20 injured in Rome petrol station explosion and fire
At least 20 people have been injured after multiple explosions at a petrol station in Rome.
A truck is believed to have hit a gas pipe, with police saying two consecutive blasts occurred while emergency services were at the scene.
The sound of the explosions was reportedly heard across the Italian capital.
It happened on Via dei Gordiani 32, in the east of the city, at 8.18am local time.
A fire also broke out and several buildings nearby have been damaged, with others evacuated.
The Teano subway station has been closed and Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni has contacted the mayor to offer assistance.
Meanwhile, Pope Leo said in a statement: "I pray for the people involved in the explosion of a gas station, which occurred this morning in the Prenestino Labicano neighbourhood in the heart of my diocese.
"I continue to follow the developments of this tragic incident with concern."
Multiple police officers and at least one firefighter are among the injured, authorities said, but none are said to be in a critical condition.
"We are working on a tank explosion... the fire is still ongoing," the fire department said in a statement
A witness told Reuters news agency: "I heard it as I was leaving the house, there was a very loud bang, the whole house shook and I was afraid the windows might shatter given how strong it was."

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: 'Around 1.40pm on Tuesday, 8 July, 2025, we received a report of a woman having been injured by three dogs in Shindale, Invershin. 'Emergency services attended, and the 69-year-old woman was taken to hospital by air ambulance with what are described as serious injuries. 'A 76-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection and enquiries are ongoing.' A spokesperson for the Scottish Air Ambulance Service said: 'We received a call at 1.27pm to attend an incident in Invershin, Lairg. 'We dispatched one ambulance, two GPs, and an air ambulance to the scene. We transported one patient to Raigmore Hospital by air ambulance.' It is not known what has happened to the dogs at this stage.

The killing of a police bloodhound who helped find nine people over the course of his sniffer-dog rescue career has outraged Italians and sparked a criminal investigation to find his killers. Bruno, a seven-year-old, 88-kilogram (195-pound) bloodhound, was found dead on Friday morning in his shed in southern Taranto. A 14-year-old boy has been killed after he was tragically knocked down by a car towing a trailer. Police have arrested a 24-year-old man on suspicion of causing death by careless driving whilst unfit through drugs. Emergency services rushed to the horror crash in Catherington, near Waterlooville, Hampshire, at around 9pm last night. The 14-year-old schoolboy, who was a pedestrian at the time, sadly died at the scene. The suspect has been released from custody pending further investigations, police have said. Police have called on anyone who witnessed or has dashcam footage of the crash to get in touch. A spokesman for Hampshire Constabulary said: 'Officers are appealing for witnesses and dash cam footage following a fatal collision. 'Police were called at 9pm on Monday to a collision on Lovedean Lane, Catherington. The collision involved a car towing a trailer and a pedestrian. 'Sadly, despite the best efforts of emergency services, including the Hampshire & Isle of Wight Air Ambulance, the pedestrian, a 14-year-old boy, died at the scene. 'A 24-year-old man from Waterlooville was arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless driving whilst unfit through drugs and has been released under investigation. 'As part of our investigation we would like to speak to anyone who witnessed the collision or anyone who has relevant dash cam footage capturing the incident or the moments leading up to it.
