PVR sues Maddock Films for Rs 60 crore after cancellation of Bhool Chuk Maaf's theatrical release: report
PVR CEO Kamal Gianchandani told News9Live that the abrupt decision has caused them substantial financial losses. Trade expert Komal Nahta took to his X account and a part of his tweet read, 'According to PVR-Inox, Maddock suddenly cancelled the film's release (on 9th May) from cinemas on account of poor advance booking.'
Maddock Films issued a statement on May 8 explaining the reason behind their decision to move the film's release to an OTT platform. 'In light of recent events and the heightened security drills across the nation, we at Maddock Films and Amazon MGM Studios have decided to bring our family entertainer, Bhool Chuk Maaf, directly to your homes on May 16–only on Prime Video, worldwide. While we were eagerly looking forward to celebrating this film with you in theatres, the spirit of the nation comes first. Jai Hind,' they said.

Who is plotting to grab property of Karisma's Kapoor's ex-husband Sunjay Kapur? Mother Rani Kapur's explosive letter shocks everyone, she demands...
(File) In a new twist in the row over the control of Sona Comstar following the demise of its Chairman Sunjay Kapur, the ex-husband of popular actor Karisma Kapoor, his mother, Rani Kapur, has written a letter to the company's board of directors, demanding the postponement of its Annual General Meeting (AGM) scheduled for July 25. What Rani Kapur wrote in her letter? In her letter, Rani Kapur, the wife of Sona Comstar founder Surinder Kapur, said she strongly opposes the holding of AGM amid the 'sudden and suspicious' death of her son Sunjay Kapur. Rani claimed that her son died under 'suspicious' circumstances, and regretted that the company was planning to hold the meeting while the family was still in deep mourning. Rani Kapur also alleged that she was 'forced' to sign several unknown documents in her state of grief, and the details of those have not been shared with her yet. 'I was completely helpless mentally and emotionally after the death of my son, but I was forced to sign documents behind closed doors. I repeatedly asked for copies of those documents, but till date I have not been given anything.' She further alleged that she has been denied access to her bank accounts, and forced to 'depend on a select few people for my livelihood'. The grieving mother also claimed that following Sunjay Kapur's death, 'some people' were attempting to wrest control of the Kapur family's legacy in their hour of mourning, She revealed that several proposals are being voted on in the AGM, including the proposal to appoint a representative of the Kapur family, but she has not been informed about these proposals. Who's the heir to Sona Comstar after Sunjay's death? In her letter, Rani Kapur stressed that after her son's demise, she was now the sole heir of her husband and Sona Comstar founder, Surinder Kapur, and the majority shareholder in the Sona Group, the parent company of the auto parts manufacturer, adding that she has not allowed anyone to represent her in the company on her behalf. 'If the board and shareholders ignore this letter, which I am writing not only as a grieving mother but also as the head of the Kapur family and the largest shareholder of the company, it will be a clear example of mismanagement and betrayal by the company,' she stated. Meanwhile, Sona Comstar has reportedly begun the AGM and Priya Sachdev, Sunjay Kapur's second wife, is expected to attend. How did Sunjay Kapur die? Sunjay Kapur, the ex-husband of famous Bollywood actress Karisma Kapoor, died of a heart attack while playing a polo match in the United Kingdom on June 12. At first, it was believed that the 53-year-old had died due to a sudden heart attack, but later reports emerged that he had reportedly swallowed a bee by accident, and its sting caused an allergic reaction, triggering a cardiac arrest that led to his demise. Kapur has left behind a vast business empire valued at staggering $4.7 billion (about Rs 31,000 crore) business empire. However, neither Karisma Kapoor, nor any of any of Kapur's ex-wives, sisters, or children inherited the fortune.

Sukesh Chandrashekar 'Can't Wait To Hold' Jacqueline, Promises Flats Worth Rs 1 Crore To 10 Fans
Sukesh also mentioned that Jacqueline Fernandez chooses to do songs that relate to their 'love story'. Alleged conman Sukesh Chandrashekar has written yet another letter to Bollywood actress Jacqueline Fernandez from jail. In his latest declaration of love, Sukesh wrote to his 'baby girl", Jacqueline, that her new song, Dum Dum, is reminiscent of their 'love story". He thanked Jacqueline for continuously choosing projects which highlight their 'love", and in a bid to make her song a success, Sukesh has urged the actress's fans to indulge in a special task. In the new letter, exclusively obtained by News18 Showsha, Sukesh wrote, 'Even, being in the worst place in the world, my only strength, that has kept me going is 'you'….. There are many reasons when I define 'You', that's a long list, but that list's top 1 reason is 'you' never failing, surprising me and stealing my heart over and over again." Sukesh then mentioned the Dum Dum song and wrote, 'Knowingly, unknowingly, once again every line and the visual of the song 'Dum Dum' relates to 'Us', our love, and our current situation indirectly. Especially the line 'Tere Bina Nikle Hai Dum Dum', 'Saansen Hai Seene Mein Kam Kam', this so means us baby, our current situation vibe." Sukesh mentioned that while Jacqueline has no dearth of projects, she 'specifically" chooses to sign songs which 'indirectly relate" to their 'love story". Sukesh said that this 'speaks words a zillion times, the love you have for me". He added, 'As usual, the world shall call me crazy for this, but a section of the world that knows the meaning of love will understand and agree. Rest, I don't care." To prove his love for the actress, Sukesh is organising a lucky draw for her fans. Sukesh has urged the actress's fans to make Dum Dum the most viewed song of 2025. In 90 days from now, a lucky draw will be conducted in which 10 fans stand a chance to win fully-furnished 2 BHK apartments worth Rs 1 crore in any Indian city of their choosing. The alleged conman wrote, 'All you guys have to do is to make sure 'Dum Dum' song is a blockbuster and the most watched song in the next 90 Days. Ask all your friends and family to watch and comment Dum Dum on its official channel or Jackie's Page. Even Reels posted on Jackie's Insta page on Dum Dum will be counted/entitled for this Lucky Draw." Sukesh then mentioned how he longs to see Jacqueline upon his release from jail. 'Baby, you are my queen, the most beautiful woman in the world. I would do anything to make you feel happy, you know that. Can't wait to hold you in my arms. Just like in the song, your king is coming for you, I am coming to win my love back… Hardly a matter of a few more days," he wrote. He mentioned that he is counting the days till Jacqueline's birthday and cannot wait to see her. Sukesh wrote that he cannot live a second without Jacqueline, and he loves her like crazy. Sukesh Chandrashekhar, who is currently lodged in Delhi's Mandoli jail in connection with the Rs 200 crore extortion case, was rumoured to be in a relationship with Jacqueline. While the actress has repeatedly denied any kind of romantic relationship with Sukesh, she is an accused in the case and has also been questioned by the Enforcement Directorate multiple times. In February 2024, Jacqueline Fernandes also accused Sukesh of using the media as a tool to defame her image. She had also alleged harassment by him and had asked the court to file a case against him. However, the actress withdrew her plea later. First Published: July 25, 2025, 16:16 IST Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. Please keep discussions respectful and constructive. In Just Seven Days, Ahaan Panday And Aneet Padda's Saiyaara Becomes The Surprise Success Story Of 2025
New Delhi: What do you get when you combine a debutant hero, a dreamy love story and a filmmaker who hasn't dabbled in box office records in a while? Apparently, a full-blown blockbuster. When Saiyaara released on July 18, not many outside the industry knew what to expect. Ahaan Panday, stepping into the limelight for the first time, and Aneet Padda, still early in her career, were not exactly household names. Yet, within days, theatres across India began buzzing with an energy rarely seen for romantic dramas anymore, especially those without an established superstar on the poster. And now, barely a week into its run, Saiyaara is not just being watched, it's being witnessed. It's the kind of theatrical phenomenon fans can call their own, a film that's making them weep, cheer and, more importantly, return to theatres in numbers that even the biggest franchises haven't managed this year. The Romance That Set The Box Office On Fire Directed by Mohit Suri and backed by Yash Raj Films, Saiyaara has become one of the most exhilarating success stories of 2025. Right from Day 1, the film signalled a seismic shift in audience sentiment. With an impressive Rs 21 crore opening in India, the romantic drama set a new benchmark for debutant-led films, easily surpassing the previous record held by Dhadak (Rs 8.76 crore). But it didn't stop there. The opening weekend alone brought in approximately Rs 84.5 crore nett, earning it a spot in the Top 5 opening weekends of the year. The fact that a romantic film, without any marquee stars, crossed the Rs 100 crore mark in India within the opening weekend is no small feat. It now officially holds the record for the highest opening weekend for a Hindi romantic film, ahead of the likes of Kabir Singh, Tu Jhoothi Main Makkar, Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani and T eri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya. These weren't just overtaken; they were outpaced by a film that didn't even crack the top three on most trade prediction lists. Another feather in Saiyaara's cap is how efficiently it has been distributed. Despite having just 8,000 screenings across India, less than half the number some commercial films receive, it managed to sell nearly 10 lakh tickets on Day 1 alone. Advance bookings were equally robust, raking in Rs 9.39 crore before release. In major chains like PVR INOX and Cinepolis, tickets flew off the counters, with many shows running housefull through the weekend. One Of The Best Openings Of The Year What makes Saiyaara's journey even more astonishing is the consistency it has shown throughout the week. After a spectacular opening weekend, the film continued its march with daily collections hovering in the Rs 20-25 crore range. On Day 7, even as it dipped slightly to Rs 18.75 crore, it still outperformed most releases from this year, including star-led vehicles like Kesari Chapter 2 and Metro In Dino. Its total India nett collection for the first week stands at Rs 172.5 crore. Occupancy rates reflected this unrelenting momentum. Morning shows opened at 19.74%, climbing steadily through the day and peaking at over 40% during night shows. Second-Highest Week 1 Collection Of 2025 By the end of its first week, Saiyaara comfortably secured its spot as the second-highest opening week grosser of 2025, just behind the historical action drama Chhaava, which earned approximately Rs 219.25 crore in its first seven days. Saiyaara, with its Rs 172.5 crore nett, stands ahead of high-budget, star-studded releases like Housefull 5 (Rs 127.25 crore), Sikandar (Rs 115 crore) and Sky Force (Rs 99.7 crore). Notably, it also beat the week-one collection of Raid 2, starring Ajay Devgn, which had reached around Rs 95.75 crore and Aamir Khan's Sitaare Zameen Par (Rs 88.46 crore). Even overseas, Saiyaara is performing exceptionally well. Its global box office total crossed Rs 248 crore by the end of the first week, Rs 205 crore gross from India and an additional Rs 43.25 crore from international markets. Ahaan Panday's Debut Is Anything But Quiet In terms of pure star-making moments, few launches in recent memory have had the kind of impact that Ahaan Panday's debut is having. Within a week, trade insiders are already calling this the most successful male debut since Hrithik Roshan in Kaho Naa... Pyaar Hai. Ahaan's first film has already outgrossed the debut films of Alia Bhatt, Varun Dhawan and Sidharth Malhotra (Student of the Year) and even his cousin Ananya Panday (Student of the Year 2). Romance Isn't Dead, It's Just Called Saiyaara If 2025 marks the revival of Bollywood romance, Saiyaara is its undisputed flag-bearer. Earlier this year, re-releases of cult hits like Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani and Sanam Teri Kasam drew surprising crowds. But Saiyaara has gone several steps further; it didn't rely on nostalgia, it created its own legacy in real-time. The Bottom Line With Rs 172.5 crore in India nett and Rs 248 crore worldwide in just 7 days, Saiyaara currently stands at No. 2 on the list of highest first-week grossers of 2025 and is well on its way to joining the Rs 300 crore club, if current trends hold. In a year packed with sequels, spy universes and testosterone-fuelled actioners, Saiyaara has proved that a simple, soulful love story with the right packaging and performances can still reign supreme. And somewhere, amid all the data and broken records, is a wide-eyed debutant who just rewrote the rules of the game.
