Apple must face DOJ monopoly lawsuit, judge rules
A federal judge rejected
's bid to dismiss the Justice Department's antitrust lawsuit on Monday, dealing a significant blow to the
maker's legal strategy.
U.S. District Judge Julien Neals
ruled that government allegations are "sufficient to demonstrate Apple's specific intent to monopolize the smartphone and performance smartphone market."

The decision clears the path for a potentially years-long legal battle that could reshape how Apple operates its ecosystem of devices and services.
DOJ Claims Apple built "walled garden" to stifle competition
The March 2024 lawsuit targets Apple's restrictions on third-party app developers and technical barriers for competing devices like smartwatches and digital wallets. Government prosecutors argue these practices destroy competition while inflating prices for consumers and developers.
Apple's iPhone sales generated $201 billion in revenue last year, cementing its position as the world's most popular smartphone.
The tech giant had argued its limitations on developer access were reasonable business practices, claiming forced technology sharing would harm innovation. Apple spokesperson Marni Goldberg maintained the company believes "this lawsuit is wrong on the facts and the law."
Apple's case joins growing big tech antitrust crackdown
Judge Neals identified "several allegations of technological barricades that constitute anticompetitive conduct" and noted the "dangerous possibility" that Apple has transformed the iPhone into an illegal monopoly.
The case could reach trial by 2027 under the current timeline.
This lawsuit represents part of a broader government offensive against Big Tech monopolies. Meta, Amazon, and Google parent Alphabet all face similar antitrust challenges from federal enforcers.
Apple confronts additional legal pressures beyond the monopoly case. The company could lose its $20 billion annual payment from Google for default search placement, while a separate federal order already restricts its App Store fee collection practices.
The outcome could fundamentally alter Apple's business model and its tightly controlled "walled garden" approach to hardware and software integration.

Google Pixel 10 Pro, Pro XL specs leak ahead of launch: Tensor G5, 16GB RAM, bigger battery tipped
As anticipation builds for Google's next flagship smartphone launch, new leaks have shed light on what consumers can expect from the Pixel 10 Pro and Pixel 10 Pro XL. While the official unveiling date remains under wraps, the latest reports suggest an August debut could be on the cards. According to information shared byAndroid Headlines, the Pixel 10 Pro series will likely bring incremental hardware improvements over the Pixel 9 Pro and 9 Pro XL. The most notable upgrade appears to be the inclusion of Google's in-house Tensor G5 chipset, which is expected to be paired with up to 16GB of RAM. Storage configurations could vary, with the Pixel 10 Pro reportedly launching in 128GB, 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB variants, while the larger Pixel 10 Pro XL may start at 256GB. Both phones are likely to sport LTPO OLED displays with a refresh rate of up to 120Hz and a peak brightness of 3,000 nits. The Pixel 10 Pro is rumoured to feature a 6.3-inch screen, whereas the Pro XL could house a more expansive 6.8-inch display. Durability is expected to remain a priority, with Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2 reportedly protecting both the front and back of the devices. In terms of photography, Google seems to be sticking to its tried-and-tested formula. The rear camera setup is said to mirror that of the previous generation, comprising a 50MP main sensor, a 48MP ultra-wide lens, and a 48MP telephoto unit offering 5x optical zoom. Both the ultra-wide and telephoto cameras are rumoured to support macro photography. On the front, users may find an upgraded 42MP selfie camera. Battery life could also see modest improvements. The Pixel 10 Pro is tipped to include a 4,870mAh battery, slightly larger than its predecessor's 4,700mAh unit. It may also benefit from a larger vapour chamber for improved thermal management. Meanwhile, the Pixel 10 Pro XL is expected to come with a 5,200mAh battery, potentially making it the largest battery ever fitted to a Pixel phone. Charging speeds are also anticipated to increase. The Pixel 10 Pro is believed to support 29W wired charging, while the XL variant could offer up to 39W. Both handsets are said to support 15W wireless charging.

iPhone users might soon switch between two WhatsApp accounts on the same device
In a move that could delight iPhone users around the world, WhatsApp may soon allow switching between two accounts within the same app, simplifying dual use. This upcoming update is expected to simplify life for anyone juggling personal and professional conversations on WhatsApp. WhatsApp tests a feature to add and switch between two accounts on one iPhone(Freepik) Until now, using two accounts meant switching between devices or relying on WhatsApp Business. For iPhone users, there has never been a direct way to use multiple WhatsApp accounts in the same app. That could soon change. Right now, most users either use WhatsApp Business or rely on unofficial apps to run two accounts. But WhatsApp is now working on a feature that lets you manage multiple accounts right inside the main app. This upcoming feature is being tested in beta versions of WhatsApp for iOS (25.9.10.70 and 25.19.10.74). It will let you add a second account by either entering a new number or linking an existing one using a QR code. Once your accounts are set up, switching between them will be quick and easy. You won't have to log out or restart the app. WhatsApp will show your profile picture and name for the account you're currently using, so you'll always know which one is active. WhatsApp is also making notifications smarter for this new feature. If you get a message on one account, the alert will tell you exactly which account received it and who sent it. Just tap the notification, and it will take you straight to the correct account and open the chat. This feature could be especially handy for users with eSIM on their iPhones, as they can keep multiple phone numbers active without needing two phones. There is no confirmed date yet, but WhatsApp's multi-account feature is already being tested on iPhones. This suggests the official rollout might not be far off. Once available, it will help iPhone users manage more than one account easily, just like on Android. While the wait continues, the update promises to be a useful one for those who want to keep personal and work messages separate without switching apps or using extra tools.
