Teen charged after vehicle rollover on Manitoulin Island
A 19-year-old man from Mono is facing impaired driving charges after Ontario Provincial Police responded to a single-vehicle rollover earlier this month.
At about 4:30 a.m. on July 6, OPP officers, with assistance from the UCCM Anishnaabe Police Service, arrived at the scene on Highway 540 in Billings Township.
Authorities said the officers detected an odour of alcohol on the driver and administered a roadside breathalyzer test using an approved screening device. The driver was transported to the Little Current Detachment for further testing.
'There were no injuries as a result of this collision,' OPP said in a news release Wednesday.
Charges and penalties
As a result of the investigation, the teen was charged with two impaired driving offences – including operating a motor vehicle with a blood alcohol concentration of more than 80.
In addition to the criminal charges, the driver received a 90-day licence suspension and the vehicle involved was impounded for seven days at the owner's expense.
The accused is scheduled to appear in court in Gore Bay on Aug. 26.

In the news release and a related social media post, OPP reiterated warnings about the dangers of impaired driving.

Three months later, little information on missing N.S. children

'That tells me in itself that they suspect that there's a crime involved,' says CTV News Public Safety Analyst Chris Lewis. The children's mother and stepfather told police they last saw Lilly inside the home and could hear Jack that morning. It is believed the siblings may have wandered into the woods, but there has been no sign of them since they were reported missing. 'A police service never gives up on a case like this,' says Lewis, the former commissioner of the Ontario Provincial Police. 'It may get a little colder, with no new leads or nothing more to follow up. But over time, you take another look at it. You balance it all out in terms of the latest technology and forensics, and you get fresh eyes looking at it. 'That's never going to end,' he says. During a video news conference on July 16, Cpl. Carlie McCann told reporters that a pink blanket was located and seized the day the children were reported missing. 'It was outside and found near Lilly and Jack's home. The family has confirmed that the blanket belonged to Lilly,' said McCann. 'Police are investigating if and how it relates to her and her brother's disappearance.' Driver dead following crash on QEW in Grimsby
Emergency crews are on the scene of a single-vehicle crash on the QEW in Grimsby on Saturday, Aug. 2, 2025. Man, 29, wanted in connection with death, arson in Bracebridge, police say
Police are searching for a man in connection with a death and arson that happened Friday night at a residence in Bracebridge. The man, 29, who is from Bracebridge, is wanted for murder, Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) said in a post on X, formerly Twitter. He is described as approximately 5'8" tall, with light brown hair and facial hair, police said. "He is not believed to pose an immediate threat to others or to public safety," police wrote in the post. A shelter-in-place was in effect for Bracebridge until 1:45 a.m. on Saturday. Officers responded to a report of gunfire at approximately 8 p.m. on Beatrice Town Line Road on Friday. When they arrived, they found a dead man and the residence was engulfed in flames, OPP said. Bracebridge OPP's crime unit is currently investigating.
