Aamir Khan was moved to tears after reading a fan's letter about their specially-abled brother's reaction to Sitaare Zameen Par, calling it a powerful moment of representation.
Aamir Khan is currently basking in the success of his recently released film 'Sitaare Zameen Par'. The Bollywood superstar recently sat down with the cast of the film to read and respond to heartfelt fan letters, reflecting on the powerful impact the film has had on viewers. Aamir got extremely emotional, and was moved to tears while reading a touching letter from a fan. In the letter, the fan shared their specially-abled brother's reaction after watching the film. They thanked Aamir and his team for not just making a movie, but for showing the power of true representation on screen. Aamir teared up while reading the letter and was so moved that he suggested inviting the fan and their brother for lunch.
Aamir Khan shared a video of the team of Sitaare Zameen Par reacting to fan letters. In the video, he is seen reading out a letter from the fan. It read, 'Dear Aamir Sir and the AKP team, This Saturday, when the credits had finished rolling. The lights were slowly coming back on. Around us, the theatre emptied out with people chatting, checking phones, heading home. But in the third row from the back, we sat still. My elder brother, who is specially-abled (has cerebral palsy, and both mentally and physically challenged) just kept staring at the now blank screen, silent tears quietly streaming down his face. And then he turned to me and whispered the words that will stay with me for the rest of my life: 'Yeh bilkul hum jaise hai na? (They are exactly like us)." That's when I truly understood what you had done. You hadn't just made a film. You had opened a door to our world and invited the entire country inside. THE POWER OF REPRESENTATION ON SCREEN."
Overwhelmed, Aamir couldn't finish reading the letter himself and asked director RS Prasanna to continue. He struggled to hold back tears, and was seen wiping them away. Learning that the fan's brother lives in Bandra and has a birthday coming up, Aamir immediately suggested inviting him home for lunch, saying they could celebrate together.
'We should meet him. Yeh to Bandra mein rehta hai. One of these days, we will call them home, and then we will have a lunch or something. Tomorrow is his birthday? Oh tomorrow I am in Delhi. But we can meet him on Sunday or something. We can tell him we are celebrating 2 days later. That's a good idea. Let's celebrate his birthday. Let's meet him for lunch," said Aamir.
