Surprise tactic pays off for UAE in Women's T20WC Qualifier
The move paid off later in the game, when Esha Oza's side bowled Qatar out for merely 29, thus securing a mammoth win and a heavy net run rate advantage.
The UAE batted first and racked up quick runs on the back of inspiring performances from Oza (113 from 55 balls with 19 boundaries including five sixes) and Theertha Satish (74 off 42 with 11 fours).
However, with rain looming, UAE management - led by experieced all-rounder and coach Ahmed Raza - decided at the 16-over mark that they had more than enough runs to play with.

Faheem Ashraf heroics in vain as Bangladesh clinch T20 series win after Pakistan batting fails again
Pakistan batters failed to come to terms with the slow nature of surfaces in Bangladesh once again as the Tigers successfully defended a target of 134 to take an unassailable 2-0 lead in the T20 series in Mirpur on Tuesday. Bangladesh batters struggled on a two-paced pitch early on but were powered by a fighting fifty from Jaker Ali (55) and Mahedi Hasan (33). They were the only batters to reach double figures as the hosts battled their way to 133. However, the total proved enough against a batting line-up out of form. Pakistan lost their entire top order in the powerplay as Bangladesh seamers got the ball to move around corners. Pacers Shoriful Islam (3-17) Tanzim Hasan (2-23) decimated Pakistan's line-up, reducing them to 30-6 inside 10 overs. However, the tourists' lower order put up a fight. All-rounder Faheem Ashraf (51 from 32 balls) received excellent support from bowlers Abbas Afridi (19) and Ahmed Daniyal (17) as he took the team closer to the target. Pakistan had battled their way to 106-8 with two overs to go and 28 runs to get. Ashraf and Daniyal went after leg-spinner Rishad Hossain, hitting him for two fours and a six. But Ashraf continued to attack the spinner, losing his stumps on the final ball of the penultimate over to end a heroic innings. Left-arm seamer Mustafizur Rahman then got the defiant Daniyal caught in the deep as Bangladesh eked out an eight-run win after restricting Pakistan to 125. Earlier, fast bowlers Salman Mirza and debutant Daniyal grabbed two wickets apiece to restrict Bangladesh to 133. Mirza finished with 2-17 and Daniyal took 2-23 after Pakistan won the toss and sent Bangladesh into bat. Jaker hit a fiery 48-ball 55 for his third T20I fifty, smashing five sixes and a boundary before holing out off the final delivery of the 20th over. Fast bowler Afridi also grabbed 2-37. Bangladesh had lost four wickets by sixth over for 28 before Jaker and Mahedi revived the innings with a 53-run stand for the fifth wicket. Mahedi scored a 25-ball 33 with two sixes and as many boundaries. After the series defeat, Pakistan captain Salman Agha said his young team will learn from their mistakes. "The way we started bowling in the power play, we could have given like 10 fewer runs, but that's the way cricket goes," Agha said. "But 130 was what we thought we had under control. But the way we batted in the power play, I think that needs to be improved. "We don't want to give up no matter what situation we are in. We always think we can win the game. The way we played after, like, 15-5, I think, is outstanding. This is the kind of belief I want from my team." It was Bangladesh's first-ever series in the format against Pakistan. The tourists were dismissed for 110 in the first match, which the hosts won by seven wickets.

Qatar confirms talks over hosting 2036 Olympic Games
The Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC) said on Tuesday it was taking part in discussions with the International Olympic Committee (IOC) over the election process for the host city of the 2036 Olympic and Paralympic Games. The country, which hosted Fifa World Cup in 2022 and the Asian Cup in 2024, is the latest to join the race to stage the 2036 Games after confirmed bids from Indonesia, Turkey, India and Chile. Other Asian countries considering a bid include Saudi Arabia and South Korea. Egypt, Hungary, Italy, Germany, Denmark and Canada have also shown interest. "We currently have 95% of the required sports infrastructure in place to host the Games, and we have a comprehensive national plan to ensure 100% readiness of all facilities," Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al-Thani, the president of QOC, told the state-run Qatar News Agency. "This plan is rooted in a long-term vision aimed at building a socially, economically, and environmentally sustainable legacy." Qatar's capital Doha is set to host the Asian Games in 2030, having staged the event in 2006. A successful bid would make Qatar the first country in the Middle East to host the Olympics amid the region's growing influence over major sporting events. Saudi Arabia is set to hold the Fifa World Cup in 2034.

From K-Drama to Clubhouse: How The Open sparked a Korean superstar's golf passion
It all started with a quiet Sunday at The Open Championship, but for South Korean superstar Song Joong-ki, it was the beginning of something much bigger. Known across the Middle East thanks to hit dramas like Descendants of the Sun and the global Korean Wave, which has captured hearts here alongside K-Pop sensations and Korean cultural hits like Squid Game, Song's journey into golf is inspiring new fans across the UAE and Arab world. What began on a day as a spectator quickly turned into a passion. Today, Song isn't just a fan, he's The R&A's first Asian Global Ambassador, using his star power alongside sports icons like NBA's Stephen Curry to grow golf across Asia and beyond. Song confessed that he didn't know much about The R&A at first. 'I asked a friend who knows golf well, and they told me to say yes without hesitation. My wife and father-in-law were proud that I joined The R&A,' he said. Song is married to Katy Louise Saunders, a British citizen and former actress and model. With golf booming in the UAE, a melting pot where Korean expats, mingle with local enthusiasts, Song's story connects with this vibrant scene, showing how golf transcends cultures and unites diverse communities, just like K-Dramas and pop culture from the dynamic East Asian powerhouse. Song's path from national-level short-track speed skater to global actor to golf advocate reflects a spirit of resilience and passion admired by fans in the Middle East. He's also actively supporting junior golf initiatives, making the game accessible to all, a message that resonates in the UAE's growing golf ecosystem. For golf fans who already cheer for Korean players, Song Joong-ki's ambassadorial role brings a fresh connection between entertainment, sport, and regional enthusiasm. One Sunday at The Open changed everything. Now, Song is helping reshape golf for a new generation, including those in the Arab world who are discovering the joy of the game, whether through a TV drama or a first swing on the fairway.
