar, Botad and Junagadh received heavy rainfall on Thursday. In theses dictricts, Jamkandorna recieved 110 mm rainfall, Dhoraji 83 mm, Jodiya 101 mm, Lalpur 86 mm, Chuda 84 mm, Wadhwan 78 mm, Bhiloda 67 mm, Vadnagar 65 mm, Jetpur 64 mm, Rajkot 62 mm, Ranpur 58 mm, Kalavad 57 mm.
As per the IMD, the state continues to be on alert owing to the 'monsoon trough that continues to pass through Bikaner, Sheopur, Khajuraho, Daltonganj, Digha and thence east southeastwards to northeast Bay of Bengal, cyclonic circulation over central parts of west Rajasthan, trough from northeast Arabian sea to northwest Bay of Bengal across Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, the cyclonic circulation over north Odisha adjoining Gangetic west Bengal between tilting south-westwards'.

Delhi-NCR witnessed a sudden change in weather on July 4 morning, fresh spells of rain are likely today. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued orange alert for a total of 13 states, including Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Odisha, Goa, Karnataka, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Mizoram, Manipur, Nagaland, Meghalaya and Tripura. IMD in its latest weather report stated, 'Light/moderate rainfall at most places accompanied with thunderstorm, lightning and isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall likely to continue over Northeast India during next 7 days with isolated extremely heavy falls over Meghalaya on 06th July.' The weather agency predicted 'heavy rainfall' in Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Rajasthan and Punjab till July 9. Meanwhile, in Haryana and Uttar Pradesh wet spells are likely between July 5 and 9; and in Jammu region between July 5 and 8. Weather bulletin dated July 3 further notes, 'Heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places likely over Konkan & Goa, Ghat areas of Madhya Maharashtra, Gujarat region and heavy rainfall over Saurashtra & Kutch" over the coming 6 days. Furthermore, 'isolated heavy rainfall' is likely in Kerala and Karnataka till July 6 while Coastal Karnataka may witness showers till July 9. In Delhi-NCR, no weather warning is in place for July 4, but a yellow alert has been issued for Saturday. On Friday, the maximum temperature is expected to settle around 36 and 38 degrees Celsius while the minimum temperature will most likely hover around 26 and 28 degrees. According to IMD's nowcast warning issued at 5:30 AM, light rainfall is likely over several parts of Delhi in the next 2 hours, including parts of Central, North and East Delhi.

IMD has issued a yellow alert in Shimla, Solan and Sirmaur for moderate to heavy rainfall accompanied with thunderstorms and lightning for July 4. The Goa government has also announced a holiday for schools on Friday (July 4), citing the orange alert. The government urged students to stay indoors and avoid venturing into risky areas like flooded streets, riversides and 'other potentially hazardous locations,' ANI reported. Cloudy sky to prevail in Delhi For Delhi no rainfall alert has been issued as of now. For today, IMD has predicted partly cloudy sky with very light to light rain. Maximum and minimum temperatures are expected to hover around 37 degrees Celsius and 27 degrees Celsius. Meanwhile in the Delhi NCR areas a yellow alert has been issued for Faridabad and Gurgaon for thunderstorms along with lightning. For July 5 a yellow alert has been sounded for the entire Delhi and surrounding areas including Ghaziabad, Gautam Buddha Nagar and Gurgaon. Yellow alert in parts of Punjab and Haryana According to the Chandigarh regional Met Department, a yellow alert has been issued in some parts including in Gurdaspur, Hoshiarpur, Kapurthala, Pathankot and Rupanagar for heavy rainfall. No alert has been issued for Ludhiana, Bathinda, Muktsar and others. In the neighbouring parts of Haryana, a yellow alert has been issued in Ambala, Panchkula, Kurukshetra, Rewari and Palwal areas.
