"A comrade-in-arms with Vaskar Nandy, the legendary Naxalite leader, Bharali was instrumental in formulating the line of PCC, CPIML on the vexed nationality question of Assam during the eventful days of the Assam movement," Sharma added.

Registrar row throws Kerala University into administrative chaos
Kerala University has plunged into an unprecedented administrative crisis as the bitter power struggle between the Syndicate and the Vice-Chancellor has led to the appointment of two Registrars, creating chaos and confusion within the institution. A day after the Syndicate reinstated Registrar K.S. Anil Kumar, interim Vice-Chancellor Ciza Thomas on Monday appointed Director (Planning and Development) Mini Dejo Kappen as Registrar through a separate order, as she remained firm on her stance that the Syndicate's decision was legally invalid. Dr. Kappen, who accepted the appointment, has been operating from a different room on campus. Joint Registrar replaced The crisis escalated further after the Vice-Chancellor replaced P. Harikumar as the Joint Registrar (Administration). Hema Anandan, Joint Registrar (Academic), has been appointed to the position following Mr. Harikumar's participation in the Syndicate meeting after being adjourned by Prof. Thomas. He also apparently failed to respond to an explanation sought by the Vice-Chancellor and went on leave. Governor seeks report The deadlock could further intensify with the intervention of Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar, who also serves as the Chancellor in the university, in the issue. Raj Bhavan sought a detailed report from the Vice-Chancellor regarding the chaotic developments and the Syndicate's decisions on Sunday. In her response, Prof. Thomas reportedly stated that the Syndicate's decision to revoke the suspension was illegal and lacked procedural validity. Higher Education Minister R. Bindu alleged that Vice-Chancellors, who have been appointed on temporary basis, have been overstepping their administrative boundaries without fully understanding the regulations governing their roles. Rather than fuelling controversies, the interim Vice-Chancellors must help the academic community move forward by acting with restraint and responsibility. General Education Minister V. Sivankutty blamed the Governor for the university's troubles, accusing him of interfering in administrative matters and misinterpreting the university Act. Activists of the Students Federation of India and Left-aligned service organisations held protests on the university campus against the 'autocratic behaviour' of Vice-Chancellor in-charge Mohanan Kunnummal, who is expected to return within a few days after a brief visit to Russia.

‘Minority rights are not charity, they are fundamental': Owaisi, Rijiju spar over minority benefits
HYDERABAD: AIMIM president Asaduddin Owaisi and Union Minister Kiren Rijiju on Monday engaged in a war of words on social media, with the former slamming the BJP leader over his statement that India is the only country where the minorities get more benefits and protections than the majority community, saying minority rights are fundamental rights, not charity. The Hyderabad MP, in a post on 'X', said, "You are a Minister of the Indian Republic, not a monarch.@KirenRijiju You hold a constitutional post, not a rights are fundamental rights, not charity." "India's minorities are not even second-class citizens anymore. We are hostages," Owaisi alleged. The AIMIM chief attacked Rijiju on the Waqf (Amendment) Act, and asked can Muslims be members of Hindu Endowment Boards? "No. But your Waqf Amendment Act forces non-Muslims onto Waqf Boards and allows them to form a majority." He further said the BJP-led central government "discontinued" the Maulana Azad National Fellowship, "defunded" the pre-matric scholarship and limited the post-matric and merit-cum-means scholarships. "All because they benefited Muslim students," he said. Owaisi said Muslims are now the only group whose numbers have fallen in higher education and their presence in the informal economy has gone up. "They have been among the worst-hit by your government's economic policies," he alleged. Muslim-concentrated areas are the ones most starved of public infrastructure and basic services, he claimed. "We are not asking to be compared with other minorities of other countries. We are not asking for more than what the majority community gets. We are demanding what the Constitution promises: social, economic, and political justice," Owaisi said.

Kim Soo Hyun Prevention Act: Press Ethics Committee warned 25 media outlets for reportage on it amid Kim Sae Ron dating row
The Kim Soo Hyun-Kim Sae Ron dating scandal escalated to the extent of a petition being filed to change to the current statutory s*xual crime laws of South Korea. Since the act was proposed following allegations of the actor being s*xually involved with an underage Kim Sae Ron, it was called the Kim Soo Hyun Prevention Act. However, noting the potential damage it could cause the actor, a warning was issued against the usage of his name for reportage. Media outlets asked not to use Kim Soo Hyun's name in reportage of petition for amendment of s*xual crime laws 25 media outlets covering the Kim Soo Hyun Prevention Act faced warning from the Korea Press Ethics Commission during their 997th meeting, as reported by K-media SBS Entertainment News on July 7. The Act aimed at raising the age of statutory r*pe for minors. The commission noted that using Kim Soo Hyun's real name in the article headlines could stigmatize him as a cr*minal, potentially causing emotional and mental harm to him, his family and fans. What laws did journalists breach while covering the Kim Soo Hyun Prevention Act? As per, the Korea Press Ethics Commission to the 25 media outlets faced the cautionary notice for breaching journalistic ethics. The outlets were found guilty of violating Article 10 (Principles of Titles) and Article 11 (Respect for Honor and Credit) by using titles that linked actor Kim Soo Hyun to unverified allegations. An example of a headline that was flagged as unethical by the commission is– "Kim Soo Hyun's grooming sexual crime against Kim Sae Ron, who was a minor, was revealed and angered the public." They emphasized that responsible journalism requires verifying claims before publishing them, especially when reporting on such sensitive topics. By failing to do so, the media houses compromised their responsibility to report accurately and fairly. The commission explained that 'citing the petitioner's one-sided claims as they are or using the bill title with Kim Soo Hyun's real name as the title of the article, raises concern that it may stigmatize the individual as a criminal when facts have not been confirmed.' This incident highlighted the importance of adhering to press ethics guidelines to prevent harm to individuals and communities.
