Urgent product recall of protein pot over risk of salmonella contamination
The supermarket is recalling its Waitrose and Partners Egg and Spinach Protein Pot with best before dates of July 31 and August 1.
Waitrose has warned anyone who has purchased the product not to eat it, and says they should return it to their local branch for a refund.
A statement by the Food Standards Agency said: 'Point of sale notices will be displayed in stores that are selling this product.
'These notices explain to customers why the product is being recalled and tell them what to do if they have bought the product.
'If you have bought the product do not eat it. Instead, return it to the store from where it was bought for a full refund.
'For further information, please contact Waitrose Customer Care.'
Waitrose says salmonella, a type of bacteria which can cause fevers, diarrhoea and stomach cramps, could be present in the affected product. More Trending
The FSA warns that anyone experiencing these symptoms should stay away from work, school, or nursery until they stop having symptoms for at least 48 hours, to avoid passing it on to others.
The supermarket apologised for any inconvenience caused and 'that it has been necessary to recall this product'.
Last week, Tesco was forced to recall another product over fears they could contain salmonella, while one person has died in Ireland following a listeria outbreak linked to141 different types of microwave meals.
And earlier this month a trendy chocolate bar was recalled because it does not declare it contains peanuts, causing a potentially deadly allergy risk.

Lidl issues 'do not eat' warning and urges customers to return popular teatime meal
The Food Standards Agency has issued a warning to those who have recently purchased the Lidl product Lidl has withdrawn a popular dinner item from its shelves and issued an urgent "do not eat" alert. The Food Standards Agency (FSA) has announced that Lidl is pulling its Red Hen 4 Tempura Chicken Steaks. The FSA discovered the product contains milk, which isn't properly highlighted in bold on the packaging. This poses a serious health risk for anyone with a milk allergy or intolerance to dairy products. People with such conditions have been warned not to consume the item. Symptoms of lactose intolerance can start a few minutes, or a few hours, after having food or drink containing lactose, according to the NHS. Common symptoms include tummy pain or discomfort, bloating, farting, diarrhoea or constipation, feeling sick or being sick, and longer lasting symptoms like a rash, headaches, joint pain, feeling tired, and trouble concentrating. The recalled product comes in 380g packs and affects all stock with best before dates of: 11 December 2026, 16 December 2026, 22 December 2026, 30 December 2026 and 16 January 2027. The FSA stated: "Lidl is recalling the above product from customers and has been advised to contact the relevant allergy support organisations, which will tell their members about the recall. "The company has also issued a point-of-sale notice to its customers. These notices explain to customers why the product is being recalled and tell them what to do if they have bought the product." The item was swiped on Tuesday, July 29 as a "precautionary measure".
