Iconic car maker recalls over 14,000 motors due to ‘serious' fault that could see you lose control of brakes

OVER 14,000 vehicles have been recalled after a potentially dangerous fault was discovered.
The cars were found to have an underlying issue which could affect the brakes.

The issue has occurred in thousands of electric and plug-in hybrid Volvo vehicles across the US.
Volvo Car USA, LLC issued the safety recall due to a serious software defect.
It was concluded that this problem could potentially lead to a loss of brake function.
The issue is said to stem from the Brake Control Module, which can cause a failure in the braking system under specific driving conditions.
Therefore, this defect could significantly increase the risk of the vehicle crashing.
This recall impacts 14,014 select models from the years 2020 through 2026.
The two models recalled are the Battery Electric Vehicles (BEV) and Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles (PHEV).
It was found that a temporary loss of braking functionality may occur after coasting downhill for an extended period in certain driving modes.
Pressing the brake pedal after this occurs may then disable the brakes entirely.
This safety issue can occur when a vehicle is coasting downhill for at least one minute and 40 seconds.

It is specific to vehicles operating in 'One Pedal Drive' mode (for BEVs) or 'B' drive mode (for PHEVs) without the driver applying the brake or accelerator pedals.
It is significantly dangerous if the driver then presses the brake pedal, as this action may cause a complete loss of braking function, elevating the risk of a collision.
The root of the problem is attributed to Brake Control Module software version 3.5.14.
Volvo said it will provide a free software update for all affected vehicles.
Until the recall remedy is performed, owners are advised to avoid using the 'One Pedal Drive' and 'B' drive modes.

Owners of affected models will be officially notified by mail from Wednesday, August 6.
Volvo announced the recall population was traced to a specific software version released on April 25, 2025.
The recall covers a wide range of Volvo's electrified lineup:
2023-2024 C40 BEV, XC40 BEV, EC40, and EX40
2020-2025 XC90 PHEV
2022-2025 XC60 PHEV
2023-2025 S60 PHEV
2024-2025 V60 PHEV
2025 S90 PHEV
The remedy involves a software update, performed at no cost to the owner.
Owners who have already paid for repairs related to this issue may be eligible for reimbursement.
Dealers were notified of the recall on June 12, 2025.
And owners can check if their vehicle is included in the recall by entering their Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) on the NHTSA website after June 20, 2025.

Earlier this year the manufacturer announced 20,000 job losses, seven factory closures and a pause on all post-2026 new car development. It is all part of a restructuring project overseen by CEO Ivan Espinosa after he was appointed in April. Now, Reuters has reported that the major car manufacturer has asked suppliers to allow it to delay payments in an attempt to free up short-term cash. According to a source and emails seen by Reuters, Nissan has asked some suppliers in Britain and the European Union to accept delays in payments. This would give the company more cash on hand at the end of the April-June first quarter. Requests like this are not uncommon as a means of freeing up cash flow. In a statement, Nissan told The Sun: 'As we take quick actions under the Re:Nissan plan, we are leveraging the strong and flexible relationships we have built with our suppliers to ensure financial stability and maintain solid foundations for future success. 'With their full agreement, we have incentivised some of our valued suppliers to collaborate under more flexible payment terms, at no cost to them , in order to support free cash flow. 'As previously communicated, our cash position remains strong. We continue to cooperate with our valued suppliers across our operations, including in the UK, where we are looking forward together to the launch of the all-new Nissan LEAF and the arrival of our new e-POWER technology to Qashqai, the highest-volume car built in Britain.' While the deal could help the company in the short-term, they could be left with more to pay down the line. A source from the company told the reporter that June payments would be delayed until August 15, while some would be pushed until September. It is all part of Nissan's attempt to rebuild in light of their financial difficulties. The company hopes to have positive free cash flow by the 2026 financial year. In other emails, a director in the treasury department stated a target of freeing up $150million. Suppliers have allegedly been given two options. They can accept a delayed payment in return for a higher repayment with interest. Or they can be paid on time by HSBC, with Nissan paying the bank back with interest later. Nissan estimated that it could boost free cash flow by up to $59 million by extending payment terms. It comes as another major manufacturer has reported a loss on its Nissan Motor shares. Renault announced today that it will report a loss of about $11.2 billion in the first half after changing the way it accounts for the investment. After a two-decades long partnership, the French carmaker is trying to distance itself from the struggling business. Renault owns 35.7% of the company, and plans to assess changes in its value based on Nissan's share price, with no impact on its net income nor on dividends it pays out. Essentially, they are interested in how much the company is valued at, not its monetary worth.

Volkswagen Transporter BEV offers up to 8 seats and 196 miles of range
The new Volkswagen Transporter recently went on sale in diesel-powered Shuttle and Kombi form – and now you can add pure-electric power to the mix with the new BEV Transporter. Aimed at taxi companies, tradespeople and families with three or four children, the Transporter in Shuttle TDI diesel form starts at £48,775 for the entry-level Life edition, rising to £55,135 for the Style trim. The all-electric Transporter Life starts at £56,129 while the Style is priced from £62,957. Volkswagen claims a 196-mile range for the new electric Transporter in Kombi van form, or 194 miles in people-carrying Shuttle guise, thanks to a 65kWh battery. That's slightly down on the 209 miles offered by the Ford E-Transit, which is a sister model produced as part of Ford and Volkswagen's partnership. Advertisement - Article continues below That battery sends power to a rear-mounted 136bhp electric motor for a 12.8-second 0-62mph time. What's more important, however, is the charging time, which stands at 39 minutes for a 10 to 80 per cent top-up thanks to a maximum recharge speed of 125kW. The payload for the BEV Transporter Kombi van is 896kg. And like the diesel model, the electric Transporter comes with the option of short or long-wheelbase bodystyles and a choice of eight or nine-seat configurations. Skip advert Advertisement - Article continues below The TDI versions of the Transporter come with a 2.0-litre turbocharged diesel engine in either 148bhp or 167bhp form, paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission. There's also a 109bhp diesel available with a six-speed manual transmission, which in the short-wheelbase Transporter Shuttle will return 38.2mpg on the combined cycle, while the more powerful versions both return 34.9mpg. On top of the standard equipment the diesel-powered Transporter Life gets, the BEV adds all-season tyres, a heat pump, a tyre-sealant kit in place of a spare wheel, heated front seats, manually adjustable lumbar support and a Mode 3 charging cable with a storage bag. Style trim adds a leatherette-wrapped multifunction heated steering wheel. The standard equipment you'd find with Life trim on the Transporter Shuttle includes 16-inch alloy wheels, LED headlights, front and rear parking sensors including a reversing camera, cruise control and keyless start. The tech package features a dual-screen set-up that includes a 12-inch driver's display and a 13-inch touchscreen infotainment system, and no less than nine USB charging points. As for the Transporter Shuttle Style, that adds electric sliding doors, a heated windscreen, larger 17-inch wheels and manual sun shades in the second row. There's also a higher-spec set of LED headlights, and a range of high-end options including a Harmon Kardon sound system and a panoramic glass roof. The Transporter Kombi van starts at £42,220 in Commerce Plus form and also comes with a decent set of equipment, including LED lights, heated front seats and the same infotainment set-up as the Shuttle. The Commerce Pro trim (from £44,860) adds 16-inch alloy wheels, heated front seats, wireless mobile phone charging, air-conditioning, adaptive cruise control and front and rear parking sensors with a rear-view camera.
