The gunman opened fire in the lobby before barricading himself on the 33rd floor, where he was later found dead from an alleged self-inflicted gunshot wound to his chest, according to police.

The FBI confirmed that agents from its New York Field Office responded to assist with the investigation. As of late Monday evening, police confirmed that there was no further threat to the public. 'At this time, the scene has been contained and the lone shooter is dead,' NYPD said in a post on X.

The deputy director of the US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has said he is 'shocked to [his] core' by findings in ongoing internal investigations, adding that he will 'never be the same' after becoming aware of certain facts. The bureau is currently facing pressure to release files on Jeffrey Epstein, a deceased US financier convicted of sex trafficking who died in federal custody in 2019.
