Wamiqa Gabbi on facing rejections after her breakthrough in Jubilee: You then get introduced to other kind of politics

Jun 27, 2025 09:10 AM IST Wamiqa Gabbi is currently enjoying the success of her recent release Bhool Chuk Maaf, and the actor insists it has come to her after a long wait. Her breakthrough role came in the 2023 web series Jubilee, but she admits that things didn't get as smooth for her post it as one would expect it to be. Wamiqa Gabbi(Photo: Instagram) Wamiqa Gabbi asserts that the show's success helped build her confidence, 'but I did go through a lot of challenges even after that'. She shares, 'I was getting a few offers, but then I was getting rejected too. It's not like things became easy for me after Jubilee, it was nothing like that. It took me a lot of time to do get out of all the rejections and understand why it was happening.' The actor adds, 'That's when you get introduced to the other things happening in the industry, the other kind of politics. You understand that there are not one or two reasons [behind the rejections]. There are layers of things that are happening. You have to break all of them in order to make yourself visible to everybody. Then you're just waiting for a good opportunity to prove yourself again.' Being an outsider also plays a part in how it affects an artiste mentally, as Wamiqa says, 'As an outsider, my next film is so much dependent on what I did in my last one. You know that you might or might not get a second chance. So, your energy is put into just doing your best in whatever that you're doing right now. And you are just waiting for another chance to just prove it again. It's a tough journey.' But Wamiqa chooses to focus on the positives: 'It is about what you absorb from life, how do you take your challenges, and what is it that you are learning from your experiences. Are the negatives really bothering you or are you thankful about the positive impact that it's had. I kind of looked at both of it, and slowly I can feel that it has changed me for good. The whole point is to do what you're supposed to do and be nice,' she ends.

Wamiqa Gabbi shuts down rivalry talks in the industry: 'I wish we all rise together...'

Admired for her powerful on-screen persona and remarkable range as an actor, Wamiqa Gabbi continues to make a name for herself in the entertainment industry. The actress talked candidly about her approach to industry collaboration and personal development. Wamiqa thinks that actors with similar career paths should support one another and remain focused on her own development as an artist rather than seeing them as competitors. Wamiqa discussed her realistic and sympathetic perspective on competition and success in an interview with Instant Bollywood. "So you know for an artist, the most important thing is to empathize and it's very important," she said, reflecting on her values as a performer. "What do I need to feel threatened by somebody who I feel has kind of a similar journey as mine? I wish that we all rise together." Her mature statement, which has become a defining characteristic of her career in the film and OTT industries, is insightful. Wamiqa's white, textured top, which was probably made of knit or soft ribbed fabric, gave her appearance a cozy yet modern edge in the video. Her hair was neatly arranged in a loose ponytail with soft layers and strands that framed her face. A bow was added for a delicate, feminine touch. She emphasized her natural beauty with subtle elegance by wearing fresh, minimal makeup. Playing one of Geet's cousins in the blink-and-you-miss-it role in Jab We Met marked the beginning of Wamiqa's career. Even though the role was brief, the aspiring actor gained invaluable experience from watching director Imtiaz Ali and the cast closely and eagerly taking part in the filmmaking process. Her journey wasn't always easy. Wamiqa has been open about experiencing a period of withdrawal from her work, even considering giving up the field. In '83, she made the decision to accept a role that gave her a fresh perspective and a renewed dedication to her art. Wamiqa Gabbi is soaking up praise today for her role opposite RajKummar Rao in the recently released comedy-drama Bhool Chuk Maaf, which is another milestone in her career. She has a ton of exciting projects planned for the future. She will soon appear on screen alongside Akshay Kumar in Priyadarshan's upcoming horror-comedy Bhoot Bangla. The movie, which also stars Tabu and Paresh Rawal, will be released in theaters in April 2026. Wamiqa also appears in the romantic drama Dil Ka Darwaaza Khol Na Darling, which stars Siddhant Chaturvedi and seasoned actor Jaya Bachchan.

Sitaare Zameen Par box office collection day 5: Aamir Khan's film surpasses Bhool Chuk Maaf and hits Rs 75 crore; no-streaming stand pays off

Aamir Khan's firm stand to not release his new film, RS Prasanna's coming-of-age sports comedy Sitaare Zameen Par, on streaming has paid off. The actor, who hasn't sold the streaming rights of the film to any platform yet, claimed that he would decide on its home video release only after it finishes its theatrical run. He added the film wouldn't come on a streaming platform at least until a year. Sitaare Zameen Par continues to hold strong at the domestic box office even during weekdays. On Tuesday, its fifth day since release on June 20, it earned Rs 8.5 crore, which is as much as how much it earned on Monday. While that saw a massive drop from its Sunday or Saturday earnings of Rs 27.25 crore and Rs 20.2 crore respectively, the film passed the Monday test because the figure that day was only slightly lower than that of its opening day's Rs 10.7 crore. Now, as per industry tracker Sacnilk, the current domestic box office collection of Sitaare Zameen Par stands at Rs 75.15 crore. Two days after it crossed the Rs 50 crore milestone in India, the film has now breached the Rs 75 crore mark too. Given its current trajectory, it should enter the Rs 100 crore club this weekend, unless its pace is thwarted majorly by the new competitor on Friday. This Friday, on June 27, Vishal Furia's mythological horror film Maa will be released in cinemas. Starring Kajol and co-produced by Ajay Devgn, it comes from the world of Vikas Bahl's hit Shaitaan from last year, which earned Rs 147.97 crore at the domestic box office. Sitaare Zameen Par has also surpassed the lifetime domestic box office collection of Karan Sharma's romantic comedy Bhool Chuk Maaf, starring Rajkummar Rao and Wamiqa Gabbi. It's an interesting comparison because producer Dinesh Vijan of Maddock Films opted for a polar opposite strategy than Aamir to release his film. On the eve of its initial theatrical release, Vijan announced that Bhool Chuk Maaf would now skip the cinemas and premiere directly on Prime Video India the following week. After leading multiplex chain PVR INOX sued Maddock Films, it was agreed that the film would first release in cinemas, but that would be followed by its streaming release in just two weeks. He even claimed that his last year's production, Kiran Rao's coming-of-age film Laapataa Ladies, would've earned Rs 100 crore if the audience didn't know it's dropping on Netflix soon. The film, featuring mostly newcomers, earned only Rs 20 crore at the domestic box office.
