A lottery player 'lost his breath for a second' when he scratched his Lots of Cash ticket.
It was a $50,000 winner, and 'the moment immediately brought back memories' from another big lottery windfall years earlier, Maryland Lottery officials said in a July 17 news release.
The man, from St. Mary's County, previously won $100,000, lottery officials said.
'At the time, I never thought I'd win another top prize,' he told lottery officials. 'Years later, I'm back again.'
The man bought his most recent top-prize ticket at a gas station in Clements, according to lottery officials.
He first grabbed some scratch-offs for $1 each, winning $20.
He put $15 toward gas and bought the $5 Lots of Cash ticket with the rest, according to lottery officials.
He intends to pay bills and help out loved ones with winnings, lottery officials said.
And he has no plans to quit on the lottery.
'I'll definitely keep playing,' he said, per the release. 'Maybe lightning will strike a third time.'
Clements is about an 85-mile drive south from Baltimore.

Lottery player worried about retirement — then won big. ‘Happiness flooded in'

An office worker was worried about her approaching retirement — and then she won $50,000 in the lottery. Now, 'I'm feeling much better about things,' she told Maryland Lottery officials, according to a July 23 news release. The woman, from Queen Anne's County, bought her winning Pick 5 ticket for the July 18 midday drawing at a gas station in Gaithersburg, lottery officials said. She usually goes for scratch-off tickets, and she did grab a couple of those. But, 'every once in a while, I try something different,' she told lottery officials, so she threw the Pick 5 in as well. When she learned she'd won, 'I refused to believe it,' she said, per the release. 'I knew what I was seeing. I knew what my Lottery app was telling me. I just wouldn't let myself accept that it had happened.' But, eventually, 'the happiness flooded in,' she told lottery officials. Gaithersburg is about a 45-mile drive southwest from Baltimore.

Man wins big prize in ‘most complex' Maryland lottery game. ‘Beginner's luck'

A Maryland man won a big prize during his first time playing what lottery officials described as the 'most complex game.' The Prince George's County man won a top prize of $61,155.30 on July 3 in the Racetrax game — a game that doesn't see a lot of first-time winners due to how intricate it is, Maryland Lottery officials said in a July 17 news release. 'That was beginner's luck,' the man told lottery officials when he claimed his prize. When he told his wife about his win, she didn't believe him and even dismissed it, he told the lottery. Then, he showed her the winning ticket and she gave him a 'big old hug,' he said, according to the lottery. The couple told lottery officials they may use their winnings on a play set for their grandchildren. He bought the winning ticket at a 7-Eleven in Bowie, about a 20-mile drive northeast from Washington, D.C.
