Bengaluru stampede: Karnataka Assembly LoP accuses Congress Govt of ignoring police instructions
Addressing a press conference, Ashok alleged that Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar were more focused on their political power struggle than ensuring public safety. 'Had they acted responsibly, innocent students would not have lost their lives,' he said.
Ashok claimed that the police had informed the government about the first fatality by noon, yet the RCB event continued despite eight children already being dead. 'These leaders have hearts of stone,' he charged.
Ashok alleged that the Vidhana Soudha police had written to the Chief Secretary on June 4, warning that the event was hastily organised and security arrangements were inadequate due to staff shortages. The police had even recommended cancelling the event.
'While the Speaker suspended 18 BJP MLAs citing rule violations, the government itself has broken the law,' Ashok said.
Ashok also criticised the Chief Minister for claiming the event was not a government program despite official orders stating otherwise.
Ashok expressed outrage over the suspension of police officers managing traffic and station duties, while no action was taken against government officials.
He demanded a special legislative session to discuss the stampede and called for a High Court-monitored probe. 'Three inquiries have been ordered, but which one is genuine?' he questioned.
Asserting that the government should own up to its failures, Ashok said, 'If they are not guilty, they must provide Rs1 crore compensation to each victim's family.' He also announced that BJP legislators would donate one month's salary to the affected families.
Taking a dig at the Chief Minister, Ashok said, 'Winning trophies is not new, but no other state has seen such negligence for publicity.'
The incident has sparked widespread outrage, with opposition parties and civil society demanding accountability from the government. (ANI)

Transport workers' stir triggers political slugfest between CM and LoP in Karnataka
The Tuesday protest by the public transport employees triggered a slugfest between Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Leader of the Opposition (LoP) R. Ashok, with the latter blaming the former for the situation. The Chief Minister launched a counterattack, blaming Mr. Ashok, who earlier handled the transport portfolio in the erstwhile BJP government, for failing to resolve the problems of transport workers back then. It all began with Mr. Ashok blaming the 'misrule' of the Chief Minister and the State's 'financial bankruptcy' as the reasons for the transport workers going on a strike, and demanding the Chief Minister's resignation. 'Save Karnataka and allow Kannadigas to live in peace by tendering resignation to your post,' Mr. Ashok said in a social media post. This Chief Minister shot back, saying it was when Mr. Ashok was the Transport Minister that the transport staff had gone on a 15-day strike as they were not being paid their salaries fully then. Unlike the Congress government that had implemented a pay hike with retrospective effect, the erstwhile BJP government had resorted to prospective revision for them, he said. He further alleged that the recruitment of staff and purchase of new buses had been stopped during the BJP rule, while a financial burden of ₹5,900 crore towards various expenses, including pending diesel bills, had been passed on to the next government. However, the Congress that came to power had appointed 10,000 staff and included 5,200 new buses to the fleet, he said. He alleged that the BJP dispensation had borrowed ₹2,000 crore to pay for diesel bills and Provident Fund of the staff, but left the loan repayment to the Congress government. Mr. Siddaramaiah urged Mr. Ashok to remember the 'injustice' done by the BJP dispensation to transport workers before pointing an accusing finger at the Congress government.

Yunus announces Bangladesh general elections in February next year
Dhaka [Bangladesh], August 5 (ANI): Bangladesh Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus on Tuesday declared that the next general election will be held in February announced the election timeframe during his address to the nation via state television, BTV and radio to mark the first anniversary of the uprising that ousted former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.'On behalf of the interim government, I will write to the Chief Election Commissioner, requesting that the Election Commission organise a national election in February 2026, before the next Ramadan," Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus said.'We will all begin mental preparation and institutional arrangements from tomorrow to complete all arrangements so that this year's election is memorable in the country's history in terms of joy and celebration, peace and order, voter turnout, and cordiality," he added.'My appeal to political parties is that in your election manifestos, in your promises, pledges, and plans, the youth should not be left out. Women should not be left out. Remember, the youth who have changed Bangladesh have the power to change the world as well," Yunus today, the Bangladesh interim government unveiled formally the 'July declaration", an official declaration of the July Mass Uprising of 2024 in Bangladesh. Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus has announced the declaration, which outlines 26 points of political, constitutional and governance issues in line with the spirit of the student-led uprising that ousted former Prime Minister Sheikh interim government held discussions with political parties that participated in the movement against Sheikh Hasina before finalising the 'July Declaration". Bengaluru metro's yellow line to open on Aug 10: Check stations, timings and fare

He will not only inaugurate the long-awaited Yellow Line Metro operations but also lay the foundation stone for Metro Phase 3 - a project that received Cabinet approval within the first 100 days of his third term,' Surya said in a post on X. The Yellow Line metro project meets the August 15 deadline which had been decided for its completion. Surya said that this was possible due to PM Modi's personal insistence that the metro line be opened for public without delay. Yellow Line Stations, timings and fare The Yellow Line, which covers a distance of 19.15 km from RV Road to Bommasandra, comprises 16 stations on the route and has been built at a cost of ₹5,056.99 crore. The stations on the line, which include key hubs, are – RV Road, Ragi Gudda, Jayadeva Hospital, BTM Layout, Central Silk Board, Bommana Halli, Hongra Sandra, Kudlu Gate, Singa Sandra, Hosa Road, Beratena Agrahara, Electronic City, Infosys Foundation Konappana Agrahar, Huskur Road, Hebba Godi and Bommasandra, according to News18. The trains on the line will run between 5 am and 11 pm, which is the same as the operational hours for the rest of the metro network, according to the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL). The trains will run at 25-minute intervals, with three driverless train sets on the network initially, according to a Deccan Herald report. The maximum fare charged for the metro line will be ₹90, while the minimum fare will stand at ₹10. The daily ridership for the Yellow Line after its launch is expected to be around 25,000 passengers, with an expected daily revenue of ₹10-15 lakh.
