Having also sealed a return to the Champions League for the first time since 2023 there is a feelgood factor surrounding the Blues that they will be hoping to carry with them to the United States.
Here, the PA news agency looks at the Londoners' group stage opponents and beyond.
With his first-half assist against Sporting Kansas City, @LAFC's Denis Bouanga became the second player in club history to reach 70 career goal contributions, joining Carlos Vela (137). pic.twitter.com/wPexYOOdoF

The MLS side were a late addition to the tournament and were nearly not involved at all, with an 89th-minute equaliser from Brazilian midfielder Igor Jesus salvaging their preliminary play-off against Club America of Mexico last month before French winger Denis Bouanga won it towards the end of extra time.
The play-off came about after Club Leon, also from Mexico, were disqualified from the tournament over FIFA's rules on dual ownership.
LAFC, who are first up for Chelsea in Atlanta on June 16, are relatively new to MLS having been founded in 2014. They finished top of the Western Conference last season and qualified for the play-offs where they ultimately finished third, with their only national title coming in 2022.
Former Tottenham goalkeeper and France's World Cup-winning captain Hugo Lloris and ex-Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud are standout names, while Odin Holm, on loan from Celtic, will also be familiar. Coach Steve Cherundolo played more than 300 Bundesliga matches for Hannover.

A clash with Brazilian giants Flamengo follows in Philadelphia, with the Rio de Janeiro state champions and current leaders of the national championship likely to be the strongest opposition faced by Maresca's side in the group stage. They qualified as Copa Libertadores winners in 2022.
A familiar face awaits in the dugout with former Chelsea full-back Felipe Luis leading the team as head coach, though the former Brazil international made only 15 Premier League appearances in his single season at Stamford Bridge in 2014/15.
Jorginho played more recently for the club, leaving for Arsenal in 2023 and moving to Flamengo earlier this month, while defender David Luiz – a Champions League winner with the Blues in 2012 – departed only last summer.
Flamengo lifted the Intercontinental Cup back in 1981 after a 3-0 win over Bob Paisley's Liverpool in Tokyo, and with seven titles they are the joint-third most successful club in Brazilian football.

Tunisian club Esperance qualified by virtue of their Confederation of African Football (CAF) ranking, having last won the African Champions League in 2019 – their fourth title.
The squad is a mixture of domestic players and recruits from further afield including Brazil, Sweden and Belgium.
Captain Yassine Meriah has 85 caps for Tunisia and the defender played against England at the 2018 World Cup in Russia and has played in the Champions League for Olympiacos.
The club were given the nickname 'The Beast of Africa' in 1994 to reflect their dominance of football both domestically, where they have been champions 34 times, and on the continent.

Should Chelsea progress as group winners it will mean a last-16 meeting with the side that finishes runner-up in Group C, likely to be Benfica or Argentina's Boca Juniors.
Bayern Munich are another possible opponent, as are New Zealand club Auckland City.
Thereafter things become less easy to predict, but topping the group could well set them up for a quarter-final against either Real Madrid, Paris St Germain or Borussia Dortmund.

Who is Felipe Drugovich? Fernando Alonso replacement at F1 Hungarian Grand Prix

Felipe Drugovich walked into the Hungarian Grand Prix paddock with girlfriend Carla Sirotti on Friday morning perhaps not knowing he would be called up by Aston Martin After almost three years of waiting, this could be the weekend that Felipe Drugovich finally lives his childhood dream. He is in line to potentially make his competitive debut at the Hungarian Grand Prix in the place of the injured Fernando Alonso. ‌ The Spaniard made the journey to Budapest and completed his media day duties as normal on Thursday. But, on Friday morning, Aston Martin confirmed their veteran driver, who turned 44 earlier this week, would not take part in the first practice session of the weekend. ‌ "In the days following the Belgian Grand Prix, Fernando Alonso has been managing a muscular injury in his back," a team statement read. "As he continues with treatment this morning, he has chosen to sit out of FP1. Felipe Drugovich will drive in FP1 alongside Lance Stroll." ‌ It has not yet been decided whether Alonso will get back in the car at any point this weekend. As is often the case when a drivers' participation is in doubt, the team will wait for as long as possible before making any final decision. But if Alonso's condition does not improve, then Drugovich is set to make his long-awaited bow in Formula 1 racing. It is the opportunity the Brazilian driver, 25, has been waiting for ever since winning the Formula 2 title back in 2022, only to fail to make the leap into the top category. He signed with Aston Martin as the first member of their newly-formed driver academy in the days after his F2 success was confirmed. He immediately became a reserve driver for their F1 team and has made several practice and testing outings in that role, but has been stuck frustratingly on the sidelines in terms of racing. Drugovich spent the entirety of 2023 on the sidelines but the following year chose to pair his reserve driver responsibilities with a switch to endurance racing. He finished 15th in his one and only season in the European Le Mans Series, having scored one podium at the Four Hours of Imola. ‌ He also made his debut in the famous 24 Hours of Le Mans race that year, finishing 15th in the Hypercar class with Whelen Cadillac Racing. He again represented the team in the 2025 edition of the race, sharing a car with Brit Jack Aitken and Mercedes F1 reserve Frederik Vesti, but retired after 247 laps because of an engine issue. Drugovich has also tested in IndyCar and the all-electric Formula E series as he keeps his single-seater racing options open. He raced in FE at the Berlin ePrix last month, called up by Mahindra Racing to fill in for the absent Nyck de Vries and finished his first race way down in 17th place after picking up a drive-through penalty. But things improved in the second event of the double-header as he climbed 12 places to finish seventh and score points. He was born in Brazil and races under the flag of his homeland, but also holds Italian citizenship. He shares little about his personal life in public, but is regularly tagged in posts on Instagram by his girlfriend Carla Sirotti, who is in Hungary with him this weekend and could get to witness his F1 racing debut in person if Alonso fails to recover.

‘We're actively discussing it' – Jake Paul's team CONFIRM Anthony Joshua fight talks and reveal potential date and venue

JAKE PAUL'S team have CONFIRMED talks are ongoing for a fight with Anthony Joshua. YouTuber-turned-boxer Paul audaciously called out two-time heavyweight champ AJ earlier in the year. 4 It sparked a back-and-forth exchange between the two behind-the-scenes - paving the way for genuine talks between the two camps. Joshua's promoter Eddie Hearn confirmed they are interested with Paul's promotional partner Nakisa Bidarian also open for talks. And with Saudi boxing supremo Turki Alalshikh also on board - the shock fight could become a reality. Bidarian told Sky Sports: "I think the fight can absolutely happen. "I'm looking at it as Jake versus Joshua, which is quite biblical, and it's quite impactful in many ways. "I think size wise, we can get comfortable with it, and I think experience wise, Jake is learning very fast and growing, and Joshua is a little long in the tooth. "So it could be a very interesting matchup, and we're actively discussing it with Matchroom." Paul, 28, is coming off a ten-round points victory in June against former middleweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr, 39. 4 CASINO SPECIAL - BEST CASINO BONUSES FROM £10 DEPOSITS Meanwhile Joshua, 35, is yet to return since being knocked out by Daniel Dubois, 27, in September. He has since undergone elbow surgery - with the plan to return before 2025 is over as Paul's camp eye the mega-bout next year. Bidarian said: "I think we're looking at it happening at the start of 2026. "It's public that AJ was taking a little time away, I think he had a little surgery. "So once he's ready, and once Jake is ready, we're going to squarely focus on that. "It's a fight that Jake wants to do, and that's a discussion we've had at length, and he feels very confident about where he is in his career and his chances of upsetting Anthony Joshua." Paul wants the fight at Wembley Stadium - but America and Saudi Arabia are also other potential hosts. Bidarian revealed: "We're looking at multiple options. Wembley's definitely a possibility. Jake said he'd like to do it there. "He likes the idea of going in and hearing 90,000 people booing him! He kind of feeds off that. "But we're looking at the US, obviously Saudi Arabia is an option, the Middle East is an option as a whole. "We want to do it in the most impactful way possible." Paul made his heavyweight debut last November - when Mike Tyson returned aged 58 after 20 YEARS away from the ring. He put on two stone to 16st 2lb (227lb) but admitted he struggled to even run before dropping back down to the 14st 4lb cruiserweight limit. But Joshua was 18 stone against Dubois - which is a whopping FOUR STONE heavier than Paul. AJ brutally knocked out MMA star Francis Ngannou, 38, in 2024 in what was only the ex-UFC champ's second boxing bout. Bidarian said: "Power is obviously the last thing to go. "So obviously, AJ has a ton of power, and he's still fairly young. Mike Tyson - much more vicious of a knockout artist than Anthony Joshua - that was a risk Jake was willing to take. "Francis Ngannou, amazing MMA fighter, very powerful man, but not an experienced boxer, right? He is a lot less experienced than Jake Paul. "So if people were comfortable with Francis getting in there with AJ, Jake, who is now 13 fights in, plus one amateur fight, then we are comfortable with this." 4 4

Richard Keys rips into Mikel Arteta again after Pedro Porro incident in Arsenal defeat to Tottenham

Arsenal suffered a 1-0 defeat at the hands of north London rivals Tottenham Hotspur on Thursday, but the result wasn't the only talking point from the cagey pre-season clash Richard Keys has once again vented his frustrations with Mikel Arteta, after the Arsenal boss was pushed aside by Pedro Porro during the Gunners' pre-season clash with Tottenham Hotspur. While the north London bragging rights ultimately went to fans of the Lilywhites, who emerged 1-0 winners thanks to Pape Matar Sarr's audacious 45th-minute strike from the halfway line, the scoreline wasn't the only talking point. ‌ That's because tensions between right-back Porro and Arteta bubbled over midway into the second half. The 25-year-old was seen brushing his compatriot out of the way as he prepared to take a throw in. ‌ Given that Arteta was obstructing his path and outside of his managerial zone, Porro then gestured towards the markings on the pitch, showing the Gunners boss he had overstepped his area. The fourth official got in between them to diffuse the situation, and Porro's act was one Keys later threw his support behind on social media, with the presenter being a long-time critic of Arteta's touchline behaviour. ‌ Taking to X, Keys wrote: "Well done Pedro Porro. For how long have I been on Arteta's case? If his team is prepared properly & he trusts them there's no need for the nonsense on the touch line. Stay in your box man." While the replies on Keys' take were a mixed bag, some agreeing with his stance while others criticising him for singling out Arteta when other managers have been guilty of stepping out of their boxes, it's not the first time that Keys has been vocal about the manager as of late. During Arsenal's September 2022 clash with Manchester United, Keys took to social media to lambast him for being on the verge of the touchline, while sharing a photo of the manager almost gracing the pitch. Alongside the snap, he wrote: "Why is Arteta allowed to spend the game on the touch line? Again today – in front of the 4th official as well. Does he has special dispensation?" Just two months later, Keys was actively criticising Arteta's presence on the sidelines once again, even tagging The FA's Professional Game Match Officials Limited in his post to do something about the boss' behaviour during a 1-0 win over Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. On that occasion, he wrote: "Why is this allowed every week @FA_PGMOL? Arteta has been jumping up & down all game – way outside his technical area. [Graham] Potter is in his & 4th is watching. Do something about this man." ‌ It's not just Arteta's actions from the dugout that has seemingly boiled the blood of Keys over the years, however, with the long-time pundit branding him "delusional" for his comments on Arsenal following their Champions League semi-final exit at the hands of PSG in May. Arsenal needed to overcome a 1-0 deficit when they headed to the Parc des Princes to fight for their place in the final of the competition, with Ousmane Dembele giving Les Parisiens the edge in the first leg. Fabian Ruiz and Achraf Hakimi had other plans on the night however, with Bukayo Saka's strike coming as a meer consolation prize for the Gunners who suffered a 2-1 loss away from home, and a 3-1 loss on aggregate. ‌ Arteta felt incredibly hard done-by through his side's exit from the Champions League, claiming they did not deserve to lose their semi-final. However, Keys was quick to take issue with the manager's comments, taking to X to write: "One of Arteta's many problems is he's delusional. "Arsenal haven't been good enough all season. They won't be again until he accepts that. They had spells in both games v Paris but that's not enough. The best teams are in the final." Despite losing to Spurs, Arsenal's pre-season preparations have been positive on the whole. The north London outfit secured a 1-0 win over AC Milan earlier this month in their opening game of the tour, before handing Newcastle United a 3-2 loss days later. They are now set to return to British soil to take on Villarreal at the Emirates Stadium come Wednesday, before facing off with Athletic Club in the Emirates Cup three days later. Arsenal's Premier League opener is on Sunday, August 17, as they travel to Old Trafford to take on long-time rivals Manchester United.
