"Congress wants 'tukde tukde' of Bharat": Poonawalla slams Ajoy Kumar for calling Sikkim a "neighbouring Country"

India Gazettea day ago
New Delhi [India], July 2 (ANI): Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) National Spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla on Wednesday sharply criticised Congress leader Ajoy Kumar for referring to Sikkim as a foreign nation. Poonawalla alleged that the Congress advocates for 'tukde-tukde' (division) of India.
Poonawalla described Kumar's remarks as an insult to Sikkim and the entire Northeast region. He accused Congress of longstanding hostility toward the Northeast.
'Today, the statement made by Ajoy Kumar that Sikkim is not an integral part of India and is, in fact, a neighbouring nation, shows how he has insulted not just Sikkim but the entire northeast. Congress has always been against the Northeast. We have seen they have bombed one of the states in the Northeast. They have said bye-bye to Assam in the 1960s,' Poonawalla told ANI.
Taking a jibe at Congress, the BJP spokesperson said that they follow the 'footsteps of Jinnah.'
'Congress is following the footsteps of Jinnah. It is a 'Jinnahwadi' party. Just like Jinnah wanted that there should be an Islamic state and division of India, the Congress party advocates for a Sharia Islamic state in some parts, and it wants the 'tukde tukde' of Bharat,' Shehzad Poonawalla said.
The row began when addressing a press conference on Tuesday, Ajoy Kumar named Sikkim as one of the 'neighbouring nations' alongside Bangladesh, Nepal and Sri Lanka, with whom India's relations have been spoiled.
Meanwhile, Kumar shared an X post and apologised for his statement, calling it a slip of the tongue.
Ajoy Kumar wrote, 'Yesterday in my press conference on 'SAIL 400 crore scam', when I was speaking on the deteriorating relations with our neighbouring countries, I accidentally took name of a state. For which I sincerely apologise as it was just a slip of tongue.'
Further, he targeted the BJP and asked them to hold a press conference on the 'atrocities' in 'Amrit Kaal' rather than his 'human error'.
'I heard from a journalist friend that @BJP4India is planning to organise a press conference on this small human error. I want to ask BJP; 1. Why don't they do a press conference on the atrocities happening in this 'AmritKaal'? I did speak about it too yesterday at my Press Conference,' the X post read.
He questioned the BJP over the alleged SAIL scam of Rs 400 crore.
'2. Why don't they do a press conference on SAIL's Rs 400 crore scam? I did speak about it too yesterday at my Press Conference. 3. Why don't they do a press conference on what is the relation between Ekta Aggarwal, the promoter of VIPPL company, which was the main cause of SAIL's loss of Rs 400 crore, with BJP? I did speak about it too yesterday at my Press Conference,' Kumar added.
'4. Why don't they do a press conference on the BJP MLA who beat up a passenger in the Vande Bharat train and the BJP MLA who slapped the SDM? I did speak about it too yesterday at my Press Conference. BJP will never do a press conference on the major issues the country is going through, but instead looks out for small mistakes of the opposition leaders,' the X post read. (ANI)

Bihar roll revision aimed at snatching voting right: Congress targets EC

A day after a multi-party delegation of INDIA bloc met the Election Commission to express concerns about the special intensive revision of electoral rolls in poll-bound Bihar, the Congress Thursday alleged that the exercise was aimed at disenfranchising about 2 crore votes, who might be unable to furnish the documents sought by the poll panel. At a press conference at the AICC headquarters, Congress's Media and Publicity Department chairman Pawan Khera alleged that the special intensive revision was a 'clear conspiracy to disenfranchise the Bihar voters and deny them their basic right to vote'. 'The way the EC is being run poses a serious threat to democracy — not just against the Opposition, but against each and every voter,' Khera said, adding, 'With all humility at my command, I warn the EC that power is a transient thing. Why are you being so servile to them (the BJP)? It would be better if you followed the Constitution.' Bihar PCC president Rajesh Kumar alleged that the special intensive revision was an attempt 'to snatch away the basic voting right of the Bihar voters'. Claiming that there will be practical difficulties in carrying out the exercise in just one month, he alleged that 'it seems as if they (EC) have resolved to strip away the rights of 20% of Bihar voters'. He claimed that the move 'to disenfranchise about 2 crore voters' was fuelled by the growing popularity of the Congress and its leader Rahul Gandhi in Bihar. He questioned how the poll panel will reach out to over 3 crore people who have migrated to Delhi, Mumbai, Punjab and Haryana for livelihood. Bihar Congress in-charge Krishna Allavaru dubbed the special intensive revision yet another 'arbitrary decision' of the PM Narendra Modi-led government being imposed on people. 'It is clear that the Election Commission is showing interest in removing people from the voter list. This is a conspiracy in which people's right to vote will be taken away,' Allavaru said. In a statement Thursday, the EC said that it met representatives of the Congress, RJD, SP, DMK, NCP (SCP), JMM, CPI(M), CPI(ML) Liberation, CPI and Shiv Sena (UBT) on Wednesday and told them that the special intensive revision drive was being conducted 'in a planned, structured and a phased manner to facilitate the inclusion of all eligible citizens'. Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar asked the parties to appoint more booth level agents to help voters. The poll panel said that in the first phase, from June 25 to July 3, enumeration forms are being printed and distributed to the around 7.9 crore voters in Bihar.

IMF says US tax, spending bill runs counter to deficit-cutting advice

The massive US tax and spending bill slated for a final vote in Congress runs counter to the International Monetary Fund's recommendations that Washington reduce fiscal deficits over the medium term, IMF spokesperson Julie Kozack said on Thursday. Kozack told a regular news briefing that there was a broad consensus that the Republican bill will add to US fiscal deficits, while the US needs to start a fiscal consolidation. "From the IMF side, we have been consistent in saying that the US will need to reduce its fiscal deficit over time to put public debt-to-GDP on a decisive downward path," Kozack said. "Of course, the sooner that process starts to reduce the deficit, the more gradual the deficit reduction can be over time." Kozack said that there were many policy options for the US to reduce deficits and debt, adding: "It is, of course, important to build consensus within the United States about how it will address its these chronic fiscal deficits." In recent years, the IMF has recommended that the US raise taxes, including on middle income earners, to close fiscal deficits. The Republican tax bill extends 2017 tax cuts and adds new tax breaks for many Americans. The IMF advice is at odds with the views of US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, who has consistently said that he disagrees with traditional budget forecasts and believes that the so-called "One Big Beautiful Bill Act" will spur additional US economic growth that will boost revenues. The United States is the biggest shareholder of the IMF. Bessent, who manages the US stake, has criticized the Fund for straying too far from its core economic stability and surveillance missions. Kozack said that the IMF was examining details of the US legislation and the likely impact on the economy, and will incorporate its analysis into the late July update of its World Economic Outlook global growth forecasts. The forecasts also will assess the state of play on US tariffs, after President Donald Trump's July 9 deadline to subject many countries to sharply higher duties unless they agree trade deals.

Waste protest: AAP dumps garbage outside mayor's office

New Delhi: AAP councillors on Thursday dumped garbage outside the office of mayor Raja Iqbal Singh at the MCD headquarters in protest over alleged mismanagement of garbage collection services. Leader of the opposition Ankush Narang criticised the BJP-led Municipal Corporation of Delhi for neglecting central Delhi's worsening garbage crisis. "Heaps of waste are piling up, residents are suffering, and the mayor is busy partying in Manesar," the AAP councillor alleged. Criticising the protest at Civic Centre, the mayor said AAP's act reflected its anarchist mentality. "The party failed in both Delhi govt and MCD. That's why the people of Delhi voted them out of power," Singh said. A place where 10 garbage tippers were engaged, only two are operational, and where 15 were engaged, just three remain functional." MCD has given an anticipatory approval for appointing a concessionaire for the central zone and the final nod will be taken later in the standing committee. However, it will take some time for the concessionaire to bring together machinery and start work on the ground. Alleging that all development projects came to a standstill as AAP did not allow the formation of the standing committee for two and a half years, the mayor said BJP formed the panel soon after coming to power and over 25 important proposals were passed in its first meeting. "We are in the process of approving other sanitation proposals," said Singh.
