Nobody will dare touch a Hindu or a nationalist Muslim Bengali: Samik
BJP
president Samik Bhattacharya said on Friday amid allegations of harassment faced by Bengali-speaking migrants in multiple BJP-governed states.
Bhattacharya, who had earlier said BJP was not against Muslims, said a narrative was being crafted to create a fear psychosis.
Bengal BJP netas, however, reiterated that those "faking Indian citizenship" would be identified.
"There is a deliberate attempt to create fear psychosis among people. Nobody can touch even the hair of a Hindu, Hindu refugees or and Indian Muslims. BJP will stand by them," Bhattacharya said.
He was answering questions regarding the "targeted harassment" of migrant workers and the alleged deletion of bona fide names from the voters' lists.
"There are Hindus and Muslims who stayed back in India after the partition. They don't have to fear anything. Whichever commission comes here, the BJP will stand by them," Bhattacharya said. "Messages are being sent every day to scare migrant workers from Bengal. None of the state govts are against the Bengali migrant workers who went to those states in search of work.
However, it is also true that speaking in Bangla is not the only criterion for being a voter or a bona fide resident of Bengal," he added.

Earlier in the day, Union minister and former state BJP president Sukanta Majumdar said names of no genuine voter will be deleted from the electoral roll. "We are talking about those who are faking as voters in Bengal without any credentials. Their names will definitely be deleted and that cannot be altered," Majumdar said.
Bengal LOP Suvendu Adhikari, in a press conference on Thursday, said names of persons under four categories might get deleted from the electoral roll. "Dead voters, double-entry voters, fake voters and illegal Muslim immigrants' names will not be on the voters' list," he said.
Bhattacharya alleged Trinamool is demanding retention of names of "dead voters" in the electoral roll. "This cannot be the stand of a political party. They are trying to undermine a constitutional body and intimidate its officials," he said.

The company is known for developing luxury residential, commercial, entertainment, and educational projects, including the notable Gillco Valley township, one of the largest in Mohali, spread over nearly 200 acres. Beyond his business ventures, Gill has been politically active. He was a close confidant of SAD president Sukhbir Singh Badal and served as the party's general secretary. He contested the Punjab Assembly elections from Kharar in 2017 and 2022 on an SAD ticket but was unsuccessful, finishing third in 2017 and losing to Mann in 2022. Gill's assets were reported to be worth Rs 74 crore in 2022, a significant increase from Rs 29 crore in 2017, as per his election affidavit. He faced an income tax raid in December 2022 at his Gillco Valley office and residences in Chandigarh, alongside associates, with cash recovered during the operation. Additionally, an FIR was registered against him in 2021 under the Disaster Management Act for gathering more than 10 people against the district commissioner's prohibitory orders in force.

Addressing the annual legal conclave titled 'Constitutional Challenges - Perspectives & Pathways', Gandhi said that he suspected over 80 Lok Sabha seats were rigged in the 2024 general elections. "The truth is that the election system in India is already dead. The Prime Minister of India holds office with a very slim majority. If 15 seats were rigged, we suspect that the number is over 70 to 80, he would not have been the Prime Minister of India. We are going to prove to you in the coming few days how a Lok Sabha election can be rigged and was rigged," Gandhi said while addressing the gathering in the national capital. Highlighting the six-month investigation carried out by Congress, he further alleged that the Election Commission of India (ECI) doesn't exist and has disappeared. The LoP rekindled his suspicions regarding the election system, saying that he had his doubts about "something being wrong" since 2014. Questioning the BJP's sweeping victories in the assembly elections of Gujarat, Rajasthan, and Madhya Pradesh, Gandhi noted that they began investigating electoral malpractices following their defeat in Maharashtra, where one crore new voters appeared within months ahead of the assembly elections, ultimately voting for the BJP. "I've been speaking recently about the election system. I had always suspected something was wrong, starting from 2014. I had a suspicion in the Gujarat Assembly elections already. This ability to win sweeping victories. The Congress Party didn't get a single seat in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, or Gujarat, which surprised me. Whenever we spoke, people said, 'Where's the proof?' Stay home to avoid rape: Gujarat traffic police's posters spark row; DCP says posters created ‘without their consent'
Posters allegedly sponsored by the Ahmedabad traffic police for a safety campaign have stirred up a controversy, as some of them urged women to stay home to avoid getting raped. The posters, which were pasted in a few localities in the city, have invited criticism from the opposition, which raised questions about women's safety in Gujarat. Posters with statements, "do not attend late night parties, you could be raped or gangraped," and "do not go with your friend to dark, isolated areas, what if she is raped or gangraped?" were pasted on road dividers in Sola and Chandlodia areas and have since been removed. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic West), Neeta Desai clarified that the city traffic police had sponsored posters concerning road safety, not women's safety. Satarkta Group, an NGO, had created the controversial posters without the consent of the traffic police, she claimed. "The NGO had approached us and said they wanted to organise traffic awareness programmes in schools and colleges and wanted our staff to accompany them. We were shown posters related to traffic awareness. But such controversial posters were not shown to us and were plastered without our consent," Ms. Desai said. She added that the posters were immediately removed when the issue was brought to their notice. Gujarat Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) took a swipe at the BJP-led government, saying the posters exposed the state of women's safety. "The BJP government in Gujarat talks about women's empowerment, but the ground reality is completely different. In the last three years, more than 6,500 incidents of rape and more than 36 gang rapes have occurred in Gujarat, with more than five rapes per day," the AAP said in a statement. "The chief minister and BJP leaders talk about women's safety, but today in a big city like Ahmedabad, these posters express the reality of Gujarat. Our question to the CM is whether the women of Gujarat should go out of the house at night or not?" it said.
