Potential Yankees Trade Target Infielder Nearing Massive Home Run Milestone

Diamondbacks third baseman Eugenio Suarez has put together a very strong year as he nears his pending free agency.

Only a year removed from his fifth 30-home-run season, the veteran infielder has put together a strong 130 wRC+ and .836 OPS, his highest in a season since his 49 home-run 2019 campaign.
On multiple occasions, Suarez has been linked to the New York Yankees, and fits the bill for what the Yankees typically look for in trade deadline targets.
Entirely unrelated to the trade deadline, however, the 33-year-old slugger is nearing a very special milestone in his career.

Following his two-run home run on Thursday, which lifted Arizona to a 9-5 win over the Blue Jays at Rogers Centre, Suarez is now at 298 home runs over the course of his career.

MLB Trade Rumors noted that Suarez has 18 career multi-home-run games, including two this season, so the veteran could easily reach 300 home runs in one fell swoop, or over the course of two games.
Suarez has been oft linked to the New York Yankees, who are desperately in need of a third baseman once again due to Jazz Chisholm Jr.'s relative inexperience at the hot corner and lack of productivity at second base.
The addition of Suarez, assuming he doesn't go on a major home run drought, would give the Yankees their fourth 300+ career home run slugger, joining Aaron Judge, Giancarlo Stanton and Paul Goldschmidt.
The prevailing opinion around the league seems to be that the Diamondbacks, who have an embarrassment of riches in the infield, and have yet to give third base prospect Jordan Lawlar a lengthy stint in the pros, might deal Suarez to beef up their farm system.

With the Yankees lurking, could Suarez go on a tear to boost his trade stock heading into July?

Crucial Matt Chapman injury update surfaces before Giants-Dodgers game
The post Crucial Matt Chapman injury update surfaces before Giants-Dodgers game appeared first on ClutchPoints. The San Francisco Giants (40-29) have enjoyed a stirring first 69 games to their 2025 MLB campaign, and they have done so by understanding their identity. Top-notch pitching and timely hitting put this team in position to grab first place in the National League West, which it can do by overpowering the Los Angeles Dodgers (41-28) this weekend. However, the offensive component of that aforementioned blueprint is much harder to execute without Matt Chapman. Advertisement The five-time Gold Glove third baseman (two-time platinum winner) is currently on the injured list after jamming his right hand while sliding back into first base in a June 8 win versus the Atlanta Braves. He sprained ligaments in three of his fingers and incurred a bone bruise in his hand. Chapman is unlikely to return by June 20, which is when he is first eligible to come off the IL, but fans may not have to wait too much longer beyond that date to see him back in action. Chapman met with Doctor Steven Shin in LA on Friday and received encouraging feedback. He is apparently progressing nicely through his recovery and is in line to begin rehab exercises in roughly a week, per the San Francisco Chronicle's Susan Slusser. Dr. Shin advises that the 32-year-old slugger keeps his splint on until that time. Giants will try to string together enough runs without one of their big bats Although the Giants obviously wish Matt Chapman was active for a highly-anticipated divisional clash with the Dodgers, this latest piece of information suggests he could gain clearance before July. With the lineup posting bottom-third production in several categories, his value is extremely important. Advertisement Chapman has a team-high 12 home runs and is slashing .243/.360/.452/.812 through 65 games. Unsurprisingly, he is also playing excellent defense at the hot corner. San Francisco manager Bob Melvin counts on him to stabilize the offense. Apart from the 2014 first-round draft pick, the team's only other player with an .800-plus OPS is Heliot Ramos. The Giants got by just fine without Chapman against the unbelievably dreadful Colorado Rockies, but outscoring LA could be an extremely arduous challenge. They will trust ace Logan Webb to set the tone on Friday night in Dodger Stadium. Rare Tim Lincecum sighting sends Giants fans into frenzy
The post Rare Tim Lincecum sighting sends Giants fans into frenzy appeared first on ClutchPoints. San Francisco Giants fans are not happy with manager Bob Melvin after his optimistic take following a brutal series sweep at the hands of the Miami Marlins. Frustration is mounting in San Francisco as the team has struggled over the last two weeks. Perhaps the only thing that could lift Giants fans' spirits at the moment is a Tim Lincecum update. Fortunately, we got one. Advertisement An official Tim Lincecum sighting was announced by Giants reporter Steven Rissotto on X. The franchise legend popped up in a Bay Area subreddit post. The user shared a photo of the four-time All-Star, writing, 'Stepmom saw this guy and says 'you look like Tim Lincecum!'' And the former ace reportedly responded, 'Cuz I am.' Tim Lincecum is still beloved by Giants fans Frank Victores-Imagn Images Lincecum was a force of nature in his early years with the Giants. He earned the nickname 'The Freak' for his uncanny ability to throw upper 90s heat despite his slight build. He led the National League in strikeouts three straight seasons, from 2008-2010, topping out at an MLB-best 265 Ks in 2008. Advertisement Timmy won back-to-back Cy Young Awards in 2008 and 2009 and, when it seemed his career was on a downturn, he threw his first no-hitter in 2013. Then he threw a second no-hitter in 2014. And, of course, Lincecum won three World Series titles with the Giants, in 2010, 2012 and 2014. He made two starts and five appearances in the Fall Classic, posting a 2-0 record with a 2.25 ERA, 0.800 WHIP and 23 strikeouts in 20 innings. Despite his short reign as baseball's most dominant pitcher, Lincecum holds a special place in Giants fans' hearts. And while he's kept a low profile since he last appeared in the majors with the Los Angeles Angels in 2016, a Lincecum sighting tends to get the Bay Area fanbase excited. And The Freak still looms large in Giants franchise history. After Robbie Ray's blazing-hot start in 2025 he became the first San Francisco pitcher to go 5-0 in the first eight starts of a season since Lincecum did it in 2010. Cooper Flagg names Caitlin Clark to his WNBA Mount Rushmore: 'Changed the game'
Caitlin Clark might only be in her second season in the WNBA, but what she's already done for women's basketball is enough for Cooper Flagg to place her on his Mount Rushmore. During his introductory press conference after being selected first overall by the Dallas Mavericks on Wednesday night, the Duke product was asked what players were on his NBA and WNBA Mount Rushmore. Flagg rattled off Larry Bird, Michael Jordan, LeBron James and Kobe Bryant as his top picks in the NBA. For the women's game, he named Candace Parker, Brittney Griner and A'ja Wilson. For his last pick in the WNBA, Flagg named the Indiana Fever star and qualified his pick, saying that he believes she's earned that spot because of her impact on women's basketball. "I might put Caitlin Clark on there, just because she's changed the game so much and it's heading in the right direction," he told reporters Friday. "I just love what she's been able to do." Clark was the first overall pick in the 2024 WNBA Draft following a standout career at Iowa. She had an immediate impact in the pros, helping the Fever make a playoff appearance for the first time since 2016. She was named WNBA Rookie of the Year in a season that saw record viewership and attendance. The viewership boost includes fans like Flagg. "Honestly, it means a lot to me, seeing how far they have come, and I am going to continue to watch," Flagg said while attending the Dallas Wings home game against the Fever on Friday night. "I am a big fan, so it's really cool to just be here and be in this environment and get to watch a great game." Clark was sidelined from Friday's matchup, missing her second straight game due to a groin injury. The Fever still outlasted the Wings in the 94-86 victory, where Paige Bueckers, the first overall pick in the 2025 WNBA Draft, dropped 27 points.
