Luuk de Jong puts Rangers on transfer red alert with latest twist as Peterborough chief eyes more Fernandez millions
Rangers have been handed a potential boost in pursuit of reported target Luuk de Jong.
The Light Blues have been credited with an interest in the veteran striker, who is out of contract at PSV Eindhoven, where he captained the side and scored 14 league goals in their Eredivisie title triumph last season.
de Jong, 34, is free to speak to other clubs but has been keeping fit with the Dutch champions until a final decision on his future has been made.
On Sunday, PSV boss Peter Bosz admits that they are no closer to agreeing an extension for the ex Barcelona and Newcastle forward who is yet to determine his next move.
And reports in the Netherlands now claim that the towering striker is one step closer to leaving PSV for good.
VandaagInside and several other outlets report that de Jong will not be a part of the squad that travel to Marienfeld in Germany today for a pre-season training camp.
Teammate Johan Bakayoko is also not making the trip amid strong reports in Germany that he is set to clinch a big money move to RB Leipzig.
PSV are already said to be working on bringing in a replacement for their captain should be decide to depart. The Eindhoven giants have been linked with Borussia Mochengladbach's French attacker Alassane Plea.
Meanwhile Rangers newboy Emmanuel Fernandez has been told that he will 'kill it' in the Scottish Premiership.
The 23-year-old defender completed a £3.5million switch from Peterborough United earlier this month and has already seen minutes for Russell Martin 's side in the friendly clashes against Club Brugge and Barnsley.
And Posh chairman Darragh MacAnthony reckons the Ibrox club have a real bargain on their hands.
Speaking on the UpThePosh podcast, he said: Rangers is one of the biggest clubs in Britain. I'm not a Rangers fan, but at the end of the day it is a massive football club.
"We knew Rangers were in for him. Russell had tipped off the manager that he was on their radar.
"(Director of Football) Barry (Fry) had been working on it for five weeks. But here's the thing, there was an Italian club that just got promoted from Serie B or whatever it's called that were also at the table bidding, in the many bidders.
"Here's what will blow your mind. A lot of recruitment now is data driven. If you look at the data sites and look at centre halves under 24 that have 68-plus percent aerial win rate, Manny is way up there.
"Throw in the fact people would watch the Everton game in the cup, the Birmingham game at Wembley. You look at Manny in those games.
"I think Manny will kill it in Scotland. I think Rangers have got a bargain and we'll make millions more."
