Pop icon's daughter says her dead pets will haunt Richard Gere for 'breaking promise' on $10million childhood home

Pop icon's daughter says her dead pets will haunt Richard Gere for 'breaking promise' on $10million childhood home

Daily Mail10-07-2025
Paul Simon's singer daughter has lashed out at actor Richard Gere for selling her $10million childhood home to real estate developers who plan to demolish the 1930s mansion to build a plot of new homes.
Lulu Simon, 30, took to Instagram on Tuesday to blast Gere, 75, for allegedly renegging on a promise he made to her family to 'take care of land' when he bought the New Canaan, Connecticut, property from the Simon & Garfunkel musician and his wife Edie Brickell in 2022.
'Just in case anyone was wondering if I still hate Richard Gere – I do!' Lulu wrote in a post in all caps, accompanied by a selfie and a screen shot of a news article about the home being torn down despite backlash from preservationists.
She claimed that looking after the land was a 'condition' of Gere's purchase but did not share any further details about the alleged agreement.
'He bought my childhood home,' she continued. 'Promised he would take care of the land as condition of his purchase. Proceeded to never actually move in & just sold it to a developer as nine separate plots… Hate! Him!'
In a second post, Lulu issued the Pretty Woman actor a chilling warning.
'I hope my dead pets buried in that backyard haunt you until you descend into a slow and unrelenting madness.'
The caption was displayed alongside an old photo of Gere, edited onto a collage depicting some of her late pets.
A third post followed, which consisted of a meme of a frog sitting in front of a colorful sky along with the caption, 'Time will put your enemies in the ground.'
The posts were eventually deleted around 18 hours after they were published, according to Realtor.
A representative for Gere has not yet responded to a DailyMail.com request for comment.
The Chicago star bought the six-bedroom, seven-bathroom home from Simon and Brickell for $10.8 million, and sold it for $10.75 million in an off-market deal to real estate developers in October 2024.
Then, in May, it was revealed the historic home was scheduled for demolition in order to make way for a nine-property development on the site.
That news came after Gere and his wife, 42-year-old Spanish publicist Alejandra Gere, relocated to Madrid so the pair and their children could be closer to her family.
The couple share sons Alexander, 6, and James, 5. Alejandra is also mom to son, Albert, 11, with ex-husband Govind Friedland, while Gere shares son Homer, 25, with ex-wife Carey Lowell.
'For Alejandra, it will be wonderful to be closer to her family, her lifelong friends and her culture,' Gere told Vanity Fair Spain in April 2024.
'She was very generous in giving me six years living in my world, so it is only fair that I give her at least another six living in here.'
Alejandra later shared they plan on moving back to the US in a 'few years.'
Like Gere, Paul Simon also made a loss when he sold the property.
The Sound of Silence troubadour bought the home with Brickell in 2002 for $16.5million, according to Town & Country.
They attempted to sell the Georgian-style estate in 2019 for $13.9million but a buyer was not forthcoming.
The asking price fluctuated for the next three years before Gere purchased the 31.8 acre plot in 2022.
Gere had originally sought to convert the majority of the land into a farm.
During a 2023 Planning and Zoning Commission meeting, Gere's lawyer David Rucci assured the commission that the historical property would not be turned into commercial real estate.
'I have received phone calls from four or five neighbors [who were] very concerned… if this was going to be some sort of big commercial operation, and it's really not,' Rucci said at the time, according to the N ew Canaan Advertiser.
'The owners… they both have grown up on farms, they're very interested in farms and teaching their kids about farms…so this is really important to them.'
Although the property is now destined for demolition, salvage experts from York-based Hudson Valley House Parts have worked to extract some of the home's architectural gems to be repurposed.
The company shared an Instagram Reel in May, showing off the sprawling property and some of the historic elements they were able to save.
'For the past month we have been fascinated by this estate as our team has been working on location salvaging many architectural elements,' the company wrote.
'Formerly owned by Richard Gere who purchased the property from Paul Simon and Edie Brickell, this 1930s home is scheduled for demolition with the intention of dividing the 32 acres into nine large lots.'
The lots will range between 2.2 and 4.8 acres. They will be sold empty, giving buyers the chance to build their dream homes from the ground up, CT Insider reported.

Deion Sanders ends interview abruptly after Karreuche Tran question amid rumors he's dating Chris Brown's ex

Deion Sanders was in no mood to discuss rumors that he is dating Karreuche Tran after being grilled about his love life during a podcast appearance this week. The Colorado football coach and NFL legend, 57, has been linked romantically to Tran, 37, ever since they were spotted on a lunch date together earlier this year. And following his revelation last week that he recently had his bladder removed after being diagnosed with cancer, Sanders' apparent new flame was seen by his side at the hospital in a vlog from the day of his surgery. The video - shared last week on his family's YouTube channel, 'Well Off Media' - captures him sitting in a hospital room before undergoing the procedure with an emotional Tran right next to him. The stunning actress and model, who previously dated Chris Brown , was visibly upset in the clip as she explained what Deion was about to go through and why. Her appearance at the hospital only fueled speculation that she is dating Sanders, who hilariously ended an interview early this week when asked about Tran. Deion Sanders dodges question about Karrueche, claims bad connection, and quickly hangs up. (🎥: Say What Needs To Be Said/YouTube) — The Art Of Dialogue (@ArtOfDialogue_) August 1, 2025 During an appearance on the 'Say What Needs To Be Said' podcast with former NFL player Asante Samuel, the two-time Super Bowl champion was asked about the nature of their relationship after she was seen by his side in the vlog. 'Don't kill the messenger,' Samuel said at the end of the interview. 'Everyone seen Karrueche Tran by your side during your hospital visit. Everyone wants to know what that friendship is.' Sanders then jokingly pretended his connection was cutting out in a bid to dodge the question, before closing his computer and ending the call. Samuel burst into laughter before going on to praise him for his leadership and wisdom. Tran's most famous previous relationship came when she began dating R&B icon Brown back in 2011, before they briefly split when he reconnected with his ex-girlfriend Rihanna a year later. In 2013 the pair rekindled their romance for another two years, only for it to end on a sour note when Brown was accused of sending her threatening text messages and voicemails. A judge granted Tran a five-year restraining order against him in 2017 after she shared evidence of the messages in court, while she also alleged that he punched her in the stomach twice and pushed her down the stairs. She also briefly dated Migos rapper Quavo, which came before a longer-term relationship with former NFL star Victor Cruz from 2017-21. As for Sanders, he has been married twice to first wife Carolyn Chambers, with whom he had daughter Deiondra and son Deion Jr, before tying the knot again with Pilar Biggers-Sanders - the mother of sons Shilo and Shedeur as well as another daughter in Shelomi. Following his divorce from Pilar, Deion was also previously engaged to Tracey Edmonds before they called it off in 2019. In a press conference with his doctor last week, Sanders shared that he is now cancer-free after having his bladder removed earlier this year.

Trump evicts his own wife in White House ballroom blitz

Melania Trump will need to find new office space after her husband's plans take over the White House CHIP SOMODEVILLA/GETTY IMAGES It may be hard to imagine, but Donald Trump's plans for a new ballroom in the White House might be less than romantic. The list of people being evicted by the project in the building's east wing happens to include his wife. Melania will need new office space in Washington, which is a shame as her reading of the news from Ukraine has made her one of the president's more effective foreign policy advisers. In fact, there is fresh evidence of Mr Trump's need for help with foreign affairs. His administration has said 'upwards of 200 countries' contacted them about tariffs, which must be news to the US State Department as their website only lists 197 independent states. Perhaps Trump is including uninhabited Antarctic territories which he has also tariffed. Some nations may be recognising Palestine, but Trump is doing the same for penguins. Comedian Frank Skinner was pleased when the King invoked 'It's coming home' this week, because the phrase was rather absent from the Lionesses' Euros campaign. The words are from the song Skinner co-wrote for Euro '96 and he thinks politics is behind its disappearance. 'Someone who worked for the FA told me that … members from other football associations had said it is very jingoistic to suggest that England is the home of football,' Skinner said on Frank Off the Radio. Maybe, or perhaps it's because our women bring football home so regularly that they've rendered the song obsolete? 'Four years of hurt' doesn't sound too bad, but Skinner can rely on the men's team to keep topping up their hurt-o-meter. • Sarina Wiegman boogies to Burna Boy at England Euros parade in London Reshuffle fever is still untreatable in SW1A, but always be wary of such rumours. Former deputy cabinet secretary Helen MacNamara tells the Institute for Government she would 'mischievously' get tongues wagging by randomly wheeling out the reshuffle 'whiteboard' which charts who has what job. 'It used to sit in the corner of my office, shrouded in a sheet,' she said. 'I'd take the sheet off it, and somebody coming in would be like 'What's going on?'' Gossip could get out of hand. In one reshuffle, a minister was thought to be in line for a move, but returned from Downing Street with the same job, and was bemused that civil servants had taken his name off the door and packed his possessions into a box. The novelist Philip Pullman is not generating much hype for his forthcoming memoir. 'I haven't been anywhere and I've not done very much — all I've done is sit in a room and write books,' he told an event given by bookseller Waterstones and publisher Scholastic, who'll have to work on some better blurb. Pullman is marking 30 years of the His Dark Materials trilogy, and 40 years of working with his editor David Fickling. The latter was still green in publishing when he read his first Pullman manuscript. 'I've just read the most amazing book,' he told a colleague at Oxford University Press. 'What am I supposed to do now?' His colleague looked up from the dictionary he was compiling and replied: 'I think you're supposed to publish it.' Five Great Reads: Jamie Lee Curtis v plastic surgery, Elon Musk's Hollywood diner, and the rise of the X-rated novel

Top of the weekend to you all. If you need a side order of silly in your life, here's something to add to your calendar before tucking into this week's main course. Elon Musk last week opened a Tesla-themed diner in Hollywood. What could possibly go wrong? As many things as you'd expect from a master of 'move fast and break things'. Lois Beckett braved the lengthy queues, encountering tech glitches, unavailable menu items and a small flotilla of tricked-up Cybertrucks. Sales pitch: The Tesla boss said on an earnings call his diner was 'a shiny beacon of hope in an otherwise sort-of bleak urban landscape'. It is located on Santa Monica Boulevard, in a neighbourhood full of high-end art galleries. How long will it take to read: Four minutes. This interactive tells the story of how plastic contaminates entire ecosystems – and even the food we eat. Fun fact: A single washing machine cycle can shed up to 700,000 tiny plastic fragments and threads. A single thread could voyage around the natural world for centuries. How long will it take to read: Three minutes. Further reading: How petrostates and well-funded lobbyists are derailing a deal to cut plastic production. Jamie Lee Curtis's energy fair bursts out of the screen in this interview with Emma Brockes. The conversation is a wild ride highlighted by the 66-year-old's distaste for plastic surgery and Hollywood's rejection of her movie-star parents, Tony Curtis and Janet Leigh, once they'd reached 'a certain age'. 'I've been very vocal about the genocide of a generation of women by the cosmeceutical industrial complex, who've disfigured themselves. The wax lips really sends it home.' – Curtis on why she brought a prop to the Guardian photoshoot. How long will it take to read: Nine minutes. 'Sex remains at the centre of much of the best fiction,' writes the author Lara Feigel, 'and we need powerful fictions to show us what sex is or can become.'
