Govt unlikely to implement 20 to 28 deg C AC temp range immediately: Union environment minister
on Friday said the government is unlikely to implement the air conditioner temperature range of 20 degrees Celsius to 28 degrees Celsius anytime soon and that it will be introduced gradually over time.
Asked at the India Climate Summit when the new AC temperature range would be implemented, Yadav said any such situation "may arise only after 2050".
"I do not think it will happen immediately; capacities will be gradually built for it over time," he said.

The principle of CBDR-RC (Common But Differentiated Responsibilities and Respective Capabilities) means all countries must fight climate change, but developed nations should do more because they have historically contributed more emissions and have greater resources.
Earlier this month, Union Minister Manohar Lal Khattar said air conditioners in India will soon be required to operate within a fixed range of 20 degrees Celsius to 28 degrees Celsius, and settings below or above this limit will be prohibited.
According to the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE), most ACs in India are currently set between 20 and 21 degrees Celsius, though the ideal comfort range is 24 to 25 degrees Celsius.
BEE recommends setting air conditioners at 24 to 25 degrees Celsius to balance comfort and energy use. It says that keeping the temperature too low, around 20 to 21 degrees Celsius, wastes electricity.
The agency also says that raising the AC temperature by just 1 degree can save about 6 per cent of electricity. Increasing it from 20 degrees Celsius to 24 degrees Celsius could lead to energy savings of up to 24 per cent.

MNF alleges infra funds misuse in Mizoram
Aizawl: Mizo National Front (MNF) on Friday raised serious concerns over the utilisation of funds sanctioned for key infrastructure projects in Mizoram, questioning whether the money was misused or misappropriated by the Mizoram govt. The alleged fund embezzlement was brought to light during a meeting of the DONER Consultative Committee held on Thursday afternoon at the Parliament Annex Committee Room. The meeting was attended by several MPs from the northeastern states and key officials, MNF said in a statement. According to the statement, during the meeting, Mizoram's lone Rajya Sabha member, K Vanlalvena, representing MNF, pointed out that funds allocated under the ministry of DONER for the repair of the Keitum-N Mualcheng-Zawlsei road in central Mizoram's Serchhip district, under the 2023-2024 budget, were yet to be utilised. Despite approval for the repair works, the projects did not commence, and Vanlalvena suggested that the allocated money might have been diverted to other purposes by the present state govt. The meeting decided that the matter should be addressed in the next meeting for further investigation. The MP told TOI that around Rs 200 crore was sanctioned by the ministry of DoNER for the repair of the road. 2 Tripura profs suspended for ‘inappropriate conduct'
Agartala: The state govt has suspended two assistant professors from separate degree colleges following allegations of misconduct. The action was taken on Friday against Dr Shantanu Mujumdar, a chemistry professor at Kamalpur Government Degree College, and Dr Abhijit Nath, a physics professor at Ram Thakur College in Agartala. Dr Mujumdar's suspension comes after a video surfaced on social media, allegedly showing him in a compromising situation with a female student inside the college laboratory. Special secretary for education Ravel Hemendra Kumar said Dr Mujumdar admitted to the inappropriate conduct, which violated the institution's sanctity and the teaching profession's dignity. He has been directed to report to the principal of Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar College in South Tripura and is prohibited from leaving the station without prior approval. In a separate incident, Dr Nath faces suspension over allegations of tampering with the college's admission process. An inquiry revealed that he forged the admission of students not listed on the merit list by using fee cards with falsified principal signatures. Dr Nath confessed to taking 50 fee cards from the office without authorization, returning only 28, and failing to account for the rest. The ECI has already filed its counter affidavit defending the SIR, its right to ascertain the citizenship of an elector during an 'intensive' verification, the equal amount of time for enumeration given in 2003 in Bihar and the difficulties in including Aadhar, ration card and EPIC among its 11 documents of proof. Live Events The apex court's view on the matter will be closely watched for it could offer critical fuel to ECI's national SIR mission or dampen it. Political opposition to SIR, however, is going strong both in and outside Parliament and is expected to sharpen further over alleged 'disenfranchisement' of electors which brings us to the second major concern that arises hereon. The missing elector Over 60 lakh voter names are set to be removed from the draft electoral roll of Bihar for several reasons. The poll panel has stated that nearly one lakh persons are 'untraceable'- forms for 1.2 lakh people have not been submitted, 22 lakh electors are dead, 35 lakh have either migrated out permanently or remain untreatable and as many 7 lakh were found registered as electors in multiple constituencies. Unless they prove otherwise, they will not be restored on the September 30 final electoral roll of the state that is set to go to election before November 22. The foreign hand EC sources earlier have said that Booth Level Officer (BLO) visits had revealed presence of 'a large number' of Bangladeshi, Nepalese and Myanmar nationals on electoral rolls and all such cases would be referred to the competent authorities, if so confirmed. The Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, himself, raised a strong point on Thursday questioning if one can be comfortable with fake electors and foreigners on India's electors list besides the dead. This brings to fore a third major question. What is the geographical spread and density of these 60 lakh electors set for deletion? It has been suspected that the Seemanchal districts of Bihar,-bordering Bangladesh and Nepal- may be one such site but it will only be known for sure after August 1. The Electoral Registration Officer (ERO), further, also reserves the right to imitate a 'sou moto inquiry' if he finds an elector's case suspicious. Notices for the same will be issued post August 1. The ERO will rely on 'field enquiry, documentation or otherwise' to decide on the same and pass a 'speaking order' - an order detailing a clear cut justification- for the same. All such cases will also be referred by the ERO to the 'competent authority' under the Citizenship Act, 1955 but will also have two appeal rights over a span of 45 days. This is, however, a list that is bound to come under intense political and electoral scrutiny and leave several questions in its wake. The missing document The fourth concern is on the larger issue of document submission. While the ECI has been insisting only on submission of duly filled enumeration form by July 25, it has not done away with the requirement of proof of birth- for oneself and parents- as per the 1987/2004 citizenship act categorisation. While ECI has not yet shared data on document submission, it can be expected that a significant number of the 99.8% forms with EC- may not yet be backed by documentary evidence.
