Dubai Culture Launches Programme to Activate Al Fahidi Historical Neighbourhood
Dubai Culture and Arts Authority has unveiled a months-long cultural activation of Al Fahidi Historical Neighbourhood, aiming to spotlight the district's heritage and reintroduce it as a vibrant destination for both residents and tourists.
Running until the end of December, the programme features a packed calendar of panel discussions, interactive workshops, community talks, and live craft demonstrations. It seeks to celebrate the UAE's traditions while engaging families, children, and culture seekers in preserving the city's rich legacy.
A core element of the initiative is the 'Family Workshops' series, held on the first Saturday of each month. Events like 'Doors of Al Fahidi Historical Neighbourhood' on 28 June, and 'Barajeel and the Magic Brush' on 5 July, invite young participants to explore the district's architecture and cultural motifs.
Traditional Emirati crafts take centre stage through live demonstrations curated by the Turath Centre for Traditional Handicrafts. Upcoming highlights include 'Gargoor-Making' on 12 July and 'The Palm Tree... A Legend of Tales' on 16 July, followed by weaving and sewing workshops in August.
Mariam Al Tamimi, Acting Director of the Heritage Sites Department at Dubai Culture, said the programme reinforces Al Fahidi's role as a key cultural landmark. 'This initiative strengthens national identity and supports the sustainable preservation of our heritage,'
she noted.
The activation reflects Dubai Culture's broader mission to protect tangible and intangible heritage while fostering creativity and community engagement across generations.
