Watch: Patriots rookie Kyle Williams works out with All-Pro rival

USA Todaya day ago

New England Patriots rookie wide receiver Kyle Williams was seen working out against a potential future rival in the New York Jets' two-time All-Pro cornerback, Sauce Gardner.
A video was posted to athletic trainer Akil Bordelon's Instagram stories featuring Williams, Gardner, Miami Dolphins safety Ashton Davis and Patriots rookie wide receiver Jeremiah Webb. The work between Williams and Gardner could be a preview of the 2025 season with the Patriots and Jets squaring off twice on the regular season schedule.
Williams, who has received high praise since being drafted, was viewed as the best pure separator in the 2025 NFL draft class. Few could test him as well as Gardner, who is one of the best young corners in the league. Getting a good look at an elite opponent from another team can only mean good things for Williams.
Williams' trajectory is certainly promising, as he looks to make an impact early in his career. Training camp will be the real test with 12 players currently vying for a spot on the 53-man roster. How well can Williams stand out in the crowd?
The answer to that question will decide the trajectory of his rookie season.

NFL analyst's simple reason for projecting Patriots as top-five improved defense

ESPN analyst Marcus Spears believes the New England Patriots will have one of the top-five most improved defenses for the 2025 season. When asked to share his top-five most improved defenses, Spears had the Patriots ranked at No. 2 behind the Denver Broncos. He believes Mike Vrabel being named the new head coach is one of the biggest reasons why the Patriots will experience a significant turnaround in the 2025 season. 'Mike Vrabel is bringing back that old 'don't walk in here and think you aren't going to get your eye punched out.' … I love the mentality," Spears said on NFL Live, via ESPN's Mike Reiss. The Patriots have done more than enough to cause Spears and others to be bullish on them heading into the 2025 season. They've improved at every level defensively. They boosted the defensive front by signing defensive tackle Milton Williams and drafting Florida State rookie Joshua Farmer. At the middle level, they brought in veterans Robert Spillane and Jack Gibbens at linebacker, while signing K'Lavon Chaisson on the edge and drafting rookie Bradyn Swinson. In the defensive backfield, they signed standout veteran cornerback Carlton Davis III to play opposite of All-Pro corner Christian Gonzalez. The unit looks significantly better than it did last season, at least on paper. All of the pieces are there for the Patriots to field one of the best defensive units in the league this year. Steelers countdown to kickoff — No. 71: a history of the number and who wore it best

The Steelers countdown to kickoff is here — and we're at 71 days until Pittsburgh faces off against the New York Jets at MetLife Stadium. In the spirit of the countdown, we're taking a look at the history of No. 71 and the players who wore it best. Current Steelers No. 71 wearer: OG Aiden Williams Following the 2025 NFL Draft, Williams signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers as an undrafted free agent. He played six seasons for Minnesota-Duluth (2019–2024) and appeared in 40 games — starting all 40. According to the Steelers' official team website, Williams was named a 2024 AFCA First Team All-American, a 2024 Don Hansen NCAA DII Honorable Mention All-American, and a 2025 East-West Shrine Bowl invitee. Pittsburgh has found hidden gems at guard before — but for Williams to fit this trend, he'll have to compete with backup guards Max Scharping and Spencer Anderson for a roster spot. Last five Steelers to wear No. 71: Best No. 71 in Steelers history: OT Charlie Bradshaw Bradshaw is without a doubt the best Steeler to wear the No. 71 — earning two Pro Bowl selections during his time in Pittsburgh from 1961 to 1966. Bradshaw was the anchor at the offensive tackle position, playing in 82 games for Pittsburgh — 80 of which came as starts. He was ultimately named to the Pittsburgh Steelers Legends — a selection of the franchise's best players before the 1970s.

Robert Kraft makes promise to Patriots fans after three losing seasons

New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft made a promise to fans ahead of the 2025 NFL season. That promise comes on the heels of the team hiring Mike Vrabel as its new head coach and upgrading at various roster positions after back-to-back 4-13 regular season finishes. When appearing on The Adam Schefter Podcast, Kraft pointed to the team's active free agency and 2025 NFL draft as reasons for fans to be optimistic this year. 'We have a new coach in Mike Vrabel who is really connected with the players, who's doing great work," said Kraft. "We have a young quarterback and a lot of great veterans—free agent veterans who came in. A great draft class. We're gonna have fun this year, I promise.' There haven't been many reasons to be optimistic about the Patriots in recent years. They have not made the playoffs since the 2021 season, and they have endured losing records in three consecutive years. To take things a step further, they haven't even won a playoff game since their Super Bowl LIII victory over the Los Angeles Rams. There is a sense of change with the arrival of Vrabel and a more experienced coaching staff. Quarterback Drake Maye looks like he could be a future standout, and the team has done a much better job of surrounding him with the necessary talent to be successful. Perhaps this will be the year when the Patriots finally take flight. Follow Patriots Wire on Twitter and Facebook.
