Qura bartender wins 2025 Hong Kong and Macau cocktail competition

Quentin Luk has just made a margarita that is sure to change his life.
The 32-year-old bartender's preparation of the classic cocktail won him a nail-biting tiebreaker session at the Diageo World Class Hong Kong and Macau 2025 finals to crown him this year's champion following a rigorous day-long competition.
Luk, who was representing the Regent Hong Kong hotel's Qura Bar, squared off with Soho House's John Patrick Poon in the unscheduled tiebreaker. Despite displaying visible nerves behind the bar, he showed that his recipe had what it takes.
Luk and Poon were among 10 bartenders, whittled down from 20 earlier this year, from Hong Kong and Macau who battled it out in the regional finals of the long-running cocktail competition on July 2 at Gokan bar in Central, on Hong Kong Island.
They presented an array of cocktails designed to showcase their creativity, bartending technique and storytelling skills to a panel of judges that included
Gokan's Shingo Gokan , past World Class winners
Shelley Tai and Massimo Zitti, and this writer.

Chiikawa fans brave Hong Kong summer swelter for ‘preheat' fun before exhibition

Hong Kong fans of the popular Japanese manga series Chiikawa braved the sweltering sun to take pictures of art installations featuring popular characters on Saturday and snapped up tickets online for a coming exhibition, with some saying the event will keep them in the city over the summer. Advertisement Dozens of people queued up near the Space Museum in Tsim Sha Tsui on Saturday morning for a 'preheat celebration' ahead of the official exhibition opening next month, featuring the three most recognisable characters – Chiikawa, Usagi and Hachiware. It is the second summer in a row that the exhibition's organiser, Hong Kong design studio AllRightsReserved, will host a large-scale event using an anime icon. Last year's Doraemon exhibition attracted crowds and was said to have boosted business in the area. Saturday's preheat celebration allowed fans to take pictures at the installations while visitors will be able to buy merchandise with local characteristics at next month's exhibition. She said that the coming exhibition, where products including keychains, clothes and bags will be sold, would foster community cohesion and benefit the local economy because of the charisma of the characters.

Latest Japan quake has ‘no causal connection' with manga prophecy: weather agency

Japan 's weather agency said an earthquake that rattled small islands in the nation's southwest on Saturday was in no way connected to a manga author's disaster prediction that went viral on social media. 'It is absolutely a coincidence. There is no causal connection,' Ayataka Ebita of the Japan Meteorological Agency told a press conference. Earlier in the day, a temblor with a preliminary magnitude of 5.4 struck off the Tokara island chain, the latest in a series of seismic events in the area. Speculation has spread that Japan will be hit by a major disaster in July – specifically on Saturday – based on a prediction made in The Future I Saw, a manga written by Japanese artist Ryo Tatsuki. 10:45 Why a viral manga warning of a megaquake has some travellers cancelling Japan trips Why a viral manga warning of a megaquake has some travellers cancelling Japan trips Tatsuki gained a profile after her prediction of a 'major calamity' in March 2011 coincided with a catastrophic quake-tsunami that struck Japan's northeast and led to the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant accident.
