Lotto 6/49: Ontario mom claims $5M Classic Jackpot just weeks before her ticket expiry date
With the one-year window closing in, OLG issued an Unclaimed Prize News Release on April 17, 2025, urging Ontario players to double-check their tickets. Christie heard the announcement on the radio while out with her mom.
'When I heard the details, I turned to my mom and said, 'I have a feeling that's my ticket!'' she said while claiming her prize at the OLG Prize Centre in Toronto.
Christie, who works in logistics, usually checks her tickets about once a month, but had recently let a small pile of unchecked slips gather. That afternoon, she rushed home and pulled out her phone.
'I saw the 'Big Winner' message and put my phone down to pause for a moment,' she said. 'Then I took another look. I managed to stay calm, thinking, 'I did it!' It was a great feeling.'
Christie has been regularly purchasing OLG tickets for the past seven years and always says 'yes' to Encore. She usually sticks to Lotto 6/49, Lotto Max, and Ontario 49 — but this is her first major win.
'The next morning, I gathered my family to share the incredible news,' she said.
She had the winning numbers pulled up on her laptop when her kids began guessing why she'd called a family meeting.
'Everyone was speculating about what I wanted to tell them. I had the winning numbers pulled up on my laptop when my kids guessed, 'Did you win the lottery?' My answer was, 'Yes, and it's a life-changing prize — $5 million!' We sat there in silence, and I could see the wheels turning in all their heads as I shared proof of my win,' said Christie.
For the winner, the moment marked a realization of a long-held dream.
'I would dream of winning big every time I'd check my tickets,' she said.
'I'd think about how I could help my family and the impact it would have on all of us. It feels so validating now, especially after all the times I'd head out to get my tickets and my kids would tease me. I'd always say, 'You can't win if you don't play!' Now, my heart's full of joy and I'm humbled by what this means for us.'
Now a multimillionaire, Christie says her top priority is retiring — and helping her husband do the same.
'I'm so grateful to share this moment with my family. I feel so thankful and fortunate for this win. I plan to retire, and I want my husband to do the same. We can now spend our time doing what we love and enjoying our time together,' she said.
And to celebrate? She has a dream trip in mind.
'I'd also like to treat my husband to a scenic road trip along the Pacific Coast Highway,' said Christie.
According to OLG, players have one year from the draw date to claim their winnings. To avoid missing out, players are encouraged to sign their tickets upon purchase, store them in a memorable place, check them soon after the draw, or buy through OLG.ca to receive automatic email notifications if their ticket wins.
Lotto 6/49 gives players a chance to win two jackpots every Wednesday and Saturday for $3 per play. The Classic Draw offers a fixed $5 million jackpot, while the Gold Ball Draw guarantees at least $1 million — or a growing jackpot that starts at $10 million and can climb past $60 million.
The winning ticket was purchased at Petro-Canada on Norwich Avenue in Woodstock, Ont. For Christie, her life-changing win came from the Classic Jackpot on a Saturday draw.

King Copper Discovery (CVE:KCP) Is In A Good Position To Deliver On Growth Plans
There's no doubt that money can be made by owning shares of unprofitable businesses. Indeed, King Copper Discovery (CVE:KCP) stock is up 133% in the last year, providing strong gains for shareholders. But while history lauds those rare successes, those that fail are often forgotten; who remembers So notwithstanding the buoyant share price, we think it's well worth asking whether King Copper Discovery's cash burn is too risky. In this report, we will consider the company's annual negative free cash flow, henceforth referring to it as the 'cash burn'. The first step is to compare its cash burn with its cash reserves, to give us its 'cash runway'. AI is about to change healthcare. These 20 stocks are working on everything from early diagnostics to drug discovery. The best part - they are all under $10bn in marketcap - there is still time to get in early. How Long Is King Copper Discovery's Cash Runway? A company's cash runway is the amount of time it would take to burn through its cash reserves at its current cash burn rate. As at March 2025, King Copper Discovery had cash of CA$2.9m and no debt. In the last year, its cash burn was CA$2.5m. That means it had a cash runway of around 14 months as of March 2025. While that cash runway isn't too concerning, sensible holders would be peering into the distance, and considering what happens if the company runs out of cash. The image below shows how its cash balance has been changing over the last few years. See our latest analysis for King Copper Discovery How Is King Copper Discovery's Cash Burn Changing Over Time? King Copper Discovery didn't record any revenue over the last year, indicating that it's an early stage company still developing its business. Nonetheless, we can still examine its cash burn trajectory as part of our assessment of its cash burn situation. While it hardly paints a picture of imminent growth, the fact that it has reduced its cash burn by 44% over the last year suggests some degree of prudence. King Copper Discovery makes us a little nervous due to its lack of substantial operating revenue. So we'd generally prefer stocks from this list of stocks that have analysts forecasting growth. How Easily Can King Copper Discovery Raise Cash? While King Copper Discovery is showing a solid reduction in its cash burn, it's still worth considering how easily it could raise more cash, even just to fuel faster growth. Companies can raise capital through either debt or equity. Commonly, a business will sell new shares in itself to raise cash and drive growth. By looking at a company's cash burn relative to its market capitalisation, we gain insight on how much shareholders would be diluted if the company needed to raise enough cash to cover another year's cash burn. King Copper Discovery's cash burn of CA$2.5m is about 5.5% of its CA$46m market capitalisation. That's a low proportion, so we figure the company would be able to raise more cash to fund growth, with a little dilution, or even to simply borrow some money. How Risky Is King Copper Discovery's Cash Burn Situation? The good news is that in our view King Copper Discovery's cash burn situation gives shareholders real reason for optimism. Not only was its cash burn reduction quite good, but its cash burn relative to its market cap was a real positive. Cash burning companies are always on the riskier side of things, but after considering all of the factors discussed in this short piece, we're not too worried about its rate of cash burn. Taking a deeper dive, we've spotted 5 warning signs for King Copper Discovery you should be aware of, and 3 of them make us uncomfortable. We recently published . Teck Resources Limited (NYSE:TECK) is one of the worst-performing stocks on Friday. Teck Resources dropped its share prices by 6.04 percent on Friday, the third day, to close at $33 apiece as investor sentiment was dampened by a lower revised outlook for the rest of the year. In a statement following the release of its second quarter earnings performance, Teck Resources Limited (NYSE:TECK) reduced its production outlook for copper and molybdenum amid challenges on tailings management facility (TMF) development work, which largely impacts its production performance. Photo by Shane Cottle on Unsplash For the rest of the year, Teck Resources Limited (NYSE:TECK) said that annual copper production guidance was lowered to 470,000-525,000 tons from 490,000-565,000 tons previously. Meanwhile, annual molybdenum production was lowered markedly to 3,800-5,400 from 5,100-7,400 tons prior.
