Midhun Reddy, who represents the Rajampet constituency, had arrived in Vijayawada earlier in the day to appear before the SIT. His arrest follows the detention of other accused in the case, including Dhanunjay Reddy, Krishna Mohan Reddy, and Balaji Govindappa.
YSRCP hits back
Reacting to the arrest, the opposition YSRCP accused Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu of using the case as a tool for political revenge. Party leader Malladi Vishnu called the action part of a "vindictive conspiracy" against leaders close to YSRCP chief YS Jagan Mohan Reddy.
Live Events
"But we will bounce back to call the bluff of Chandrababu Naidu," Vishnu said in a statement. "The more vindictive the actions of the Naidu government, the stronger our resolve becomes to fight back and expose the failures and corruption of the current coalition government."
Senior YSRCP leader L Appi Reddy also defended Midhun Reddy, saying he comes from a respected political family and had shown respect for the law by voluntarily attending the inquiry. "I am confident that justice will prevail," he told PTI Videos.
The case is still under investigation.

Dharmasthala secret burials: SIT accompanies whistleblower for inspection near temple town
The Special Investigation Team (SIT) formed to probe the alleged secret burials at Dharmasthala Monday took the whistleblower to locations around the Karnataka temple town where the bodies are said to have been buried. The team conducted a spot mahazar (inspection) of the location where the whistleblower had dug up a skull, which he had handed over to investigating authorities while filing a complaint earlier this month. This was apart from marking other spots around Snana Ghatta (bathing ghat), located on the banks of River Netravati, where the bodies were allegedly buried by him, according to sources. The mahazar took place amid heavy police presence as personnel from Dharmasthala and Belthangady police stations, and the Karnataka State Reserve Police were deployed around the spot. The process took place after SIT officials questioned the whistleblower for two consecutive days – Saturday and Sunday – regarding the allegations made by him. During the mahazar process, the complainant's face was concealed with a mask to protect his identity. Earlier this month, the whistleblower – a former sanitation worker employed at Dharmasthala – filed a police complaint saying he was forced to bury several bodies and was threatened against approaching the police. The complainant had said that he was suffering from 'guilty consciousness' and that many of the bodies he had buried were of women with signs of sexual assault. The Dharmasthala police filed a First Information Report (FIR) on July 4 based on the complaint filed by the whistleblower. On July 19, succumbing to pressure from various organisations and activists, the Karnataka government formed an SIT to probe the sensational allegations levelled by the whistleblower. Last week, the SIT set up an office at the Belthangady police station. Officials from SIT had also visited the Dharmasthala police station to collect relevant documents pertaining to the case.

Give 'martyr' status to Pahalgam attack victims, support their families, says Shubham Dwivedi's wife as Parliament discusses Op Sindoor
As the Lok Sabha debated ' Operation Sindoor ' on Monday, Aishanya Dwivedi, the wife of Pahalgam terror attack victim Shubham Dwivedi , demanded 'Martyr' status for all 26 victims of the horrific incident. She also accused political leaders of undermining the gravity of the April 22 attack this year and reminded them that "terrorists didn't ask for anyone's caste or political party -- they attacked Indians". The Lok Sabha on Monday took up a special discussion on India's 'strong, successful and decisive Operation Sindoor in response to the terror attack in Pahalgam". Live Events "A tragedy of such magnitude, and it's through 'Operation Sindoor' that it's being acknowledged," she said, adding, "We're still fighting for recognition (martyr status)". She said the country must stand by the grieving families and support them. "I'm only 27 or 28 years old; I don't know what people expect to do or how they expect us to move on. But I know one thing: I am a daughter of this nation, and he was a son of this soil. If this country truly stands by its citizens, this is the time to show it," she said. She stressed that at a time like this, "all of us", regardless of background, should speak in one voice, as one nation. This is not a political issue, Aishanya Dwivedi said. "Terrorists didn't ask for anyone's caste or political party -- they attacked Indians," she told PTI, reacting sharply to remarks by senior Congress leader and former Home Minister P Chidambaram, who allegedly questioned the government's claim that the attackers were from Pakistan. "I fail to understand why some people -- XYZ or anyone -- are making such insensitive statements. Do they forget that they are Indians first? "This terrorist attack wasn't carried out after asking someone's political affiliation... It was an attack on Indians, on our own people, on Hindus living peacefully in this country," she said. "Making unnecessary comments, defending Pakistan, raising baseless questions, I honestly don't know where these people come from or what they're thinking. Do they even hear themselves? Maybe they're unaffected because this didn't happen to them. That's why they can talk so carelessly," she said. At the same time, she said, questions on how the country will fight terrorism should be addressed. "More than anything, I want answers. What are we doing to fight terrorism? What strategies are in place? What action will we take moving forward? These are the questions that matter most to me today." She said getting a 'Martyr' status for her slain husband, Shubham Dwivedi, and the 25 others killed in the terror ambush remains her priority. "Shubham didn't just die; he gave his life for the country. What more does it take to be called a martyr?" She says the families of the victims -- particularly the wives have received "no official assurance, no meaningful relief and no recognition". "What about the families they left behind? What is the government doing for the wives, for the children, for those of us who now have to live with this loss? "Life has changed forever. For 26 women, the word 'husband' no longer exists. We've lost more than a loved one; we've lost our support system, our future. But till now, not one step from the government makes us feel seen," she said. "I'm not saying the government isn't thinking. Maybe the central or the state government must be thinking and is waiting for the right moment. But even after three months, we haven't seen a single step that makes us feel that something meaningful has been done for us," she said. Aishanya appealed for national solidarity and rejected divisive narratives. "We must stand with the nation and fight against terrorism. Dividing opinions, questioning the Army doesn't make any sense. It only makes us weaker." Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Monday said in the Lok Sabha that Operation Sindoor was "paused" as the armed forces had achieved the desired politico-military objectives and asserted that there was "no pressure" to end it. The entire operation was over in 22 minutes and the Pahalgam killings were "avenged". If Pakistan indulges in a fresh misadventure, it will resume again, the minister said in his opening remarks on the special debate on Pahalgam terror strikes and Operation Sindoor in the lower house.

‘Testing our patience': SC rebukes MP minister Vijay Shah over 'apology' to Colonel Sofiya Qureshi; questions intent
NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court on Monday pulled up Madhya Pradesh minister Vijay Shah for failing to issue a proper public apology over his controversial remarks against Indian Army officer Colonel Sofiya Qureshi, calling into question his sincerity and intentions. 'This man has been testing our patience... This was the statement he made on the first date... where is it on record? That (online apology) shows his intentions, that makes us more suspicious of his bonafides,' Justice Surya Kant told Shah's counsel, according to *LiveLaw*. The judge made it clear that the so-called apology shared online was inadequate and raised doubts about Shah's motives. A bench of Justices Surya Kant and Joymalya Bagchi expressed doubts about the minister's intentions and bonafide due to his conduct. Senior advocate K Parmeshwar, representing Shah, stated that a public apology had been issued and would be submitted to the court. The SIT has examined 87 people and is reviewing statements. The court refused to consider Congress leader Jaya Thakur's plea seeking Shah's resignation but said the SIT would investigate some allegations raised in the petition. Shah had stirred controversy in May when he allegedly described Colonel Qureshi, a key figure in the Indian Army's Operation Sindoor briefings, as a 'sister of terrorists' during a public address. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Real-Time Conversations in 68 Languages? The Madhya Pradesh high court later termed the remarks 'scurrilous' and likened them to 'language of the gutters'. Following the outrage, an FIR was registered against Shah under charges of promoting enmity and hatred. The Supreme Court on May 19 ordered the formation of a three-member Special Investigation Team (SIT) of IPS officers to probe the case and also stayed separate proceedings at the Madhya Pradesh High Court. Advocate Varun Thakur said the SIT had submitted a status report and the statement of the accused had been recorded. 'Since he is accepting, giving public apology, then there is no need for investigation, but still we are waiting,' Thakur told PTI, noting that SIT officials had assured the investigation would be completed before August 13. The next hearing is scheduled for August 18.
