Autism Awareness Month: Emirates' first successful ‘travel rehearsal' rolled out across 17 cities
As part of Autism Awareness month, several milestones have been achieved on Emirates' journey to make travel more accessible for all.
One year after Emirates' first successful "travel rehearsal," the programme is now being rolled out across 17 cities — allowing children with autism to practice the journey through the airport in order to prepare for real flights.
Emirates has also achieved its designation as the world's first Autism Certified Airline, with more than 30,000 cabin crew and ground staff now trained to support customers with autism. For the month of April, Emirates highlighted autism awareness to millions of passengers globally, showcasing a selection of movies, podcasts and TV shows about neurodiversity on its inflight entertainment system, ice.
Adel Al Redha, Deputy President and COO, Emirates, said: "Emirates has been driving and facilitating good progress in accessible travel, and it is part of our operational strategy. We continue to work on this mission to make travel more inclusive. At the beginning of 2024, we were recognised as a Certified Autism Centre. We have upskilled our teams and I am pleased to say that we are now the world's first autism-certified airline, with 30, 000 frontline staff and cabin crew trained to support our customers with autism.
Now we are also rolling out our Travel Rehearsal programme in cities across the globe, to break barriers and make travel accessible for everyone. This is part of our social and professional responsibility.'
Globally, Emirates has started rolling out its travel rehearsal programme to 17 cities including Barcelona, Brisbane, Budapest, Cebu, Christchurch, Dubai, Durban, Luanda, Madrid, Manila, Mauritius, Manchester, Montreal, Nice, Oslo, Paris and Toronto, with more destinations committing to the programme every month.
The Travel Rehearsal concept first began in 2023, as a community collaboration between Emirates, Dubai's Department of Economy and Tourism, Dubai Airports, the General Directorate of Identity and Foreigners Affairs, Dubai Police and Dubai Customs, and several schools and centres for autism in Dubai, whose feedback was invaluable to the process.
Now on an international level, parents, therapists and teachers involved in the travel rehearsals have reported to Emirates that the experience has been invaluable in helping their child to have a safe and successful flight, by offering the comfort of preparation and familiarity, as well as trained staff to support.
Emirates is introducing the travel rehearsal initiative in many cities on its network, with partnering airports, authorities, local centers, and foundations. Currently, this is not a bookable service and is available on an invitation basis in collaboration with accredited centers.

Middle East business travel surges to $18.1bn in 2024 with 6.1% growth forecast for 2025
The business travel sector in the Middle East is expanding at a faster pace than the global average, with the market reaching $18.1bn in 2024 and projected to grow by 6.1 per cent year-on-year into 2025, according to new research by Tumodo. Compared to late 2024, the volume of business travel bookings across the region rose by 40 per cent, underscoring renewed demand for corporate mobility and technologically advanced travel services. Tumodo attributes the rise to digital innovation, improved travel infrastructure, and post-Ramadan business momentum—April and May were the busiest months in H1 2025. Middle East business travel The broader MENA corporate travel market is expected to grow significantly, reaching $270.8bn by 2030, driven by economic diversification efforts, infrastructure investments, and cross-border business activity. Saudi Arabia emerged as the most travelled-to destination in the MENA region, accounting for 20 per cent of all trips. Other key destinations included: United Kingdom: 15 per cent France and India: 10 per cent each Oman: 5 per cent These trends reflect deepening trade and investment ties between the Middle East and major European and Asian markets. Regional carriers dominated the skies, with Emirates, Turkish Airlines, and Qatar Airways ranked as the top airlines among business travellers. India remained the most affordable route, while the United Kingdom topped the list for premium travel—both in airfare and accommodation costs. Dubai continues to serve as a vital travel hub with frequent routes to global business centres such as Riyadh, London, and Guangzhou. Demand for additional corporate travel services is also rising: Visa support increased by 15 per cent Ground transfers grew by 11 per cent Corporate event bookings rose by 7.25 per cent The average trip duration remained short—just two days—but more travellers are now blending work with leisure, fuelling the rise of 'bleisure' travel. Premium stays remain popular, with 75 per cent of bookings in four- and five-star hotels. Thanks to AI-powered features, Tumodo clients experienced a 12 per cent drop in average airfare costs in H1 2025. Meanwhile, overall booking values rose by just 2 per cent, compared to a 10 per cent industry average. Tools such as customisable travel policies, approval workflows, real-time analytics, and CO₂ emissions tracking enabled clients to optimise travel while supporting UAE's Environment Vision 2030. Stan Klyuy, CCO of Tumodo, said: 'The impressive 50 per cent year-on-year growth we've seen this year signals a shift from recovery to reinvention. With average airfares down by 12 per cent and hotel bookings up only by 2 per cent, we're helping businesses travel more efficiently by lowering emissions, saving time, and optimising cost using our AI tools and deep data. 'We're focused on growing throughout the GCC and Europe in the future, as well as improving the platform with more intricate integrations and predictive capabilities'. As global corporate travel rebounds, industry analysts project worldwide spending to exceed $1tn in 2025. Flying to Beirut, Amman, Tehran and Tel Aviv: Latest on flights and travel disruptions
Travel across the region has been affected throughout June as conflict between Israel, Iran and the US came to a head. With daily – sometimes even hourly – changes to airline schedules, open airspace and airports, passengers have been meticulously tracking travel updates, adjusting plans and packing with the likelihood of delays in mind. While many destinations have been affected – the UAE's airspace was closed on the night of June 23 – some key travel and transit cities have seen greater disruption since the onset of Israel's bombardment of Gaza and its neighbours. For passengers travelling from the UAE to Beirut, Amman, Tehran and Tel Aviv, here is the latest on route suspensions and cancellations. Beirut With on-and-off conflict between Israel and Hezbollah, flights to Lebanon's capital have suffered regular disruptions. Currently, Beirut-Rafic Hariri International Airport is open, and the following UAE carriers are operating flights to the capital: Etihad Airways, Emirates Airline, flydubai, Air Arabia and Wizz Air. Elsewhere, German carrier Lufthansa and Romanian airline Tarom – which previously suspended flights – each state they will resume flights to Beirut from July 1. Amman Queen Alia International Airport in Jordan's capital is currently open and operating. The following UAE carriers are flying to and from Amman: Etihad, Emirates, flydubai, Air Arabia and Wizz Air. However, operations from European cities to Amman on Wizz Air continued to be suspended until September 15. Other international flights to the city also remain on hold. Tarom will halt flights until July; British Airways has cancelled the route from London until July 11; Greek carrier Aegean Airlines has put a pause on flights to and from Amman until September 8; and Irish carrier Ryanair has cancelled flights until October 25. Tehran Exchanging crossfire with Israel and striking a US military base in Qatar, Iran has been massively affected by the ongoing conflict. However, the country has now expanded access by reopening its central and western airspace to international transit flights. The Emirates Airline website states: 'Due to the regional situation, Emirates has cancelled all the flights to and from Tehran until and including July 5, 2025.' The flydubai's website states 'no fares available for the selected route at the moment', for between Dubai and Tehran, with the first flight available to book outbound on July 11. Air Arabia's first flight, from Sharjah to Tehran, leaves on August 1, with no flights listed from Abu Dhabi. An update on June 25 on the carrier's website reads: 'As regional airspace continues to open, Air Arabia is gradually resuming operations on previously suspended flights. Customers are advised to visit to check the latest updates and their flight status. Affected passengers will be notified directly via SMS and email.' Etihad and Wizz Air do not list Tehran as one of their destinations. A statement on Qatar Airways, effective as of June 22, reads: 'Flights to Iran remain temporarily suspended. Qatar Airways continues to monitor the situation and will provide further updates as they become available.' Lufthansa has paused the route until and including July 31. Tel Aviv Numerous airlines have cancelled routes to Tel Aviv amid Israel's strikes on Gaza since October 2023, and more suspended routes as the nation exchanges crossfire with Iran in June. Israeli airspace was temporarily closed on June 13, opening once again on June 24. However, several airlines in the UAE continue to pause their routes to the capital. Etihad has cancelled services to and from Tel Aviv until and including July 15. Wizz Air has suspended all flights to and from Israel's Ben Gurion Airport until further notice. While Emirates is not operating flights directly, its website lists flights between Dubai and Tel Aviv as operational via sister airline flydubai. UAE launches graduate services package with Fazaa card, traffic file, banking support
The UAE Ministry of Interior has announced the launch of its services package for high school graduates for the 2024–2025 academic year. Timed with the release of high school results, the package offers a range of digital services designed to support students as they transition into university or the workforce. Key features include: Criminal record certificate issuance through the Ministry of Interior (MOIUAE) app. Electronic traffic file creation via the ministry's website to streamline traffic-related procedures. Fazaa discount card with access to student-exclusive offers through the Fazaa app. Banking services from Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank tailored to young adults' financial needs. Now in its eighth consecutive year, the initiative is being implemented in cooperation with the Ministry of Education, the Social Solidarity Fund for Ministry Employees (Fazaa), and Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank. Brigadier Nasser Khadem Al Kaabi, Director General of Happiness at the Ministry of Interior, highlighted the Ministry's commitment to delivering proactive and customer-focused services. He noted that the continued rollout of this package for eight years demonstrates fruitful cooperation with strategic partners and reflects the Ministry's ongoing commitment to supporting the future generation and raising the quality of life in Emirati society. The Ministry emphasised that the services are easy-to-use through digital platforms, eliminating the need for in-person visits and ensuring a smoother, faster user experience. This enhances the efficiency of service delivery and reflects the tangible efforts of the joint work teams that continuously contribute to improving and developing the package's content to ensure the best customer experience.
