Drug, vape abuse among Malay youths alarming
PUTRAJAYA: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim today expressed deep concern over the rising trend of drug and vape abuse among youths, particularly Malay youths.
Anwar said the issue is escalating and requires a comprehensive solution involving various approaches, including counselling and 'dakwah' (religious outreach).
He said the matter was also discussed during the Cabinet meeting earlier this morning, reflecting the seriousness of the threat to the nation's future.
'Please discuss and find solutions, whatever methods or resources needed. Is counselling required? Is dakwah necessary? Because this issue has remained unresolved for decades,' he said in his speech at the Malaysia MADANI Nationhood Seminar themed 'Teachers as Catalysts for National Patriotism' here today.
Anwar pointed out that while the issue also affects other communities, statistics indicate that it is more prevalent among Malay youths, and urged the government and society to act collectively and comprehensively to curb a problem that threatens to destroy the future of the younger generation.
Professor Emeritus Datuk Dr Nik Safiah Karim, a mentor to the Prime Minister, was also present as a special guest panelist.
Also in attendance were Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Shamsul Azri bin Abu Bakar, Akademi Kenegaraan Malaysia (AKM) director-general Datuk Dr. Roslan Hussin and Putrajaya Corporation (PPj) president Datuk Fadlun Mak Ujud.
Anwar said social issues such as drug abuse and corruption, which have tarnished the nation, have prompted him to take a firm stance in governance.
'That is why I hope you understand why I sometimes adopt a rather tough approach. But when we take action to clean up the country, to reject corruption, there is silence. Why are people like this?' he said.
Earlier, Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil, in a press conference after today's Cabinet meeting, said a special meeting will be convened soon to discuss measures to curb the sale of prohibited substances, including drug-laced vape liquids, especially those sold online.
Fahmi, who is also the spokesperson for the MADANI Government, said the meeting will involve the communications, health; and domestic trade and cost of living ministries.
Fahmi said the outcomes of the discussion will be presented to the Cabinet for further action, including enforcement against individuals selling banned substances and online platforms facilitating such sales.
Today's seminar gathered over 1,000 educators, including retired teachers, educators from Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya, as well as trainee teachers from Teacher Education Institutes (IPG).
The seminar aims to honour the contributions and sacrifices of educators, while enhancing their understanding of government policies, particularly the Malaysia MADANI framework in the context of education.
Its main objective is to cultivate educators who understand and embrace their roles and responsibilities in building a holistic and united nation.

GEORGE TOWN — The Malaysia Day 2025 celebration will be held at the PICCA Convention Centre @Arena Butterworth on the mainland on Sept 16, featuring a variety of programmes to enliven the event, said Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil. He said the celebration will begin at 8.30 pm and is scheduled to be officiated by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. 'Malaysia Day celebrations are sometimes held in open venues, such as last year at Padang Merdeka in Kota Kinabalu (Sabah), and sometimes indoors, like at Stadium Perpaduan in Kuching, Sarawak, two years ago. 'What's different this time is that the Cabinet has decided that Sabah, Sarawak and Peninsular Malaysia will take turns hosting the Malaysia Day celebration. This aims to strengthen ties between the states and foster a greater sense of togetherness and patriotism,' he said. He told reporters this after chairing the Malaysia Day 2025 Celebration Main Committee Meeting with Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow at the Komtar building here today. Also present were Communications Ministry secretary-general Datuk Mohamad Fauzi Md Isa, Penang state secretary Datuk Zulkifli Long, Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama) chief executive officer Datin Paduka Nur-ul Afida Kamaludin, and directors and other senior officers of departments and agencies under the Communications Ministry and the Penang state government. Fahmi said he would visit the PICCA Convention Centre today to inspect the venue and review preparations, including the programme content and schedule. Anwar urges civil servants to back Kota Madani plan
PUTRAJAYA: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has urged civil servants to support the Kota Madani housing initiative. "Recently, we launched Kota Madani and as usual, the issue has become the target of political attacks. "I truly do not understand why it cannot be supported, especially when it does not place a direct burden on the government. "This is why I ask civil servants to consider this carefully and support the concept, as many are uncomfortable with it, perhaps representing other contractors or other interests," he said in his speech during the monthly assembly. Last week Anwar launched the Kota Madani development project in Precinct 19. It is a mega initiative conceptualised as a smart city that is both people-friendly and environmentally conscious. The RM4 billion project will be developed by Putrajaya Holdings Sdn Bhd (PjH) through a public-private partnership model based on the build, lease, maintain and transfer (BLMT) concept, without involving any government allocation in the initial phase. Kota Madani will feature 10,000 high-density residential quarters capable of housing more than 30,000 residents, vertical schools, and a variety of public amenities. Present were both Deputy Prime Ministers, Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof, as well as Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar. The project, however, had received several criticisms, with opposition questioning its branding and long-term value due to its name reflecting the current administration. Following this, Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Federal Territories) Datuk Seri Dr Zaliha Mustafa said the name Kota Madani chosen for the development of government quarters in Precinct 19 will be retained as the main identity for modern housing and urban development, in line with the current government's aspirations. Meanwhile, on the issue of damaged government quarters which have long plagued civil servants, Anwar said such problems have been addressed seriously by the government.

Addressed to DAP retired supremo Tan Sri Lim Kit Siang and the party's current adviser Lim Guan Eng, the allegedly pro-Gerakan poster shared the video by @daretopostmedia to support her earlier post on X that DAP is turning a blind eye to the grievances of the Chinese at the large. 'The person is clearly angry at DAP – not Gerakan – as he criticised DAP leaders like Kit Siang and Guan Eng for the Anwar government's economic failures,' replied the chatbot developed by Elon Musk's xAI after a commenter wondered whether if the video was an old clip. 'Gerakan, being in the opposition, isn't mentioned. This reflects wider frustration among some Chinese Malaysians with DAP's role in the ruling coalition.'
