Samsung Galaxy Z Flip7 FE in for review

GSM Arena23-07-2025
This is the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip7 FE. It's on sale (ours shipped a few days earlier than the projected July 25th date), starting from €999, and you have a choice of Black and White.
The Flip7 FE is nearly identical to the Galaxy Z Flip6, only it runs an in-house 4nm Exynos 2400 with 8GB of RAM. The older Flip6 packs a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 with 12GB of RAM. We'll run our own tests, but the Snapdragon will likely be a bit faster than the new Exynos.
On the surface, the Flip7 FE doesn't seem like much of an upgrade, especially considering that you can find the Galaxy Z Flip6 with twice the base storage (256GB) of the Flip7 FE, for less.
Samsung Galaxy Z Flip7 and Z Flip7 FE
You get a USB-C cable with the Galaxy Z Flip7 FE.
Having identical hardware to last year's Galaxy Z Flip6, the Flip7 FE has an outdated cover screen (especially compared to the Flip7). It's only 60Hz and it doesn't stretch to the entire available panel.
On the surface at least, the Galaxy Z Flip7 FE doesn't look like a very compelling proposition. If you look over at Motorola's Razr 60 series, you'll get a bigger, more functioning cover display, a bigger battery with slightly faster charging for less money.
Still, the Galaxy Z Flip7 FE may not be all bad. We'll need to do our full review treatment on it to see what's what so stay tuned! Samsung Galaxy Z Flip7 FE 5G

Samsung Electronics reports strong Q2, teases XR and TriFold devices for H2 this year

Peter, 31 July 2025 Samsung Electronics has published its financial report for the second quarter of this year. Besides reporting on the status of its mobile, display and semiconductor businesses, Samsung also revealed some of its plans for the second half of 2025. The Mobile eXperience (MX) and Networks businesses posted KRW 29.2 trillion in consolidated revenue with an operating profit of KRW 3.1 trillion. The MX division saw a decrease in smartphone shipments compared to Q1, but compared to Q2 last year, the results show both higher revenue and operating profit. This quarter-to-quarter slump is natural – it was between the launch of the Galaxy S25 series and the arrival of the Galaxy Z 7 foldables. That said, Samsung credits the year-on-year growth to continued strong sales of the Galaxy S25 series, the Galaxy A series and Galaxy tablets. The MX Business 'maintained solid double-digit profitability'. For the second half of the year, Samsung will continue its flagship-first approach with a focus on the new foldables, the S25 series as well as promoting the AI capabilities of its more affordable A-series. Speaking of AI, the company will be pushing more AI to its tablet and wearable product lines. Here's the interesting bit. In the second half of 2025, Samsung will expand its Galaxy ecosystem with the launch of new form factors – including XR devices and "TriFold devices." Yes, spelled exactly like that, essentially confirming the rumored Galaxy Z TriFold name. Samsung LSI is working on improving Exynos to 'ensure its adoption in 2026 flagship mobile lineups of a major customer'. We'll give you one guess as to which customer that is referring to. Related to that, Samsung's Foundry Business will be increasing production of mobile chipsets on its 2nm GAA node – that would be the Exynos 2600. We'll get back to the foundry business in a moment. Device Solutions (DS) is Samsung Electronics' second largest division after MX – it contributed KRW 27.9 trillion in revenue and KRW 0.4 trillion in operating profit of the KRW 74.6 trillion revenue and KRW 4.7 trillion operating profit for Samsung Electronics as a whole. The memory business sold more HBM3E for server applications and sold a higher proportion of high-density DDR5. It also reports that the delay in datacenter projects has now been cleared, which allowed it to increase SSD sales and clear out NAND inventory. However, the company took a one-time hit by having to adjust the value of its inventory. The DS division was also impacted by export restrictions related to China in the non-memory segment. The Foundry Business also had to adjust the value of its inventory after the US applied export restrictions on advanced AI chips to China. Meanwhile, Samsung Display brought in KRW 6.4 trillion in revenue and KRW 0.5 trillion in operating profit. Revenue increased due to strong sales of new smartphone displays to major customers, but also due to sales of IT and automotive displays. The company is reporting that sales of QD-OLED monitor panels are growing continuously with strong demand from the gaming market. Samsung plans to strengthen its QD-OLED panel product line and accelerate the growth. Source

Samsung confirms tri-fold phone and XR headset for later this year

Stylized version of Samsung tri-fold render from One UI teardown. | Image credit — Android Authority Samsung has officially confirmed that both a tri-folding smartphone and an XR headset will launch before the end of 2025. The announcement came during the company's latest earnings call, where it also reiterated its commitment to new AI-powered form factors across the Galaxy ecosystem. The long-rumored Galaxy Z TriFold, will reportedly use two inward-folding hinges that fully protect the flexible display when shut. That contrasts with Huawei's outward-folding Mate XT Ultimate, where part of the screen remains exposed even when folded. This approach could make the device more durable and give it an edge over Huawei's — especially as the foldables market becomes more competitive. According to what was said in the earnings call, Samsung is targeting an October release for this TriFold. This would make it the first (globally available, I hope) mainstream tri-folding smartphone from a major global brand. Apple, by comparison, is not expected to launch its first foldable iPhone until sometime in late 2026. — Samsung Electronics second quarter 2025 results The Galaxy Z Fold 7, which recently set preorder records in the US, already showed that demand for advanced foldables is growing. Adding a TriFold to the lineup would further differentiate Samsung's portfolio and help fend off rising competition from Huawei, Honor, and others working on alternative form factors. Samsung's "Project Moohan" XR headset. | Image credit — Samsung In the same earnings call, Samsung confirmed it will also launch its XR headset before year's end. Unlike the Apple Vision Pro, which uses Apple's visionOS, Samsung's headset will be the first to run Android XR. From a competitive standpoint, Samsung's decision to move ahead of Apple in both foldables and XR shows a more aggressive approach than usual. Historically, Apple has waited to perfect hardware categories before entering, while Samsung often aims to be first. This time, that head start might prove useful. If Samsung can deliver real durability and usability in its TriFold, without making the device too bulky, it could set a new benchmark. Still, as prices did increase for the Galazy Z Fold 7 this year, what the price point will be for a TriFold is still a big consideration. That and software optimization will ultimately determine whether this form factor becomes mainstream or remains niche in the global market.
