CARROLLTON, Texas, US: Since joining LIV Golf, Patrick Reed has 11 top-5 finishes, including five podium results. He has also celebrated seven team victories with his 4Aces GC, including the inaugural 2022 Team Championship, and has twice finished inside the top six in the season-long points race.

But he has yet to win an individual LIV Golf title in his first 41 regular season starts, making him arguably the best league player without a win. And he has yet to win a professional tournament in his home state of Texas, where he was born and still lives.
Now he is 18 holes away from changing both narratives on Sunday at LIV Golf Dallas presented by Aramco.
Thanks to a solid 4-under 68 on a challenging Maridoe Golf Club course, Reed moved to 9 under and will take a 3-shot lead entering the final round. This is his first 36-hole lead since joining LIV Golf for the league's first US event in Portland in 2022.
'To get my first LIV victory as well as doing it in my home state would mean a lot,' said the Houston resident, who was born in San Antonio. 'But really, at the end of the day, instead of trying to focus on what happens on the 54th hole, it's stay in the moment. Stay in the present.'
His 4Aces team also hope to stay in the present as they seek a first victory since the 2023 tournament in London. The club, captained by Dustin Johnson, has a four-shot lead over Jon Rahm's Legion XIII and Bryson DeChambeau's Crushers GC, who have won the previous two LIV Golf team titles. No other team is within 13 shots of the lead.
Reed, meanwhile, has plenty of pursuers, many of whom — like Reed himself — are hungry to win their first individual LIV Golf title.
The Crushers' Paul Casey shot a 5-under 67 and is tied for second at 6 under with Fireballs GC's Abraham Ancer, who shot a second consecutive 69. In a four-way tie for fifth at 5 under are Cleeks GC's Richard Bland, Fireballs' David Puig, 4Aces' Harold Varner III and Legion XIII's Tyrrell Hatton, who produced the low round of the day with a 65. His captain Jon Rahm is alone in eighth at 4 under.
Four of the top seven players have yet to win an LIV Golf tournament — Reed, Casey, Bland and Puig. And Puig is the only player who ranks inside the top 20 in driving distance average this season. Maridoe, despite its 7,533-yard layout, is rewarding the shot-makers this week in the Texas heat.
'If you're not in the fairway, you're going to struggle,' Ancer said. 'You're going to make big numbers. Bogeys come really, really quickly, even if you're in the fairway.'
Ancer should know. He had a rollercoaster round that included seven birdies — including four in a row on his first nine — along with four bogeys and one up-and-down par after an approach shot bounced off the flagstick and rolled off the green at the eighth hole. 'I felt like I stayed in it mentally really well,' said the San Antonio resident.
Casey's round had less drama and ended on a high note with three consecutive birdies. Hatton's round, on the flip side, started with three straight birdies.
Reed also produced three consecutive birdies and was among the steadiest of performers, hitting 78 percent of his greens in regulation. His challenge on Sunday will be to stay focused on the task at hand.
'The golf game feels pretty solid,' Reed said. 'Everything seems to be tight and where I want it to be. The biggest thing is going out there and not trying to press, not trying to force anything and really just go out and try to win the day as if it's a Monday qualifier.'
And his chasers?
'Looking like the way he's playing, he's not going to go backwards,' Bland said. 'We've got to go get him.'

Semien Has RBI Single in 10th as Rangers Beat Mariners 3-2

Marcus Semien had an RBI single with the bases loaded in the 10th inning, and the Texas Rangers beat the Seattle Mariners 3–2 on Saturday. Mariners reliever Andrés Muñoz (3–1) hit Josh Smith with his first pitch after striking out Sam Haggerty to begin the 10th. Corey Seager–who homered in the third to give Texas a 2–1 lead–fell behind in the count 1–2 before working a walk to load the bases with one out for Semien. Semien fouled off fastballs from Muñoz reaching 100.2 mph and 99.7 mph before hitting the game-winner to right field on a 100.1 mph pitch with a full count. Shawn Armstrong (3–3) struck out two in a scoreless 10th for the win. Dominic Canzone led off the third with his fifth home run–a 425-foot shot to right field on an 0–2 pitch from Rangers rookie Kumar Rocker–to give the Mariners a 1–0 lead. J.P. Crawford had a two-out throwing error, and Seager followed with his ninth home run to give Texas the lead against Mariners starter Bryan Woo in the bottom of the inning. Randy Arozarena's RBI single in the sixth tied it 2–2. Woo pitched six innings and matched his career high with nine strikeouts for the second straight start. He gave up five hits and has pitched at least six innings in all 16 starts. Félix Hernández set the Mariners single-season record with 18 in 2014. Rocker allowed two runs and five hits in six innings with six strikeouts. He has allowed just four runs in his last three starts covering 16 1/3 innings. Texas has played four extra-inning games this season, with three coming in the last four games. Seattle won the series opener 7–6 in 12 innings Friday. Semien saw eight pitches in the 10th, and only one was slower than 99.4 mph. Seattle is 6–2 against Texas this season and has won 16 of the last 21 matchups. Mariners RHP Luis M. Castillo (4–5, 3.69 ERA) starts Sunday's finale against Rangers RHP Jack Leiter (4–5, 4.55).

Aldrich Potgieter, PGA Tour's Youngest Player and Biggest Hitter, Leads Rocket Classic by 2 Strokes

Aldrich Potgieter, the PGA Tour's youngest player and its biggest hitter, had five straight birdies to surge into the third-round lead and finished with a 7-under 65 on Saturday for a two-shot edge. The 20-year-old tour rookie started the week averaging 326.6 yards off the tee–several yards longer than Rory McIlroy–and will be shooting for his first win on tour Sunday. Max Greyserman (66), Jake Knapp (66), Mark Hubbard (67), Andrew Putnam (67), and Chris Kirk (69) were two shots back. Three more players were another stroke behind. Collin Morikawa, the highest-ranked player in the field at No. 5 in the world, shot a 68 to start the final round four shots back. Two years ago in Detroit, he was outlasted by Rickie Fowler in a playoff. Morikawa, a two-time major champion, has not won on the tour since October 2023 at the Zozo Championship in Japan. Potgieter was born in South Africa, moved to Australia when he was 8, and returned to South Africa at age 17 because the COVID-19 pandemic limited his chances to compete. In a nod to his native country, his white golf shoes have the South African flag on the outside of his heels. He won the British Amateur at the age of 17 and became the youngest Korn Ferry Tour winner last year, paving the way for him to become the second-youngest player to earn a PGA Tour card through the minor league just after his 20th birthday. The youngest was Jason Day, who was 19 in 2007. Potgieter was in a position to win earlier this year. He lost a playoff at the Mexico Open in February when Brian Campbell got a big break when his tee shot on the second extra hole went off a tree and back in play. He missed the next four cuts and seven of eight before he was tied for sixth at the Charles Schwab Challenge last month in his last PGA Tour start last month. While the Detroit Golf Club is one of the easiest courses on the PGA Tour, it will likely be challenging for the world's 123rd-ranked player to hold off the competition. Potgieter's driver certainly gives him a shot, but he also flashed some of his finesse during his birdie streak on the front nine in the third round. He opened with a birdie on a 35-foot shot from a bunker. His approach on the par-5 seventh was buried in the rough, pin high and 78 feet to the right of the cup. He lofted the ball past the hole, and it rolled back toward it, setting up an eight-foot birdie putt. At the 372-yard par-4 eighth hole, he waited for Kevin Roy and Michael Thorbjornsen to exit the green because he was going for it. Potgieter pulled out his driver and sent the ball over towering trees and through the green before it finally rested in the rough 374 yards from the tee. He went on to make an 11-foot putt for his fifth straight birdie and sixth of the afternoon to help him shoot a 30 on the front nine for a two-shot lead. He cooled off on the back nine with a birdie at No. 13 and lipping out on a 7-foot putt at the 14th, missing a chance to birdie the par 5 and closed with five pars in a row.
