Attritional German GP matches record for fewest finishers in MotoGP era
Since the MotoGP era began in 2002, only the 2011 Australian Grand Prix has ended with as few finishers as Sunday's race at the Sachsenring.

But the 2025 German GP, with its 18 starters, was more attritional in percentage terms than Australia 2011. A mere 14 riders started that race at Phillip Island, after an already slim entry of 17 lost three further competitors. Jorge Lorenzo, Damian Cudlin and Ben Spies all withdrew from the grand prix due to accidents earlier in the weekend.
Before the advent of MotoGP in 2002, however, there were multiple examples of fewer finishers to a race in the premier class of the motorcycle world championship.
Only four riders completed the 500cc West German Grand Prix in 1974. That race, held in April on the Nurburgring Nordschleife, featured only seven starters – and presumably some lengthy silent spells for spectators – as home rider Edmund Czihak took the win for Yamaha.

Most of the eight retirees at this year's German GP fell victim to the Sachsenring's notorious first corner, in a flurry of accidents late in the race. However, Pedro Acosta's low-side crash came at Turn 2 early in the contest – and Miguel Oliveira also crashed elsewhere on the track.

Among the mitigating circumstances for today's low number of finishers was the fact that Joan Mir didn't make a riding mistake of his own on his way to the Turn 1 gravel trap. Rather, he was collected by the Trackhouse Aprilia of Ai Ogura, making it a case of two falls from one error.

Another factor was that this race featured the lowest number of starters in 2025. While the regular number of contenders in a MotoGP race this year stands at 22, there were four absentees by the time Sunday came around in Germany.
Somkiat Chantra (training accident) and Enea Bastianini (appendicitis) withdrew before the weekend. Then, on a wet Saturday, both Maverick Vinales and Franco Morbidelli were injured in accidents and were forced to pull out of the rest of the event.

Golfer Jon Rahm unleashes on fan at The Open Championship, claims whistling created distraction during drive
Jon Rahm's emotions ran high during the first round at The Open Championship. The Spaniard had a rough moment when he played the par-4 10th hole at the Royal Portrush Golf Club in Northern Ireland on Thursday. Rahm's shot ended up in the rough. The two-time major championship winner was visibly upset as he put his hands in the air before turning toward the gallery and scolding a fan. Rahm claimed at least one spectator made a distracting noise as he was attempting his backswing. "Really? Whistling? Right, great time," Rahm said. "Right on my backswing. Very smart, whoever it was." It was not clear whether cameras for the television broadcast picked up audio of the alleged whistling noise. Rahm later downplayed the tense exchange he had with the spectator, chalking up his emotional reaction to the "bad timing" of the noise in question. "I mean, if I were to paint a picture, you have the hardest tee shot on the course, raining, into the wind off the left, it's enough," Rahm told the assembled media. "I know they're not doing it on purpose. It just seemed like somebody trying to get a hold of someone for whatever it is. It was bad timing." Rahm did admit that he had "a bad swing." "I think I just used the moment to let out any tension I had in me. Really that's not — it is what it is. To be honest, it probably didn't affect as much as I made it sound like. It was a bad swing as well. Just a difficult hole. "I mean, it's frustrating, but it is what it is. It's an everyday thing in golf," Rahm concluded. The 30-year-old entered the final major tournament of the season off the heels of a second-place finish at LIV Golf's event in Spain. Rahm had his best performance at The Open in 2023 when he finished in a tie for the runner-up spot. He won the U.S. Open in 2021 and the Masters tournament in 2023. Lakers Fans Told 'Don't Panic' If Luka Doesn't Sign Extension This Summer
Lakers Fans Told 'Don't Panic' If Luka Doesn't Sign Extension This Summer originally appeared on Fadeaway World. Despite early hopes that a new deal would be finalized this summer, Luka Doncic's contract extension with the Lakers may not come until September. According to ESPN insider Brian Windhorst, there are multiple reasons behind the delay—including Doncic's commitment to Slovenia's national team—and Lakers fans have been advised not to panic if the deal doesn't get done right away. "I would not expect it to happen that early," said Windhorst on NBA Today. "There are various reasons why the timeline would be pushed to September. Don't react negatively, Lakers fans, if you don't see a deal right away, he's playing for the Slovenian national team. Also, it behooves him to take a three-year contract extension. The Lakers can offer 4 and $230, but it makes sense that it would take a three-year extension for long-term reasons. But anything that he would sign would be terrific for the Lakers, they're going to obviously make that their offseason priority.' Lakers fans may still be unfamiliar with Luka's offseason habits, but anyone who followed him in Dallas will tell you this is entirely in character. Typically, when he prepares to suit up for Eurobasket, he puts his NBA business on hold, and that includes any and all extension talks. 'He won the Eurobasket for Slovenia earlier in his career, probably the greatest moment of his career. They play six exhibition games leading up to the start on August 27th. And they could go as late as September 14th, which means he may not be back in the US until late September. McMan will tell you that, in the past, when he's been playing for the national team, he has not done NBA business, including NBA contracts. So he could certainly pledge his intention to sign with the Lakers, but do not freak out if you do not hear from Luka contractually until September.' It hasn't even been a full year since Luka joined the Lakers, but the team is eager to lock in his commitment for the next phase of his career. With his current contract set to expire in 2027 ($48.9 million player option), Doncic could be up for free agency as early as next summer if he doesn't agree to an extension soon. While Lakers fans are expecting Doncic to sign a contract before the start of next season, he's not in any rush to accept a deal, even for the maximum amount of $230 million over four years. Luka is reportedly considering a three-year deal, but any agreement would be a huge win for the Lakers, especially after giving up their championship big man, Anthony Davis, to acquire him in February. The important thing for the Lakers is that Luka clearly still wants to stay, even if he doesn't prove it by signing an extension as soon as he can. In this case, the delay is not a sign of tension, just practical timing. If played correctly, it can sweeten the position of both the Lakers and Doncic for the foreseeable future. Lakers fans may need to wait a bit longer to see the official ink dry, but there's no reason to panic. Luka Doncic remains committed to both his country and his new NBA home, and all signs indicate that a contract extension is coming—it just might not happen until the summer's spotlight dims and Slovenia wraps its Olympic story was originally reported by Fadeaway World on Jul 15, 2025, where it first appeared.

Second entertainer with dwarfism releases statement on Lamine Yamal birthday party
Barcelona star Lamine Yamal has been in the crosshairs of the Spanish media this week, following his 18th birthday party on Saturday night. Legal action against the Spain international has been announced due to some of the entertainment present at his party. A number of top-name celebrities and musicians were present, as were the majority of the Barcelona squad during the early proceedings of the celebrations. However the presence of four entertainers with dwarfism has caused a media storm in Spain, with the Association of Achondroplasia and Other Skeletal Dysplasias with Dwarfism (ADEE) announcing legal action against Lamine Yamal. In Spain, any spectacle that is degrading or mocking towards people with a 'disability' is illegal. President of Sports Ministry speaks on incident The head of the High Council for Sport (CSD) Jose Manuel Rodriguez Uribes has now given his view on the matter to Marca. He encouraged people not to overreact, while also confirming the government were investigating the matter. Image via Lamine Yamal / IG 'The message that athletes project must always be positive, we repeat this constantly. Sport is linked to values and respect. I think we must continue working in that direction.' 'It's true that the Ministry of Social Rights has taken an initiative related to the defense of fundamental rights and the protection of vulnerable groups. I think that makes perfect sense. In the end, freedom must always be well reconciled with respect for others, and especially for people in particularly vulnerable situations or groups in particularly vulnerable situations. I think the Government has been attentive to that.' Statement from entertainer at party On Tuesday, one of the entertainers present spoke on Catalan radio anonymously, defending their presence at the party, and noting that there was no lack of respect shown towards them. Now Juan Alberto Duaso and 'Miggie Beats' have released a statement on the incident on Instagram, declaring that the ADEE does not represent their views. 'The ADEE Association does not represent us or speak on our behalf. As adults with achondroplasia, commonly known as dwarfism, we have our own voice, our own judgment, and full capacity to make decisions about our personal and professional lives. We are not part of this association, nor have we been consulted or asked for our opinions before making public accusations that directly affect us.' 'We are people, fully capable of making independent decisions about our lives. Each of us makes decisions freely and manages the essential aspects of our daily lives and future. We strongly reject any suggestion that we have been ridiculed or misused, as has been publicly claimed without evidence. Those who point fingers at us without knowing us are dehumanizing us and stripping us of our autonomy.' 'We are people, fully capable of making independent decisions about our lives. Each of us makes decisions freely and manages the essential aspects of our daily lives and future. We strongly reject any suggestion that we have been ridiculed or misused, as has been publicly claimed without evidence. Those who point fingers at us without knowing us are dehumanizing us and stripping us of our autonomy.' 'For legal reasons of confidentiality for all those registered for the event, we cannot comment on specific details of the event, but we can and must defend our honor and professionalism in the face of public campaigns that cast doubt on our work and personal dignity. We urge ADEE and any other entity to carry out their work responsibly, without generalizing, without speaking on behalf of those who have not been heard, and without becoming a tool for discourse unrelated to our lived reality. We reserve the right to take legal action if false information that undermines our reputation and public image continues to be disseminated.' 'And we want to say it loud and clear: We are deeply proud to have been invited to this event. It was a professional and humane experience in which we were treated with respect.' Image via Lamine Yamal / IG Fallout from the incident In addition to the ADEE announcing legal action, President of the organisation Carolina Puente was highly critical of the behaviour. Lamine Yamal and Barcelona are yet to comment on the incident, and so far there has been not any footage to come out of the event beyond what Lamine Yamal has released himself on Instagram.
